Chapter 57 I Hope You Die

Chapter 57 I Hope You Die
Julian's POV.
The black suit I had chosen for the burial laid on the bed, staring at me. It reminded me of when I finally laid my sister to the earth. I would never forget that day, even till I left the world. Everything felt silent as the world tried to pull up colors that went with the mood of the day. I was so far gone in my thoughts that when the door suddenly opened, I jumped slightly before realising that it was holy James. "Time's almost up. The ceremony is about to begin!" James said as he popped his head into the room. I blinked and broke away from the suit I had been staring at. "Don't you dare interrupt my thoughts like that. Wait outside, I will meet you there." I growled. James' head slowly disappeared behind the door and I wished I could punish him greatly. But I knew this was just passive aggression. James wasn't my problem, I was the suspect. I put on the suit and took a hard long look at the mirror. It was a perfect fit, I had to give the tailor some credit, even though I had it made on short notice. I wore my black leather shoes and walked out of the door. If I had that power, I wouldn't wear black suits again. I will make sure to help find a cure for Laura. That was what I owed her for everything I cost her. If I could get a cure for her sickness then even the world would be on my side when I come begging her for forgiveness— especially if it turned out that her father was innocent. Why wasn't I this calm back then? I could have avoided a lot of things... My heart became tight with emotions once more and I knew standing there and feeling sorry for myself wasn't going to cut it. I had to pull myself together. I took deep breaths and stepped out of the room. I got into the waiting car with my escorts and drove all the way to the venue, a private cemetery on the hill facing the old clan. I had reserved a nice spot for his burial and the ceremony. I could only hope that everything would be fine. As the car came to a stop, I was overwhelmed by the number of people gathered. I reckoned they were from across the realm and beyond. I got down and started registering the presence of those I found important. Officials, some alpha's of notable packs, my generals and the most powerful people. My child and Sarah were in a separate section of the crowd. But they were all here. As I moved, the people bowed their heads in respect and I maintained a firm composure even if I was dying to see Laura. I couldn't spot Laura anywhere, nor Blade or the others. "Where's Laura?" I asked James when I couldn't keep it in anymore. "They are on their way. My men said they will arrive soon," he said. I nodded at James and focused on Raphael's body in front of us. He was placed in a Golden's casket, the ones reserved for alphas. It was the honor he deserved, even though I took almost everything he had. It couldn't replace what I had done to him. The only way I could make this right, was to help his daughter in her mission and find a cure for her. That way, I might be forgiven by this man. Looking back at the incident, I should have asked him what happened, instead of showing back three years later with an army that massacred the clan. I stared at the open casket. Raphael laid peacefully in it, not a care for the world. I lowered my head down to his face. "I'm sorry. I will protect your daughter with all I have." Laura's group arrived and I turned to face them. She was supported by her mom, Mackenzie and Blade— who held a folded wheelchair in his arms. She was still recovering from that accident. I walked down the line towards her. I even opened my hand to support her but she ignored me and walked right past me to the casket. The action was barely noticeable to the people gathered but it took a chunk out of my heart. But I swallowed it and followed behind her. I caught the look of astonishment on her when she saw that I had given her father alpha honors. "What's this?" She turned towards me. I really wished she kept her voice down, because everyone looked interested. But it was too late to tone her voice. "Your father is an alpha. He deserves to be given that honor," I reminded her. Laura looked back at her father and remained silent. Her eyes were red, but tears refused to fall. She was very cold towards me. I couldn't blame her, I deserved it in any way. No amount of buttering could hide that it was my fault her father died. The priest approached me and whispered to my ears. "It's almost time. We have to do it fast." I glanced at my watch and nodded. "Alright, begin the ceremony." The priest began and I stood at the opposite side of the casket, staring at Laura. Now that I got a better look at her, her skin was pale and she had lost some fat. I could tell she was barely or not eating at all. After a few sprinkles of bane on the casket and a five minute lecture on life and death, it was time for the actual burial. Six able bodied men supported the large golden casket with ropes on each side as they gently lowered it in the hole. I took a look at Laura again, but she wasn't crying. Her body trembled, but her face was dry like a desert. Mack supported her while Felicity, Raphael's ex-wife, wailed while being comforted by Blade. This scene made me feel very guilty. I looked away immediately and clenched my fist. It reminded me that I had caused it. Yet I wanted to hear something from Laura. Anything at all but not the silent treatment. But my wish didn't come true, until after the casket had been completely buried and a patch of new grass was applied at the top that Laura decided to talk to me. When I saw her coming towards me, I thought it was an opportunity for me to be able to pay my condolences to her but I was rightfully wrong. "You!" She pointed furiously at me. "You are the cause of everything. You caused all of this!" She fired. I stood there silent, taking everything she threw at me. She was angry at me but she was still talking to me. And that was okay... "Laura, stop let's go home." Mack pulled her arm but she resisted. She got up the wheelchair and took a step towards me. "Let me pour out my heart towards this man! let me do it!" She yelled at Mack as she came to me. My heart sank but it continued beating. As Laura stood before me, the tears she had managed to stop began to trickle down. It was only a few drops at first but as she raised her finger to point at me, it became a river of tears. "If it weren't for you, my father would have still been alive. He would have been here today, smiling with us but you took him away! Why did you do that? Why did you do it?!" She wailed. James approached me, but I waved him away. This was my punishment. I was a rightful cunt. "What happened to dialogue, hun? I thought you were a just Lycan king Julian. I thought you were supposed to be wise but no! You decided to plan revenge on a clan!" Her words were slaps again at my skin. Each of them pulled me lower than my wolf already went. "You married me, only to get close to my father. You killed him and many more because you were told that he supposedly killed your sister. What are you? A tyrant, a damned tyrant!" Remorse was all over me. It clutched my heart and my lips. I wanted to defend myself that the massacre wasn't my doing but I was the one that allied with the army that did it so it was also my fault. "You refused to treat him! He could have been better if he was treated earlier but you refused! The security footage of the people that poisoned him is gone, and you haven't done much after that! You might even be the one, I won't be surprised!" Laura continued crying and yelling. "Laura, that's enough. Come on—" Blade appeared and tried to pull her away because of the scene she was causing but she pushed him away. "Leave me!" She struggled and kicked. "I hate you Julian, I hate your name and everything that comes from you!" My body trembled at those words. It carried an even deeper meaning to my soul. Blade dragged her away, and as she passed me, she didn't waste that opportunity. "I hope you die." She hissed and my heart shattered.
