Chapter 143: Get Your Child Out of School
After hearing this, Ava's brow furrowed instantly. "A fight? Got it, I'll be right there."
Ava drove to the school and quickly arrived at the teacher's office. Before entering, she heard an arrogant voice from the doorway. "Did you hear me? Apologize to my son right now."
"I did nothing wrong. Why should I apologize? He insulted my sister first." Finn's hands were clenched tight as he protectively shielded Cleo behind him.
Cleo's face was red from crying, clearly frightened.
"If you don't apologize to my son, I'll make sure you get kicked out of this school."
The other parent arrogantly shoved Finn. Being just a small child, Finn naturally couldn't withstand an adult's push.
The two fell to the ground. Finn's eyes turned red with anger, and Cleo cried even louder.
Cleo's crying and Finn's angry voice rang in Ava's ears like thunder, rage instantly flooding her mind.
Ava clenched her teeth hard and, under the gaze of everyone in the office, calmly walked over to help Finn and Cleo up.
"You must be their mother, right?" The woman in red stood with her hands on her hips, glaring arrogantly at Ava.
Ava gently wiped the children's tears. "Finn, tell me what happened."
"Saul Pena called Cleo a little mute and said we're kids without a father. Mommy, Cleo isn't a mute. Cleo can talk, Cleo can talk." Finn said through tears. "And we're not kids without a father."
Ava's heart was pierced sharply.
"Okay, I understand. Yes, Cleo can talk. Finn, Cleo, don't cry. I'll handle this. Finn, take Cleo outside and wait for me, okay?"
"Okay." Finn wiped his tears and took Cleo outside.
"Just as I thought—an ill-mannered mother raises ill-mannered children. I'm talking to you. Are you deaf?"
Saul's mother strode over and grabbed Ava's shoulder.
Ava turned around, her icy gaze falling on Saul's mother. "What should I call you?"
Saul's mother lifted her chin high. "I'll scare you if I tell you. I'm the wife of the chairman of Apex Holdings Group, Nola Skye. We're a major company partnering with the Thomas Group. Ever heard of the Thomas Group?
Who do you think you are? Your son dares to hit my son? My son got hurt—even your son's life wouldn't be enough to compensate."
Nola covered her face, looking at Ava in disbelief.
"You've really lost your mind. You actually dared to hit me. Do you know who I am? You dared to hit me? Are you insane?" Nola rushed forward, swinging her hand to slap Ava's face.
Ava caught Nola's hand. "Apologize to my children."
"Dream on. Was I wrong? What are you? What is your son? Some kids from who knows where, and one's even a mute.
Two children without a father—my son said nothing wrong. Just wait. I'm calling my husband. I'll make sure your kids get kicked out of this school—no, I'll make sure you all get kicked out of Silverlight City."
Nola screamed frantically.
Ava coldly released Nola's hand. Nola staggered back two steps, furious, and immediately called her powerful husband while clutching her phone.
Ava stood calmly in place, watching Nola finish her call and return, her expression still composed.
"Bitch, just wait. When my husband gets here, he'll make you pay dearly and kick you out of Silverlight City."
Ava sneered. "I'm waiting."
Nola smirked. "If you kneel and apologize to me now, I might reluctantly spare you and your children."
Nola's husband was a pot-bellied middle-aged man. Hearing that his son and wife had been hit, he stormed into the office with two bodyguards.
"Who? Who dares to hit my people?"
Nola immediately pressed into the middle-aged man's embrace, cooing, "It's this woman and her children. Honey, look at my face—it's all red from being hit. If you hadn't come, I would've been bullied to death by this woman." Nola pointed at Ava.
Ava stood quietly, watching this scene coldly. The burly man was none other than the chairman of Apex Holdings Group, Dane Pena.
He now stood before her imposingly, glaring at her with eyes squeezed into slits by his fat.
"So you're the woman who bullied my wife and child. You don't know what's good for you. Apologize to my wife right now, or I'll make you pay."
"She deserved to be hit." Ava said coldly.
"So you're refusing to apologize?" Dane glared at Ava.
Ava's icy gaze swept over Nola. "She apologizes to my son first."
Nola stamped her foot in anger. "Why should I apologize to your child?"
"You pushed them and cursed at them. I can't bear to hit or scold my own children—why should they be hit and cursed by you?" Ava's eyes held no warmth, utterly cold.
"They deserved it." With Dane by her side, Nola became even more brazen.
The coldness in Ava's eyes intensified.
"If you won't apologize, don't blame us for being rude." Dane threatened. "Get the principal. Expel her two children immediately."
"Someone, pin her down and beat her hard."
"Yes, sir." The two bodyguards stepped forward.
"Don't you dare."
A deep, clear voice came from the doorway.
Ava turned around. Joshua was walking toward her step by step.
Joshua—why was he here?
Ava's eyes grew hot.
The bodyguards behind him immediately surrounded the group.
Seeing Joshua's noble features and cold demeanor, Dane's heart suddenly jumped.
Joshua stopped beside Ava, reaching out to hold her waist. Seeing Ava look up at him with slightly reddened eyes, his expression darkened further. "Are you hurt?"
Ava looked at him and shook her head. "No."
"Good. Rest now. I'll handle this."
"Bitch, where did you hire these people to back you up?" Dane tried to stop Nola, but it was too late.
"This act is really convincing. Someone who didn't know might think it's real." Nola sneered disdainfully.
"Shut up."
Samuel immediately stepped forward and slapped Nola hard across the face.
Nola's mind went blank. The pain spread densely across her face. She fell to the ground, unable to recover for a long time.
She felt only stabbing pain in her mouth, filled with the taste of blood.
Damn it.
One after another, they all dared to hit her.
"I'm Dane's wife. How dare you hit me? Are you insane?"
Joshua's lips curved in a cold smile. "Don't worry. You won't be for much longer."
"You... such big words. Who exactly are you people?" Nola was scared now. This cold-faced man didn't seem ordinary.
Dane looked at Joshua, feeling he looked familiar, as if he'd seen him at some banquet. His instinct told him this man was not to be trifled with.
The next second, Dane received a call. "I'm busy. Whatever it is can wait."
"Mr. Pena, this is serious. The Thomas Group has withdrawn their investment."
