Chapter 48 - Your father, Janine

Janine.

It’d been two days since we lost the former Alpha, and today was the funeral. The pack hall had a gloomy mood, and everyone was in a black outfit.

The Barons were seated at the side of the hall, they had been stealing glances at me where I sat with the Luna. She had dark shades on her eyes and her handkerchief in her hands. For the past few days, all she did was sit and cry.

Kaden was called upon by the Chief Elder of the council to give a eulogy as the son of the late Alpha.

He was standing and the podium and was speaking in a melancholic tone, and after, he was buried. The Luna collapsed at the tomb, and she was taken home, Kaden didn’t want me to stay with him and asked the guards to take me home with his mother.

I stayed with Luna until she recovered but she refused to eat anything, and it was almost late before Kaden came home. When I heard the car drive into the compound, I knew it was him. We haven’t said a word to each other since then, he has been quiet and mostly stares blankly at the wall.

When I caught him crying which he didn’t want me to, he tried to act as if he hadn’t been crying his eyes out. I had slid down beside him on the corner of his bed, and he leaned on me with his head on my shoulders.

We stayed for a long time, and I never knew Kaden could be this quiet.

I was in Luna’s room, and I didn’t want to leave her, she didn’t seem to be a good shape, so I decided to lay next to her and stayed for the night. She eventually slept off with her arms around me.

when I woke up, Luna was still asleep, I took her arms away from my body tucked her properly on the bed, and used the covers on her. I can’t understand how devastating she felt, losing her husband. I had no idea that the Alpha was terribly sick, they never made mention of it in the house.

It was probably the reason I never saw him since the last time we ate breakfast together, he wanted to see me. I thought he was going to be cruel to me, and he was surprisingly friendly towards me.

We were told by the family lawyer that he left some letters for his family, and he gave me one too, and we were going to get it from the lawyer.

I heard Kaden talking with someone in the living room when I came out of Luna’s bedroom.

I rubbed my eyes and decided to wash my face before I met him downstairs.

“...she just needs to have some rest, and she will be fine.” I heard the voice of Doctor James the moment I came down the stairs.

He stood up when he spotted me, and lowered his head in greetings. I did the same to him as well, lowering my head.

He lifted his head and smiled. “I found you resting, I didn’t want to bother you and decided to speak with the Alpha instead, did you sleep well?”

I nodded curtly and stood before him and Kaden.

Kaden wrapped his arm around my waist pulled me into his lap, and buried his face on my neck.

Doctor James cleared his throat, and went to take his seat, he brought a small briefcase along with him.

I guess the person he was talking about was Luna.

“You don’t have to worry as long as she has enough rest, she will be fine, Alpha and I think you need to rest as well too.” Doctor James said to him.

Kaden didn’t respond to that, he placed soft kisses on my neck, and I managed to smile at the doctor. I need to assure him that Kaden was listening to what he said.

He brought some documents out of his briefcase and kept them on the table in front of me.

“I told you I was going to email the results to you but I decided to bring them to you instead, and also because I had something to discuss with the Alpha.” He folded his hands on his lap, and I picked up the documents from the table and cast a swift look at Doctor James.

“We have been working on it before that’s why we got results this quick.” He said and I raised a brow at him.

He stared at Kaden, and Kaden sighed and threw his head back in the chair, and gave the doctor a dull look.

Doctor James swallowed, did he say something he wasn’t supposed to let out? The strange look on his face said it.

“Alpha and I...” His eyes were on Kaden as if seeking permission to speak from him, I tilted my head around and stared at Kaden, and stared at the doctor. “...we were working on something before the day he found you and brought you here to the house. I took some blood from you to run a test and find a match on your parents and since you were a Beta female, and when you brought the strand of hair we were already close to having a lead.” He explained.

I narrowed my gaze at Kaden, he never told me about that.

He rubbed my cheek with his thumb. “Sorry, I was gonna tell after I found your parents.” He muttered, the tiredness in his voice was evident, I couldn’t even get angry with him.

I took my gaze back to the doctor.

“What does the result say?” Kaden asked him, he seemed too tired to run his eyes over the documents, but he did glance at them in my hand.

“We did find a match.” He answered and held my gaze. “Beta Baron is your biological father, the test results are there, and same as the DNA test results, I have attached all the documents in there. Beta Baron is your father, Janine.”
