Chapter 69- Revelations

Salara’s POV

“Have you spoken to your wolf yet?” Whatever I was expecting to come out of the older wolf’s mouth first, this was not it. I sit there in stunned silence trying to figure out what game the old woman was trying to play. I clearly remember Derrick telling me that made wolves are not given a wolf counterpart like born wolves.

‘Very perceptive.’ I hear from that voice inside of my head. ‘I like her!’ I can almost picture the grinning face of a white wolf, the expression looking ridiculous on her wolfish features.

Elder Winifred gives me a sly smirk, a tinkle of laughter leaving her lips. “I can tell by the look on your face that you have.” She nods her head as if this was the most logical conversation to be having and not a completely confusing situation that has me completely lost.

She reaches across the desk, patting the back of my hand with her wrinkled fingers. The feel of her hand against mine is oddly comforting. A sense of awareness moves through me at her touch, but I shake that feeling off as nothing important. I have seen the older woman around the pack many times and that is probably all it is.

“I thought that made wolves aren’t gifted a wolf like those of you who are born.” Confusion is clear in my voice and I can feel my brows drawing together as I frown over at her. Elder Winifred pats my hand one more time before leaning back in her seat with a thoughtful look on her face.

“This is true.” She finally says after some time has passed. “But there are always exceptions to this of course.” A comforting smile appears on her gentle face. “One of those exceptions is the reason why Henry also has a wolf swimming around in his mind. A very powerful wolf at that.” Surprise shoots my eyebrows up to the top of my head.

My body slams back against my seat as I rethink my many interactions with him recently where I noticed he almost acted like a completely different person. One conversation in particular runs through my head.

“I won’t allow him to hurt you any longer, so you have no reason to fear us.” “I wasn’t strong enough to stop him back at the house, and for that I will be forever sorry…”

Is it possible that that was he wolf talking to me? And that he was talking about Henry when he mentioned someone hurting me?

My hands move up to cover my face. Everything that Elder Winifred has told me is too much for me to handle and I can feel a small panic attack coming on. Is this the reason that I felt connected to Henry at times?

I’m not going to lie that that would be a major relief because I have been kicking myself over my confusing feelings for Henry and have been questioning my sanity because of it as well. If there truly is a wolf inside Henry’s mind, then that is definitely who has been nice to me all of this time, and certainly explains his shift in moods.

“I know this is a lot to take in.” The sound of Elder Winifred’s soft voice reminds me of the fact that I am currently not alone. Pulling my hands from my face, I focus my gaze on her face, deciding it is best to tackle this newfound information headon. Something I am not used to doing, but if I want to be Derrick’s Luna then I need to start somewhere.

“Why us?” I ask her, not liking the way my voice comes out sounding more vulnerable than I had intended. When in a den of fierce wolves, it is not good to appear weak, something I have learned first hand.

“You were always meant to go down this path Salara, it is your curse.” A gasp escapes me before I can call it back, earning a pity smile from the Elder seated before me. “You have lived this life countless times before, and each time it has ended in tragedy.”

Images of my nightmare from last night flits through my head, but I shove them down deep in order to not be consumed by them. I don’t understand why this is happening to me. In each new scenery that I faced last night, the ending was always the same…the death of me and my mate.

My eyes widen as fear for Derrick’s safety flashes swiftly through my system, nearly causing me to jump up and go to him. But another thought in the back of my mind is what keeps me rooted to my seat. I am always the cause of my mates destruction, if I truly loved him then I would leave to keep him safe.

“Derrick is not the mate from your visions.” Elder Winifred’s words draw my attention and focus back to where she sits on the other side of the desk. The frown that contorts her features leaves me feeling as if I have missed something important in our conversation. “The addition of a new mate is something that has never happened before.”

My brain moves at lightning speed, trying to make sense of what the old woman could mean. As far as I know I only have one mate, so what is she talking about when she says a new one?

“Henry’s wolf is the mate that you have seen in your visions.” Her words shock me, but not as much as you would think. Learning that his wolf is my mate seems oddly right and a feeling of longing barrels through me at full speed. If Henry’s wolf is my mate, then where does that leave Derrick?

I have grown quite attached to the handsome Alpha and I can’t imagine my life without him in it. Him and his son have wormed their ways into my heart and I would stop at nothing to keep them in my life, as long as it doesn’t put them in danger that is.

Even I have heard the rumors going around that I am somehow responsible for the increase in rogue attacks, and a part of me can’t help but feel like it is true. The last thing that I would ever want to do is be responsible for the lives of Derrick’s innocent pack members. Like the boy that was killed this morning, that death will weigh heavily on me.

“I am not sure what the Goddesses plan is for you and Alpha Derrick, but I hope his addition will help you find the happiness that you have been lacking throughout your lifetimes.” Something in the way she looks at me has me thinking that she knows more about the situation than she is letting on.

“How do you know so much about this?” I lean forward in my seat, placing my arms on the edge of Derrick’s desk as I stare into her all too knowing eyes.

Elder Winifred hesitates for a moment, a battle appearing in her gentle eyes. After a brief moment of silence where I imagine she was talking with her wolf, she finally speaks up. “This is not the first time that we have met Salara.” That bombshell was not expected. I once again sit back in my seat, completely taken off guard yet again.

“I never thought I would be around to see you in another life, but the Goddess has blessed me with your presence once again.” She bows her head to me as if I was royalty, something deeper than the title of Luna that was given to me. “It has been a long time, my Queen, but I am honored to be able to serve you once again.”

I shift in my seat, feeling a bit uncomfortable with the Queen talk. “Please don’t address me as such.” She lifts up her head, giving me a teasing smile.

“Even in your last lifetime you didn’t like the title of Queen.” The smile grows on her face. “Good to see that you haven’t changed.” I nod my head, at a loss for words after everything I have just heard. “Once Beowulf learns that you have survived that foolish boy's bite, he will stop at nothing to claim you.” Worry creases her brow.

‘Beowulf…’ The voice that I now know is my inner wolf sighs out dreamily. ‘It has been too long, my love.’ I can already tell that things are going to get extremely complicated in the near future. ‘Do not be so dramatic.’ My wolf scolds. ‘Your Alpha is a delicious one as well.’

Goddess help me! I roll my eyes at my wolf’s antics. This is definitely going to take some getting used to.
