KRIS:
It's one of those weekends when I'm home alone and so bored. I'd tried watching a movie on Netflix but I lost interest even before it started. Since Lucian travelled, my life has been colourless and boring to death.
Tired of moping around all alone and by myself, I decide to take a nap. I waddled upstairs to my bedroom and fell on the bed but sleep refused to come. I tossed and turned in an attempt to sleep but to no avail.
Getting off the bed, I get a note and a pen to sketch something but then, no inspiration.
Tossing that aside, I laid on my bed, face down and closed my eyes, revelling in the quietness of the house and my loneliness.
Trying to be calm wasn't going well because my mind kept flashing to Lucian.
He's been gone for the past four months and in all of that he's never answered my call. Whenever I tried to contact him, it always went to voicemail.
To say I was leaving in a shadow of myself was a huge understatement. A zombie definitely looked better than me at that point.
You are wondering why?
I was fucking sick with worry.
I talked to Val and he always assured me that Lucian was fine. But his assurance didn't bring peace to my worried heart.
Deciding I've had enough of everything, I opened my eyes and got my phone from the nightstand.
I contemplated calling the bastard.
He might not pick just like every other time I'd tried but there's no harm in trying right?
I dialed his number and waited for the usual but surprisingly, he picked.
I could hear movements at the other end of the call.
My heart practically leaped with excitement. It might as well have been Christmas.
A huge grin was plastered on my face.
"Hi Angel.” I said amidst smiles.
"Who's this?” A velvety female voice answered.
What the hell? This is Lucian's number right? I asked myself with a frown.
I pulled the phone from my ear to check and off course it was. It's the only number on my phone saved with Angel.
Maybe my ears deceived me.
"Errr… I'm sure I called Lucian, so who are you?" I asked.
I couldn't tell if he gave his phone out and got a new one but I was very sure that Lucian didn't share his phone with anyone.
"I'm his girlfriend.” The voice replied.
My fragile heart practically jumped out of me at that but luckily I caught it.
His might just be the name of another guy right?
"What exactly do you mean by that?” At this point my heart was beating wildly for the fear of her reply.
"I mean, I. am. Lucian's. Girlfriend.” She drawled out like she was trying to make a point.
My heart plummeted at that. It literally stopped beating for a minute.
For how long has he been deceiving me? It might not be the most important thing now but I have to know how long I've been a fool. These thoughts took over my mind as the realization that Lucian has been toying with me began settling in.
"Ohhhh...err…if you don't mind, how long have you been together?"
"Ohhhh... two years now.” She chirped like this was an everyday kinda conversation.
At this point, my heart sprinted away and I couldn't even chase it because I was weak down to my bones.
Tears stung my eyes. I felt so hollow on the inside like I just lost a huge part of myself.
"Ummm okay. Tell your boyfriend to call me when he's less busy.” I managed in the best unaffected voice I could muster.
Ending the call, the tears I'd been holding started falling down like a dam was just opened.
I should have really known. What was I thinking about dating him? I ask myself over and over again.
People like him are not meant for an ordinary girl like me. His girlfriend is probably one supermodel. Her voice alone says it all. I kept blaming myself for believing his lies.
Out of nowhere, Intense anger crept into my broken heart.
I'm not going to cry because of an asshat like Lucian. He doesn't deserve my tears. I decided, my face hardening into a scowl.
Wiping the tears from my eyes, I ran into the bathroom and washed my face. I looked at the bathroom mirror but the girl that stared back at me was the broken pieces of myself.
I won't let him affect me. I should have known it wasn't real in the beginning. That was the little pep talk I said out loud, to console myself.
I mean, who meets a guy in a club and then they start dating? Too good to be true right?
Tears stung my eyes again but I willed them to go back.
Walking back to the room, I laid on my bed and decided to nap since I was feeling really tired now.
Somehow, I pushed the broken pieces of my heart to one corner and closed my eyes.
It took quite some time for the sleep to finally come but just as I was being dragged into its deeper throes, I heard the doorbell ringing.
Some people have the worst timing on Earth.
I pulled my pillow over my head but it wouldn't stop ringing.
Can't the idiot at the door conclude that I'm not home? I muttered through gritted teeth.
The continuous ringing of the bell pushed me from my bed and I reluctantly made my way down to open it.
On opening it, I saw a grinning Chris staring down at me.
Yeah...I've pointed out the fact that I'm short.
"You're the idiot that disturbed my nap?" I asked in annoyance, with furrowed brows.
"Way to welcome me, Kris.” He pushed me aside and got in.
"I didn't say you could come in.” I yelled, closing the door.
"Ptff...who needs permission from you?" He walked to a nearby couch and made himself comfortable.
Fucking asshole.
"Why are you even here?"
"Well it's either I get out of the house or babysit Mia and that's hell no with capital N.”
I chuckled at that.
Mia is his little sister. She's really cute and adorable to everyone except Chris and I totally love it.
"That baby is really cute. It's a pity an annoying ass like you don't know it.”
"Whatever. So what's up?"
What's up? Yeah?
Well I just found out my supposed boyfriend is a lying piece of shit. That's what's up. My head rages but instead, I just say:
"Nothing.”
"Ugh... you're boring.” He said with an eye roll.
I walked towards him and smacked his head.
"You didn't just do that.”
My eyes widened.
Oops.
I took a step back before turning and sprinting upstairs.
I was close to my room when his body crashed into mine and we hit the floor with a loud thud. Mostly me.
I groaned out in pain but he didn't stop there. He began tickling me and I laughed so much I almost pissed my panties.
"Please!!!" I screamed amidst laughter but he wouldn't stop.
He tickled the living hell out of me and I couldn't take it anymore. I just stopped struggling and pretended I was soon going to faint which I acted well and I fainted. But it wasn't easy to get there.
"Kris.” He finally stopped and shook me.
"Kris!" He called out again.
"Wake up. I promise I won't tickle you again. Please wake up.” He begged, shaking me.
I sneaked a peep at him with one eye before bursting into laughter.
He looked at me and frowned.
Getting up, he turned and started walking away from me in angry strides.
I quickly got up, ran to him and jumped on his back, circling my arms around his neck and my legs on his waist.
"I'm sorry. I couldn't take it anymore so that was the only option.” I whined.
"Don't do that again you little shit.” He scolded in a stern voice but I knew it was just a facade.
"Yes big shit.” I retorted.
What? If I'm gonna be little shit then he'll be big shit.
"How about you release the pressure on my neck a bit?"
Ohhhh, totally forgot I was holding onto him for dear life.
Sliding off his back, he turned round and caught my wrist, pulling me downstairs with him.
And I know where he's taking me to.
The Kitchen.
Chris was the male version of me that loved food. He ate a lot but there was no single ounce of fat in him. Just rock hard muscles.
Just as we entered the kitchen, he asked what I've been dreading, "How's Lucian?”
And there, my momentarily forgotten heartbreak reared its ugly head out from the corner I pushed it into.
