Chapter 390

Chapter 390

Emily let out a deep sigh, as if all her frustration was seeping into the air with her breath.

"Alright, I guess there's nothing I can do about it."

Just then, Brynn followed her into the room, making Emily feel like she was overstepping her boundaries.

Tonight, Brynn was a complete enigma to Emily.

She kept making mistakes, apologizing, but never changing her behavior. It was infuriating.

"Mr. Raymond Carter, Mrs. Emily Carter, is there anything I can help with? Maybe I could help Mrs. Emily Carter with a bath?" Brynn suddenly offered.

Emily stared at her for a few seconds, her gaze probing. The conversation they had in the car earlier that evening was still fresh in her mind.

It was clear that Brynn had ulterior motives.

Before Raymond could respond, Emily declined, "I took a bath last night, I don't need another one today. Brynn, if you don't have anything else to do, you should go. I can call a cab for you."

As she spoke, Emily reached for her phone.

Brynn hesitated, looking at Raymond, and quickly said, "How about I stay here tonight to take care of Mrs. Emily Carter? Mr. Raymond Carter, you must be exhausted."

Emily's eyes flickered, and she gave a slight, almost mocking smile.

Brynn flinched under Emily's gaze and quickly looked away, unable to meet her eyes.

Raymond rejected Brynn's unreasonable request without hesitation.

He stood up, his expression cold, "This is Serenity Estates, our private residence. No outsiders are allowed to stay here. Emily's condition isn't that severe, and she doesn't want her rest disturbed."

Emily's eyes sparkled, and a faint smile appeared on her lips.

Brynn's face turned red with embarrassment.

She wanted to laugh it off, but it came out forced.

Ignoring Brynn, Emily turned to Raymond, "Go heat up the food, I'm hungry."

"Alright, I'll take Brynn home first. The food is warming up, I'll be back in ten minutes." Raymond said, pulling his car keys from his pocket.

Emily's gaze shifted between Raymond and Brynn, her expression unreadable.

Brynn's face was flushed, but her eyes betrayed a hint of joy.

Brynn quickly said, "No need, Mr. Raymond Carter. I'll just call a cab. You should stay with Mrs. Emily Carter, she needs you after everything that happened tonight."

Emily's eyes flashed, and she gave a small, knowing smile.

Brynn turned to Emily, "Mrs. Carter, I hope you recover soon. If you need anything, just call me. I'll be here to help."

She placed her business card on the nightstand.

Raymond seemed insistent on driving Brynn home himself.

"It's almost ten, you won't catch the subway. It's not safe for a girl to take a cab alone. I'll drive you," he said.

This time, Raymond wasn't asking for Emily's permission; he was determined to take Brynn home.

Emily glanced at him, still silent.

The best solution would have been to let Brynn take a cab and reimburse her the next day at work. But Raymond insisted on taking her home himself, which seemed odd.

"Emily?" Raymond called her.

Emily lifted her eyelids slightly, "Do whatever you want. I could use some quiet time alone. Or, you could take Brynn out for dinner. I'll heat up the food myself."

Raymond frowned, a complex emotion flickering in his eyes.

"Rest well. I won't eat out, I'll be back soon." He said, tucking Emily in and kissing her forehead.

Brynn watched, her lips pressed together, a hint of jealousy in her eyes.

Brynn followed Raymond out of the room, turning to wave at Emily, "Mrs. Carter, we're leaving. Take care."

Emily smiled graciously, "Goodbye, stay safe."

The room fell silent after they left.

Emily leaned back on the bed, her mind replaying the events of the evening and Brynn's words.

She had known Raymond long enough to know he wouldn't act this way towards a girl unless she was special to him.

If Brynn's words were true, then she must hold a special place in Raymond's heart.

Emily compared Brynn to Abigail, wondering if there were any similarities.

But they were nothing alike, not in looks or personality.

So why was Raymond giving Brynn special treatment?

As she pondered, Emily drifted off to sleep. When she woke up the next morning, Raymond was gone, but the bed was still warm, indicating he had held her through the night.

Stretching, Emily winced at the soreness in her body and got out of bed.

Last night hadn't seemed so bad, but this morning the pain was more intense.

As she opened the door, Raymond was standing there, startling her. The events of the previous night rushed back, and her expression turned cold.

Raymond wasn't oblivious; he had noticed her change in demeanor since last night.

Before Emily could speak, he asked, "Still mad?"
