Chapter 142 Strange Man
Thea's gaze fell on the two of them - they looked absolutely distinguished, a perfect match of handsome man and beautiful woman, incredibly well-suited to each other.
Thea clenched her fists hard, burying all her emotions deep in her eyes. She walked forward, her pretty face still wearing a gentle smile. "Ava, I came here specifically to apologize to you about what happened last night. I found out later that it was the maid who put it in my bag - I had no idea."
Thea sighed helplessly, full of self-blame. "So Ava, I'm sorry for wrongly accusing you. I came here specifically to make amends. This is a small gift to apologize - please accept it."
Ava's expression was calm. Looking at the delicate gift box being offered to her, there wasn't much emotion in her eyes as she smiled and said, "That won't be necessary, Ms. Ellis."
"Ava, won't you forgive me?" Thea looked distressed.
Ursa walked over, took Thea's hand and patted it gently, then looked at Ava and said, "Ava, I already know about this whole thing. It was just a misunderstanding. Thea was anxious at the time and didn't know the maid had put the necklace in the bag, so she accidentally accused you wrongly. It was just a misunderstanding - don't take it to heart."
Clearly, Thea had already gotten to Ursa first.
Ava sneered inwardly. "Since it was a misunderstanding, of course I won't make a big deal of it. But Ms. Ellis's gift isn't necessary."
"Ava, please accept it. It would make me feel better," Thea said, looking at her with complete sincerity.
Ava shook her head gently. "No thanks. I'm afraid if I accept it, the next time Ms. Ellis loses something, she'll blame me again."
Thea couldn't miss the implication in Ava's words.
She gritted her teeth. Ava was really too much. She had already lowered herself so much, yet Ava still wouldn't forgive her.
"I'm going to be late for work, I have to go." Ava nodded politely and left with Joshua.
Thea squeezed the gift box hard in her hand, looking at the crushed box as if she were crushing Ava's head to vent her anger.
When Ava arrived at the hospital and got out of Joshua's car, she ran right into an old enemy.
Mia looked radiant today. She had been dropped off in a Rolls-Royce and looked extremely pleased with herself. Seeing Ava, she sneered disdainfully and walked into the hospital.
Ava raised her eyebrows slightly. Today's Mia seemed different. The Wilson family had fallen so far, yet she still had a Rolls-Royce picking her up and dropping her off, and she seemed quite close to whoever was inside.
Ava turned to look at the car that hadn't left yet. She didn't know if it was her imagination, but she felt a pair of sharp eyes staring directly at her from inside.
It gave her chills down her spine.
She calmly looked away and walked into the hospital with a hint of suspicion.
The man in the car curved his lips into a smile. "Ava, we'll meet very soon."
With so much work piled up from before, today was bound to be a busy day.
"Ava, you're finally here! I've missed you so much." Thora was munching on chocolate, leaning on Ava's desk.
"I missed you too."
"By the way, did you know Mia came back to the hospital today? She's acting so high and mighty, like she doesn't take anyone seriously. I feel like her eyes are cold and full of murderous intent - anyway, she seems different from before."
Thora took another bite of chocolate.
Ava frowned slightly. "I know. Maybe she went through some major shock."
"Whatever. Ava, your position as director is definitely secure. No matter how much she struggles, she can't make waves. As long as she doesn't mess with us, everything's fine."
"Okay." Ava nodded. "How many surgeries do I have scheduled today?"
"Let me check for you." Thora looked at the schedule. "Two coronary artery bypass surgeries, and one major surgery. Three total."
"Got it. I need to go prepare for surgery. Don't you have any surgeries today?"
"I do, but mine's at noon."
Ava said, "Don't just sit around then - go do your rounds."
Thora stretched lazily. "Work, work, endless work every single day."
Ava changed into her surgical scrubs and entered the operating room corridor, where she came face to face with Mia. Ava walked past her without looking sideways.
Mia glared at her with venomous eyes, then suddenly walked toward her and deliberately slammed into her shoulder.
Ava's eyes shifted to the corner of her eye sockets as she looked at her.
"Ava, this isn't over."
"Crazy." Ava walked straight into the operating room.
Two surgeries in the morning and one major surgery at noon were enough to keep her busy - she had no time to deal with Mia.
At lunchtime, Ava and Thora went to the cafeteria to eat. Mia kept staring at her, as if she had endless resentment.
"Is Mia going crazy or something? Why does she keep staring at you?" Even Thora found it ridiculous.
Staring at someone like that was so rude.
"Let her stare if she wants. I'm pretty - why shouldn't she look?" Ava kept her head down, eating her meal calmly.
"Ava, she's coming over. Be careful." Thora warned Ava.
Ava looked up to see Mia had already walked in front of her, holding her own food tray.
The leftover food on the tray suddenly tipped over, dumping everything into Ava's bowl.
Quite a bit of the liquid splashed onto Ava's clothes.
The air around Ava suddenly turned cold.
Thora slammed the table and stood up. "Mia, have you lost your mind?"
"Oops, sorry about that. I didn't mean to." Mia crossed her arms and smiled coldly.
"It's just a bowl of rice. Ava can just go get another one, and while you're at it, throw this one away for me too. I'm sure Dr. Qin won't mind."
Mia's mind went blank as a full plate of food was smashed into her face.
Her face was covered in food. She grabbed onto the table next to her to keep from falling over completely.
Everyone present gasped.
She had been so quiet just now that they thought she would really put up with such provocation.
No one expected this.
Mia stood there stunned for a long time, her head wet and sticky, absolutely disgusting.
"Ava, have you gone crazy? Mia just accidentally spilled food on you, but you dumped an entire plate on her head. That's too much!" Lyra, who was nearby, said angrily.
It took Mia a long time to come to her senses.
"You bitch! Do you know who I am? How dare you hit me? You slut, I'll kill you!"
Mia charged at Ava like a madwoman. Ava watched her calmly, looking at this scene with cold detachment.
The moment Mia lunged at her, Ava grabbed her by the shoulder of her clothes and kicked her knee. Mia fell flat on the ground.
Clean and efficient, without getting a single drop of grease on herself.
Everyone thought these two women were about to have a full-on fight.
No one expected Ava to take Mia down with just a few moves.
She looked coldly at the person on the ground.
"Crazy."
After saying that, Ava turned and left.
The major surgery at noon lasted four hours and was finally complete.
After giving instructions to the family members, Ava noticed her phone in her pocket had been vibrating constantly.
"Hello, teacher."
"Finn's mother?"
"Yes, is something wrong?"
"It's like this - Finn got into a fight with another child at school. The other child's parents are already here. Could you please come over?"
After hearing this, Ava's brow furrowed immediately. "A fight? I understand. I'll be right there."
