FLASHBACK BEGINS

" Can I come in? " Emma asks, standing at the doorstep.

I nod.

"Is something bothering you? " I ask when I see her fidgeting with her hands.

" No..I just wanted to talk. " She states.

I grab her hand and make her sit on the armchair.

" Lucas...why are you helping me? " She asks.

" Emma, I told you already. I have no hidden motive. Are you bothered about that? " I ask.

She shakes her head no.

" It's just. I haven't agreed to marry you yet you take care of me and Tim and the company too when you are getting nothing in return. "

" I always thought you were evil and selfish but your actions are proving otherwise. " She says.

" I am selfish and I rarely care about people. But I do care about you Emma and I don't want to be selfish with you. " I reply honestly.

" What if I say I'm ready to marry you? " She asks, putting a smile on my face but then it soon fades away.

" Are you saying that because I'm being nice to you, not because you love me? " I ask.

She shakes her head no.

" I couldn't love you because I had no trust in you. For me, trusting someone is the first step and you broke my first from time to time. But I'm seeing a different you, one that cares about me, and living with you has cleared all doubts. But if you have changed your mind, then I understand. "  She murmurs dejectedly, about to get up.

" Change my mind? I love you, and that won't change any day. Don't be stupid." I state holding her hand and hugging her.

" I've been dying to ask this. Can I kiss you? " I ask for her permission and she nods.

I kiss her passionately, wanting this moment for ages. Since I laid my eyes on her, I wanted nothing more than to take her in my arms and make her mine.

" I've loved you since day one Emma. Don't ever doubt that. " I state seriously, breaking our kiss.

" I think I love you too. " She jokes.

" You think? " I ask, raising one eyebrow.

I stare at her for a second and then start tickling her.

" You think? " I question again while the room fills with her giggles.

" I love you... I definitely love you. " She screams and I finally end the laughter torture.

" Should have done this the first day. Didn't know you were so ticklish " I joke back. and Emma continues giggling. Not able to recover from my tickling.

FLASHBACK ENDS

That was the best day of my life. It happened a few months ago. Emma just needed time but I feel like my words affected her the most and she finally came to the realization that Noah wasn't strong enough to be with her. He deserted her, left her all alone. I wouldn't ever do that to her. I have truly loved her.

I remember the night Noah departed with poignant clarity...

I get a call from him. He is inviting me to a club.

I drive as fast as I can because he doesn't seem alright.

On reaching the club, I see him chugging down a bottle of vodka.

I calmly walk towards him and sit beside him.

" You're one friend that I will always call because you seem to understand Lucas. " He states, his words a little slurry.

" Why does she love me? I gave her so much pain. Anyone with a sane mind would hate me but she doesn't. "
