Chapter 28 - Fun fair

KRIS:

I thought of telling Chris but wasn't really ready to talk about it.

"He should be fine.” I tried to sound carefree.

"What do you mean he should?" He asked, still walking in front.

"We don't really talk much when he's away.” I responded, absentmindedly shrugging.

He stopped and turned to look at me.

"And you're okay with that?"

"Mmmhmmm.” I shrugged again, looking away from him.

He walked closer to me and pulled me into a hug before whispering in my ear, "Keep lying to yourself.”

Tears stung my eyes but I hugged him tightly so he wouldn't see them.

"Do whatever makes you happy okay?" He patted my back and I nodded.

Sometimes, Chris was more than a best friend. More like the brother I didn't have. He understood me so much and he didn't meddle. He knew when I needed space.

"Thanks.” I managed to croak out.

"Anytime kiddo.” I smacked his shoulder and he laughed.

"Wanna go out?"

"Yeah. But where?"

"There's this funfair Jake told me about. It's today. We could go there.”

"Alright. Lemme change into something good.”

I ran upstairs as he rummaged through the fridge for food.

Getting to my room, I took a quick bath and pulled on a white crop top with black dungarees and white sneakers. Pulling my hair into a high ponytail, I hightailed to the kitchen.

"I'm ready!” I got my phone and pulled him out to his car.

"Chill your tits lady.” He chuckled.

"My tits are chilled. Now start driving.” He stared at me before shaking his head.

He started the car and pulled out of the driveway.

He drove for a while till we got to our destination. Immediately the car came to a stop, I hopped out and waited for him to get out before going to get tickets.

We joined the queue and soon it was our turn. Chris bought two tickets and gave me one.

After that, I located an ice cream stall. Dragging him with me, I bought two cups and handed one to him as payment for my ticket.

He shook his head but still collected it.

Thereafter, we walked around for a while, deciding which of the rides to take.

We finally decided on the Ferris wheel. We stood there waiting for the passengers on it to get down.

Just then, we saw Jake heading towards us. He was with a girl with black midnight hair. She looked pretty.

"Hi guys.” He greeted us.

"Yo! Mate. Was bored so I decided to come. It's nice though.” Chris replied.

Jake's eyes switched to me. We haven't talked since the last time we saw Lucian almost getting killed.

Now, the thought of Lucian made me feel I should have listened to him.

I walked to him and hugged him. Though I felt like crying, the tears didn't come.

It seemed my tear glands knew I shouldn't be crying while I'm out.

Kudos to them.

Pulling from the embrace, I grinned.

"Where have you been?" I asked.

"Where you left me.” He shrugged.

"Aww... I'm here to take you with me.” I pouted and he chuckled.

"God I missed you.”

"I know. I make your life interesting.” I winked, playfully.

"Guys, we're still here, yunno.” Chris said in a bored voice.

"Ohh...umm Kris met Tiffany.” He pointed to the girl with him.

"Hi.” I chirped. She only rolled her eyes and smiled at Chris.

Okay. I don't think we'll get along. But it's just for a few hours then she'll be back to wherever the hell she came from. I mentally concluded.

"And this is Chris.” Jake pointed him out.

"Nice to meet you Chris.” She replied, smiling sweetly.

"You guys wanna get on this ride?" I pointed to the Ferris wheel.

"Well since you're here, let's just try it out.” Jake replied.

We stood there talking till it was our turn.

We got in and I sat with Chris holding on to him tightly.

I'd never actually been on a Ferris wheel before. The height of the damn thing was enough to give me chills.

But I was up for new adventures.

I mean, that's what life is all about right? Trying new things and all?

"You look like you'll shit your pants.” Chris chuckled and I gave him a death glare.

"Relax okay. I'll be here if anything happens.” He squeezed my hand gently but that didn't help.

Immediately the ride started, I closed my eyes tightly. But after a while I heard people screaming. Opening my eyes, I saw Chris was one of them.

Dude told me to relax but he looked like he'd seen a ghost.

Well, I joined in and screamed my lungs out.

All part of the fun.

Once it came to a stop, I hopped out and he followed suit before Jake and Tiffany.

Yep. That was her nickname as I wasn't sure I'd like her.

"That was fun.” Chris yelled.

"Yeah? You sure you didn't shit your pants?" I asked and he smacked my head.

I chuckled because it was obvious he was scared.

"We should try another ride.” I suggested.

"That would have been great but we have to start going. We've been here for a while.” Jake responded.

"Alright. We're still gonna stay a while.” Chris said.

"Come give daddy a hug before I go.” Jake waggled his brows.

I gave him my best *what the fuck* look but he chuckled before pulling me into a bear hug.

Pulling away from him, he smacked his lips on my cheek.

"See ya later.” He turned to leave and Tiffany followed but not before glaring at me to which I rolled my eyes.

"Tiffany is being bitchy.” I said once they were gone.

"Yeah. She looks like a human doll.” Chris frowned and I laughed.

"Wanna tap that?"

"Hell no.” He yelled and I burst into fits of laughter.

"Come let's check out other rides.” He pulled my arm and I followed.

We spent the rest of the day hopping from one ride to the other and I momentarily forgot about Lucian till he dropped me home.

"Thanks for today.” I leaned in and hugged him from my side of the car.

"Anything for you baby girl.”

I smacked my lips on his cheek and he grinned.

"Later.” With that, I hopped out of the car and walked into the house.

Closing the door, I was enveloped with loneliness once again.

Ohh My Life.

I headed to the bathroom, took a quick bath, made dinner which I ate unenthusiastically before going to bed.

Lying on my bed, I checked my phone for any call or even texts from Lucian but there was none.

I guess that confirms it then.

Closing my eyes, I slept off. But I could hardly say it was a peaceful one.
