Chapter 67- Danger to Others
Salara’s POV
“Is it always going to be like this?” My words break the comfortable silence that we have been sitting in for quite some time. His hands continue to run up and down my back in soothing motions, making me want to purr out in contentment. I fight back that urge though and let out a contented sigh instead.
Derrick pulls me in close to his chest, his nose burying in the base of my neck as he takes in a deep breath of my scent, something I have noticed him doing many times before. Must be a wolf thing. “I am never letting you go, Salara.” He whispers in my ear, the sound of his voice enough to reignite my cooled passions.
I let a husky chuckle tumble from my lips before I pull back enough so I can look up at his confused face. “I am glad to hear that, my Alpha, because I don’t think I could go on without you now.” A magnificent smile spreads across his face, chasing away the confusion, and making him appear brighter than he already does.
I suck in a sharp breath, dazzled by the way he looks with pleasure dancing across his features. I lift myself enough to place a loving peck to his lips before quickly pulling myself back to my seated position. Disappointment creases his brows, but he makes no moves to pull me back towards him.
That is one of the things that I adore about Derrick. He never pushes me to do more than I am comfortable with. He has been so patient with me since the day that we met and because of that a part of me feels as if I don’t deserve him. But I have become selfish enough to shove those thoughts aside and claim him anyway.
I lift my hand to cup his cheek, relishing in the way his body instantly responds to my touch. The familiar sparks that always dance along my skin when we touch makes me feel closer to him than I have ever felt with anyone else.
The tingling sensation has always been there since the very beginning, but it has become more pronounced and intense since becoming a wolf. Or maybe it is from the mate mark that graces my neck that has made our bond deeper than it was before.
If that is the case then I can’t wait to see how it feels once I am finally able to mark him. Something I never thought I would ever consider before, but I can’t deny that there is something extremely possessive that lurks inside of me that wants Derrick all to themself.
That is the part of me that I was talking about at the moment. The way my anger quickly skyrockets to a level I have never experienced before scares me. After witnessing what Henry put me through during my week of hell at the house with him, I am terrified that I will become just as angry and just as violent.
Unlike Henry, I have never felt the urge to hurt people, and having those feelings now scares me. I could never forgive myself if I hurt someone out of anger, especially if that someone was Derrick or my kids.
“What is on your mind, my love?” Derrick’s hand runs along my cheek, breaking through my troubling thoughts and bringing me back to the present. “I don’t need to feel your emotions to know that something is troubling you.” He gives me a gentle smile.
“Will I always be this angry and react this way?” I didn’t realize that tears had started to flow down my cheeks until Derrick’s hand moved up to wipe them away. The sight of his gentleness is my undoing, causing more tears to fall down my cheeks.
He pulls me in closer, his hands moving along my back as he whispers in my ear that everything will be okay. This is the kind of thing I didn’t even realize I was missing when I was with Henry. Having someone to hold you and tell you it will all be okay is a powerful tool for calming down.
It doesn’t take long before I am once again calmly laying against his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart beating in his chest. That purring sound in my head returns while I lay wrapped in Derrick’s arms, but I ignore it.
“Things will get better Salara.” Derrick whispers against my hair, his lips making contact with the top of my head as he speaks. “Your body is being flooded with instincts that you have never felt before and it can be overwhelming, but you can learn to control it.”
My body sags at those words. Learn to control it means that it will always be there in the background, ready to take over if I ever let my guard down. How can I be around Hayden when I am nothing more than a ticking time bomb waiting to go off? I would never forgive myself if I caused her any harm.
“It’s not as grim as your thoughts are making it out to be.” His gentle voice calms my growing panic. “You just need to find other outlets to let the animalistic side of you out is all.”
“Like crazy sex with the Alpha?” I let out an amused snort.
“Only if it is this Alpha.” The serious tone of his voice causes giggles to leave me.
“You’re the only Alpha for me.” The words leave my lips with all sincerity, but something pains me in a hidden part of my heart that I can’t explain. Shaking off the strange feeling, I place a kiss on Derrick’s intoxicating lips. “Shall we go again?” I cast him a wicked grin that has him groaning in need beneath me. The feel of his hardened length poking at my thigh has my blood singing once more.
To my disappointment, Derrick picks us both up and places me on my feet in front of him. “There is nothing I would like more than to spend all day in here with you, but unfortunately our hour is up and the Elders and Charles have been waiting patiently outside for the last ten minutes.”
My eyes widen in shock, my cheeks heating from the embarrassing realization that they know exactly what we were doing in here. Letting out a pained groan, I cover my embarrassment with my hands, praying for the floor to open up and swallow me up right here.
Derrick’s amused chuckles do little to ease my embarrassment. I lift my head to face him, fixing him with an annoyed glare that has him lifting his hands in surrender while more laughter tumbles from his lips.
He moves away from me and walks back over to the same cabinet that he pulled clothes for us from the last time. This time when he walks back over to me, he is carrying one of my dresses in his hand. Seeing my confusion, he explains. “I had some of your clothes be put in here just in case.” He winks at me while handing over the dress.
My cheeks flush more, knowing that he suspected something like this would eventually happen and that I would need new clothes. I’m sure he wasn’t counting on it being the very next day, but I am glad that he is at least prepared this time around.
“Sex is a natural thing with us wolves.” Derrick tells me from a safe distance away. “It is nothing to be shy or embarrassed about.” Deep chuckles rumble through his chest, causing him to shake with it. “You would be surprised how many precarious situations we find our newly mated wolves in.”
I pull the dress over my head while I ponder what he has said. Now that he mentions it, I have seen way more of some of his pack members than I would have liked. It is that reason alone that I avoid the living areas and the media room. Too many times have I walked in on makeout sessions, or far worse.
“Are you ready?” Derrick asks, reaching out to grab my hand to offer me strength. I nod my head in affirmative, though I am not sure how I am going to be able to face the three wolves with the knowledge that they know what we have done. I’m not sure I will ever get used to being a wolf.
I just hope that Derrick is right and that things will get better. Not just with the teenage level need for sex, but also with my angry outbursts. I don’t like knowing that I am walking around as a danger to others.
