Chapter 249 The Client

Chapter 249 The Client
Thessia and Vella gave Maeve every clue that they remembered, which was not a lot. Maeve changed her clothes, and everyone walked into the kitchen to prepare for dinner.

“Did she say Blackridge, Eve?” asked Harriet in the kitchen.

“No, Grandma! Why would she say Blackridge? Why would the CEO come to such a small office?” lied Maeve. “She said Blackwell, the new VP.”

“You are right! You are absolutely right. Why would Blackridge come to this city? They have never visited. Not once in so many years,” finally Harriet breathed normally. She was worried for a minute. She didn’t want anyone from the Blackridge family to find Maeve and Valeska. To protect Valeska, Harriet tried to do the same spell that she did on Maeve, but Valeska’s body rejected it. It meant one of two things – either she didn’t need any protection because she was just a normal human kid, or there was something extremely powerful already protecting her. Harriet just didn’t have the answers now. She would have to wait for Valeska to show her power.

The dinner was done, and all the ladies sat down to eat the delicious food that they all prepared together.

“Oh, my family is going to kill me,” laughed Vella.

“Mine too!” smiled Thessia.

“Why?” asked Valeska.

“Because we ate delicious food and our families didn’t!” laughed Thessia, making Valeska cover her mouth and giggle happily.

“See you tomorrow!” said Vella and Thessia and walked out. Maeve sighed loudly. Her heart was hammering in her chest. She had no idea how she was going to hide from Thorin. She had no other way; she would have to face him and gaslight him into thinking that he had never met with her. But how was she going to accomplish that? And the second thing she had to do was never let Thorin find out about Valeska.

That night Maeve slept with Valeska tightly wrapped in her arms. She didn’t want to let her go, even for a second. The next morning, Maeve’s mind kept screaming at her not to go back to the office, but she had to. Otherwise Thorin was going to shut the whole office down. What the hell did he think about himself? Was he the boss? Of course he was the boss. Maeve gritted her teeth at that thought. She knew it was his office, his building, his employees; he could do anything he wanted to everything and everyone. She hated him for that.

She got ready, kissed Valeska, had her breakfast and walked to her car. She informed the client that they would have to meet in the office today, not anywhere outside, as it was the office policy not to meet with a client outside more than two days in a row. The client reluctantly agreed.

Harriet ran after Maeve to give her a Jasmine tea as she didn’t want to leave anything to chance, but Maeve was gone by then. Maeve parked her car with a heavy heart and walked inside the office.

“Oh my god! You are here! Thank God! You are here,” everyone shouted at her. Maeve laughed for a minute, but she knew her fear was not going anywhere. She punched in her attendance and kept praying that the client would arrive before Thorin and his team.

And lo and behold! Her prayers were answered. The client’s team arrived early even though the client was a little late. Maeve went into the conference room on her floor with her team to show the new additions to the programme they had designed, but no one had any clue what to change or what to add. Everything depended on the client.

Thorin walked into the office and again was hit by the familiar smell. He closed his eyes to take in the beautiful, sweet-smelling scent and for a second, his heart slowed down; he was at peace. He met Thessia while walking to the lift area and asked about Maeve. “I hope she is here today.”

“Yes, yes, she is in the building. She is here today,” replied Thessia, happily.

“Then let’s the test commence,” smirked Thorin. “Today I will see how good of a coder she is,” he smiled at the back of his head. Corvin rolled his eyes at his premature happiness.

Suddenly, the lift area was filled with a handsome man and a few delivery workers. The handsome man, dressed casually in a white T-shirt and baggy trousers, was smiling from ear to ear.

“Good morning, Mr Sewell!” greeted Thessia.

“Good morning, Ms Morwen!” he replied.

“Here for the meeting?” asked Thessia.

“Yes, I am. I hope Ms Arrendale is ready with the new changes. I have been creating so much trouble for you all that I think that I have to bribe you all. That’s why I brought sandwiches and coffee for her team as well as my team,” he smiled.

A lift opened, and Thessia gestured for him to walk inside first. “Your time is valuable. Please go in!”

“Go with him; we will take the next lift,” ordered Thorin and pushed Thessia inside. The delivery workers walked behind Thessia, and the lift closed.

“I am going to the HR department, bye!” said Vespera and got down the second lift before Thorin and Corvin. After Vespera was gone, Corvin let out a loud scream and punched the glass wall of the lift. The glass shattered into a million pieces and scattered all around their feet.

“Woah! Woah! What was that?” asked Thorin and grabbed Corvin’s hands.

“That asshole! He has been deliberately pestering our staff. He keeps asking to change the programme because he wants to spend time with the team lead. She thinks she is smart and beautiful. He has been calling her every day just to stare at her. He is gathering courage to ask her to a date,” shouted Corvin.

“Why are you so worked up if he likes someone?” asked Thorin.

“Because that woman is Maeve Arrendale. He has been calling her to meetings just to waste his time, her time, our time. You could have met with her the very first day, but he keeps calling her. he was thinking about kissing her,” replied Corvin.

“What the hell!!!” screamed Thorin, and this time he shattered a glass wall. More and more pieces of glass fell down to the floor at their feet. “He is thinking about kissing her? I will rip his lips right off his face.”

“Wait! Why are you getting angry?” asked Corvin, shocked.

“Why did you get angry?” asked Thorin.

“I… I don’t… don’t know,” replied Corvin.

“Why are we getting angry? We have not yet met with that Maeve Arrendale. So, why are we feeling like this?” asked Thorin, shocked to his core. “Who the hell is she? Why is she impacting us?”

“I don’t know. Is she a witch? Are we bewitched?” asked Corvin.

“How? We have never seen her. We have only heard about her, good things about her. I am jealous; I get that. But what about you?” asked Thorin.

“I… do… not… know! We have to find her and then we will know the answer,” said Corvin.
