Chapter 68- Can’t Keep my Hands to Myself

Salara’s POV

None of the three pack members say anything about the need to leave for an hour so Derrick can “calm me down” and I am forever thankful for that. I am not sure that I would have been able to fight the embarrassment if they had said something about it.

We all settled back to where we were seated before my angry outburst and Derrick motions for the Elders to continue where we left off. Elder Winifred leans forward in her seat, a worried look on her wrinkled features.

“We went and spoke with Gamma Orlando while we waited in order to get more information on what happened this morning.” She looks up at Beta Charles, indicating that he should be the one to relay the next part.

“Orlando said that Justin wasn’t on the rotation for patrol last night.” He hesitates slightly before continuing on with the next part. “It was Savannah and Josiah that were supposed to be patrolling that part of the border, not Justin.”

“We need to get the two of them in here to question them on why Justin was there in their place.” All eyes turn to me, making me realize that I have spoken out loud. Straightening my shoulders, I decide to take ownership for my words and so I continue. “The two of them need to be punished for what has happened from their lack of showing up.”

The three of them exchange looks, making me wonder if I might have overstepped my role and spoken out of turn. Derrick has called me his Luna numerous times, but technically I am not even a part of his pack yet. I go to apologize for my outburst, but Derrick’s words stop me.

“Savannah has been missing since last night.” He says to me before turning his attention back to the Elders. “We need to find out if her disappearance was before or after the incident with Justin. And bring Josiah in for questioning like the Luna has suggested.” His fingers move to play along my thigh, bringing me comfort and a set of emotions that I can’t afford at the moment.

Hearing him call me his Luna to his Elders and his Beta calms an inner part of me that I didn’t realize was getting riled up. The contented purr that I have heard in my head multiple times before returns, only this time it apparently also moves through my chest. All eyes once again turn towards me, making me freeze in place.

I really hope that the purring didn’t translate to reality and not just in my head, but judging from the looks I am receiving, I already know the answer to that. Why in the world is this happening to me? And now of all times.

Elder Winifred casts me a curious glance, her brows drawing together as a look of concentration wrinkles up her face. A silent conversation soon ensues with the four of them, making me squirm in Derrick’s lap in discomfort. He places his arm around my waist to settle me, the conversation between them still ongoing.

‘We should listen to what they are talking about.’ My body jerks at the sound of a familiar, yet foreign voice in my head. The voice is familiar to me, but I can’t quite place where I have heard it before. A sultry chuckle soon fills my ears, coming from whoever has gotten into my head.

I really am going crazy.

My body slumps against Derrick as the four of them continue on with their private conversation without me. Derrick’s arm moves around my waist naturally, providing comfort in a time that I needed it the most.

‘You are not going crazy human.’ Another sultry chuckle reverberates around in my head. Of course the crazy voice in my head would reassure me that I am not crazy. I shake my head from left to right, surprised to find that all eyes are on me when I refocus on the wolves sitting around me.

My eyes widen in surprise as I trail my gaze over the three people who’s faces I can see focused on me. “Where did you go?” The feel of Derrick’s hot breath along my neck sends shivers of awareness down my spine and straight to the juncture between my thighs. How is it possible to get this worked up so soon after being thoroughly satisfied just minutes before?

Derrick places a tender kiss along his mate mark, sending more heat to pool between my thighs and a soft moan to escape past my parted lips. Something hard pokes along the base of my spine, letting me know that Derrick is just as affected by our proximity as I am.

It is the clearing of someone’s throat that prevents me from turning around in my seat and straddling Derrick until we were both satiated and panting for breath.

My eyes that I don’t remember closing pop open and are met with the smirking face of Elder Winifred, a twinkle in her eye making her appear younger than she usually looks. Heat floods my cheeks from embarrassment, amusing that sultry voice in my head into another fit of laughter.

“Sorry.” I manage to mumble out before hiding my face in my open palms. Derrick leans forward to wrap his arms more fully around me, soothing my embarrassment with his touch.

Elder Winifred is the one to break the awkward silence with a joyful lilt to her voice. “We have all been there Luna.” I peek out at her between my fingertips, catching more that twinkle in her eye as she clearly remembers some time long ago.

“Speak for yourself.” Beta Charles snorts from my right. He is another strong wolf that has been in the same position as the Alpha. He is pushing forty himself and still hasn’t met his mate yet. Even though he tries hard to hide it, I have noticed the longing on his features when he sees the close bond of a mated pair.

Charles is a good man. He is one of a few wolves that have been kind to me since my arrival in the Evergreen Pack, even before he learned that I was his Alpha’s mate. He deserves to have happiness, even if it is not his fated mate. Maybe I will make it my mission to find him someone to make him happy.

“I would like to speak with the Luna alone for a minute, if you would not mind Alpha.” She looks at Derrick who’s head is resting on my right shoulder, a questioning look on her face. Derrick lets out a resigned sigh before I feel his head nodding in affirmation to Elder Winifred.

I rise from my spot on his lap, soon feeling the warmth of his chest along my back. His arms wrap around my middle, bringing me in closer to him so he can bury his face in the crook of my neck. After taking a deep breath in of my scent, he places a loving kiss across my cheek.

Loneliness washes over me the instant his arms disentangle with my body. My heart is already calling out to him as he makes his way across the large office with Charles and the other Elder hot on his heels.

“I was the same way with my mate.” Elder Winifred’s words break me from the trance I was in. Pulling my eyes away from the door that Derrick just exited, I turn to look at the older woman and let out a sigh. “Does it get any easier?” I find myself asking without much thought. I make myself comfortable in Derrick’s seat, giving the elder wolf my full attention.

It would be nice to know more about the mate bond and what to expect when it comes to Derrick and I. So far all that I have learned is that it is extremely difficult to stay away from him and our sex is passionate and rushed due to our constant need to touch each other. And it only takes the slightest of touches to have our blood singing.

Elder Winifred lets out a hearty chuckle, shaking her head back and forth as she looks at me in happiness. “It becomes more manageable, but never any easier.” She winks at me, that same sparkle appearing back in her eyes.

I let out a groan, settling myself further into Derrick’s comfortable, leather chair, my eyes moving up to the ceiling. “Things are so intense with him.” I let out a huff of breath, my thoughts suffocating me. My words and actions earn more laughter from the woman seated before me, recalling my attention to her presence.

I sit up in my seat and face her amused face. “What is it that you wanted to talk to me about?” My brow raises in question. “I am not sure how long Derrick will patiently wait outside of that door before he comes bursting in.” His scent still lingers close by and I can tell from the mate bond that he is itching to be near me already.

“There are some things that you need to know, my dear.” Something about her tone of voice and the way her features change causes a pit to form in my stomach.
