We lost him
~Kaden~
I wasn’t myself the whole day because I couldn’t find Janine or hear from her since she left the house.
I was with my parents in their bedroom, and when I came out, Janine was gone. A maid saw her leaving in a taxi, and she hadn’t responded to any of my messages.
When I got to the concert, I couldn’t do anything but sit in the corner of the hall, staring at the blank screen of my phone. Hoping to receive a message from her.
“...missing Janine?” Dale tapped my shoulders.
I looked up and saw him standing with Sarah. I sighed and tucked my phone into my pocket.
“I can’t think straight without Janine being here. It’s crazy, I can’t do anything or keep my thoughts off her.” I complained to him stood up from the chair, and shoved Sarah aside when she tried to touch me. She frowned and took the seat I stood up from.
“I just want Janine with me, and see her every single minute. It feels like I’m going insane.” I ran a finger through my hair.
“You love her don’t you?” He asked with a silly grin.
I growled at him.
“I...I...” I struggled with words, I didn’t know what to say.
Do I love Janine?
I mean, I don’t want to lose.
I scratched the back of my head, and Dale narrowed his gaze at me.
“Do you think so?” I asked.
He chuckled. “It’s obvious you do, I never thought you would get to love anyone or even stick to Janine.”
“Is anything wrong with Janine?”
“Of course not, she’s perfect.” He sipped from the red cup he was holding and stretched it towards me. I took it from his hand and gulped it down, I frowned at the taste. “You mixed the drink didn’t you?”
“Just a little.”
I tossed the empty cup towards him and sighed.
I didn’t know where Janine went, and she wasn’t responding to my messages. If I didn’t see her in the next hour, I would leave and search for her.
“You’re being gloomy, Kaden. I can take care of that.” Sarah muttered and glanced at me.
“Don’t fucking touch me!” I flared at her when she reached out to me with her hand.
“You don’t have to be so mean.”
“Don’t even come close. Keep fifty centimeters away from me, and if you see Janine, stay away from her as well bitch.”
“Yes, I am your bitch.” She smirked, stood up from the chair, and wanted to touch my arm but I stepped back.
“Shameless.” I spat.
She shrugged, and dropped the handbag she was carrying, she took a step closer to me.
“You’re daring me ain’t you?”
She blinked her eyes at me, trying to act all innocent and the look on her face disgusted me, I wondered how I was able to flirt with her all those times.
‘I told you, you had low standards for girls until you met mate.’ Max snorted in my head.
I rolled my eyes at him.
‘Shut up.’
‘You know I am right.’ He taunts.
I was going to respond to him when I saw Janine searching through the crowds. She wore the dress I brought, and a denim jacket looking effortlessly beautiful even without her makeup on.
A smile spread out on my face staring at her. She stopped searching and was standing close to the front of the stage, watching the band group with a smile.
I stood for a while and just watched her, and felt my heart itching while staring at her. I placed my palm on my chest, feeling my heart thumped.
Fuck.
I swallowed hard and dropped my hand. She was clapping to the song of the band, she was smiling brightly. I made my way towards her, I couldn’t see anyone else except her, amidst the crowd she was the only one I could see.
My mate, Janine.
I was stroking her hair while she slept, I had been awake for over an hour and was staring at her as she slept while I stroked her hair.
I took her hand and kissed it. She stirred and fluttered her eyes, I leaned closer and kissed her lips, muttering a good morning.
She smiled and closed her eyes again.
“I will bring you breakfast.” I smiled back at her, kissed the bridge of her nose, and buried my face in her neck for a moment, inhaling the smell of my mate.
“I will be back soon.” I pulled my face away and looked into her eyes which were partly open and squinted at me. “Sleepy bead.” I chuckled and placed a soft kiss on her forehead before I stood up from the bed, taking my phone along with me.
I walked out of the room to get the breakfast from the kitchen.
“I made the breakfast as ordered, Alpha.” The maid in the kitchen bowed when I came in.
“Did my mom come down for breakfast?” I asked.
She looked at me and lowered her head again.
“When you were away, they took your father to the hospital. She hasn’t come home since then.” She answered.
I grabbed the tray that had the food in it and was about to leave the kitchen when my phone rang. I dropped the tray and took the phone out of my pocket, Mom was calling, I was going to call her after I brought breakfast for Janine.
“...Mom I heard you...”
“Kaden.” She called in between sobs.
“I’m here. I will be in the hospital in a moment, I need to get Janine some food...”
“Your father...” She burst into tears, I gripped the phone tightly on my ear.
“Mom. Talk to me.”
“Your father is gone to rest permanently.”
My lips quaked as I tried to speak, how could it be so sudden?
“The doctor said it was...he said there was still time so what do you mean he’s gone.” Someone took the phone from Mom’s hand, I could hear her crying from the background, and the sound of a deep voice consoling her, and he was the one holding the phone.
“Gemma Lucas speaking, the former Alpha is dead.”
