Chapter 391

"Angry? Why would I be angry?" Emily played dumb, though she knew Raymond was sharp enough to catch on.

Raymond's eyes flickered, and his lips relaxed a bit. "We've known each other for a while now, and you're still my wife. Are you really not gonna admit it?"

A mix of emotions flashed in Emily's eyes, but she forced a smile. "Admit what? Your actions speak for themselves. You've definitely changed my impression of you. It's the first time I've seen you insist on driving a woman home. Actually, it felt more like you were forcing her."

Raymond's gaze fell on her cheek, his brows furrowing slightly. "Is that what you think?"

"It's not just what I think. Your behavior makes it impossible for others to think otherwise. When have you ever driven someone home? When have you ever cared so much about someone insignificant? And a college freshman, no less. Do you think your actions are appropriate?" Emily shot back bluntly.

Raymond's brows tightened instantly at her words.

He sighed. "I see I made you misunderstand. No wonder you were already asleep when I got home last night. I wanted to wake you for dinner, but it was late, and you were tired, so I didn't."

Emily's expression stayed flat, her face a mask hiding her true feelings.

"Don't worry. You have other women to entertain," Emily said sarcastically.

She hadn't felt much last night, but this morning, she woke up filled with inexplicable anger.

She just wanted to give Raymond a hard time; otherwise, she wouldn't feel satisfied.

Raymond's face showed no emotion, not even a hint of fluctuation.

He didn't respond to her comment but said, "After you freshen up, come downstairs for breakfast. I reheated last night's food. After breakfast, I'll take you to the hospital for a check-up."

Seeing Raymond avoid her question, Emily felt even more certain of her suspicions. She smirked. "No need. I told you I'm fine. Since you're so concerned about other women, don't worry about me. I have a bad habit of not liking to share anything, including men."

Raymond continued to look at her, then let out a chuckle, his lips curling into a smile.

"Emily, I actually enjoy seeing you jealous, especially like this."

Raymond's nonchalant attitude only fueled Emily's anger. She was convinced that he didn't take her seriously; otherwise, he wouldn't be reacting this way.

Emily's expression turned cold, her lips pressed into a thin line, signaling she didn't want to continue the conversation. She moved to close the door, but Raymond easily pushed it open.

He then pulled her into the room, guiding her to sit on the couch.

Emily didn't bother to resist; she knew she couldn't win, so she sat down.

Raymond sat on the coffee table facing her. Today, he wore a silver-gray suit jacket paired with a black shirt, exuding a restrained masculinity.

Just being close to him made her body tremble slightly.

Emily doubted that someone as inexperienced as Brynn could resist him.

"Since last night, you've been mad at me, haven't you?" Raymond asked.

Emily didn't answer, pouting like a stubborn teenager.

Seeing this, Raymond couldn't help but pinch her cheek, gently kneading it. "Come on, talk to me, or I'll kiss you."

Emily's face darkened, her voice tinged with reproach. "Raymond, don't you think you're too domineering? It's like everything has to go your way. You do whatever you want, not allowing anyone else to have their own emotions. You don't even consider if you're wrong. Yes, you're the president of the Carter Group. You're never wrong. Everything you do is right. Is that enough?" Emily couldn't help but vent.

She usually kept her cool, rarely losing her temper, but now her face was tense, her eyes icy.

Raymond's expression turned stern, his eyes growing darker. His gaze was cold, his tone flat.

"You're this angry over Brynn? Emily, Abigail never made you this mad. Or do you have a problem with younger women?"

Emily laughed bitterly, lifting her head confidently. "Raymond, I never have a problem with anyone. In Silverlight City, I've yet to meet anyone prettier than me, at any age! Even if an eighteen-year-old girl stood in front of me, I wouldn't have a problem! You think I'm that petty!"

Raymond tugged at his tie, his expression gloomy. His long fingers tensed, his jawline tight, his cheeks slightly moving, his deep eyes like a brewing storm.

But he seemed to hold back.

He turned to her, staring intently. "Why didn't you say anything last night? Why wait until today?"

Emily raised her eyelids. "My mouth is mine. I'll speak when I want to."

Raymond didn't get angry but continued, "If you have doubts about me, you can ask directly. Why sulk alone?"

Now, Emily dared to confront Raymond.

She retorted, "I didn't have a chance to ask. You were so attentive to Brynn. How could I? And Brynn was always around us. How could I ask? You can't even see Brynn's intentions?"

Raymond's eyes flickered, his expression turning helpless.

"My mind was on you last night. When I heard you were in trouble, I panicked. How could I think of anything else? As for Brynn, I have my reasons. She's different from the other interns."

Emily frowned slightly. "Different? How? Honestly, her looks and figure are nothing special."
