Chapter 49 - You are not my daughter
Janine.
My hands gripped the documents tightly, and I stared at them, I could feel the tears gathering up in my eyes.
Baron was my father?
A tear escaped from my eyes and fell on the paper I gripped in my hands.
How could it be?
“Janine,” Kaden called when he noticed my change of countenance, he spun me around took me off his lap, and placed me on the chair beside me. He placed a hand on my cheek and stared at me intently.
“Let me.” With his other hand, he took the documents off my hand carefully and kept them aside. “Breath. Janine.” He whispered. I nodded but couldn’t hold back the tears, he placed my head on his chest, and his hands went around my body.
“This explains why you’re a Beta wolf because Baron is the Beta of our pack, and why he was cruel to you despite being his daughter...” He sighed. “We don’t know about that and why he couldn’t recognize you. Every werewolf could recognize their child because of the bond they shared. How could he not know that you’ve been with him all these years.” Kaden whispered, I sobbed bitterly in his chest, I didn’t know why, and neither did I have any answers to the questions that had been in my heart.
I was left in an orphanage before Baron and his wife came to pick me up.
Kaden’s hands rubbed my back soothingly and kissed my hair.
“I want you to know that I won’t leave you, Janine. I will stay and fight with you...” he lifted my sticky face from his chest, and wiped the tears that were running down my cheeks off. “You can use me as much as you want.”
I sniffed and nodded and he pulled me back into his arms.
I know Kaden will be busy because of the pack duties since his father was no more, and I don’t want to depend so much on him, I have to handle some of this on my own.
“I will take my leave now.” Doctor James cleared his throat, and I stared at me over Kaden’s shoulders. He stood up from the chair and rubbed his hands over his lap. I wiped my eyes and disengaged from Kaden.
Kaden turned and took his gaze over to the doctor, I picked up the documents and stared at them for a while.
“You don’t have to see me out, Alpha Kaden...”
“I wasn’t going to.” Kaden snapped. I narrowed my eyes at Kaden. He shrugged and rolled his eyes.
Doctor James bowed, adjusted his tie awkwardly, took his briefcase, and walked out of the house.
“Will you have some breakfast?” Kaden asked, he kissed my hand, and my shoulders.
I shook my head and took my eyes off the document. “I will go check on my mother.” He added.
I nodded curtly, he should check on her.
‘I will go see my father.’ He informed him through the mind link.
‘You want me to come with you?’ He asked.
I shook my head.
‘I will come and pick you up then.’
I shook my head again, and Kaden sighed. He touched my hand. ‘Will you be fine on your own?’
I squeezed his hand. ‘Trust me.’ I muttered through the mind link.
He smiled faintly and kissed my forehead. “Love you.” He mouthed and went out of the living room.
I held the documents in my hands and knew it was time to face Baron.
The man that was my father.
He won’t be home at this time, and I had to meet him at his office.
I knocked on the door of his office after his secretary asked me to go in. I haven’t been here in a long time, the last time I came to his company, I was still in middle school.
“Come in, Janine.” I heard his voice, he muttered a few curses under his breath when I opened the door.
He was seated on his director's chair, he had glasses on his face. He was operating on the computer with a frown on his face.
He sighed and leaned back on his seat when he saw me. “Why are you here? Tired of your mate already. You should be at school at least or you’re still mourning?” He huffed.
“Kaden will never get married to you, you might be his mate doesn’t mean he will make you his Luna and perform a rite of taking you as his mate.” He said and folded his arms.
“Have you agreed to reject him and come back home, you should’ve taken my advice as your father instead you decided to be stubborn, you’re taking the wrong path and it’s not gonna end well—“
I tossed the documents in front of him, and the sound of the documents hitting his table made him fall silent.
I clutched my gown with my hands, watching him, he furrowed his brows and picked up the documents. “What is this?” He adjusted his glasses. “Why do I have to ask a dumb girl like you?” He muttered under his breath and flipped through the first page.
I took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly. I didn’t want to tear up in front of him and was holding back.
He took his glass off his face, wiped it with a handkerchief, and placed it back in his eyes.
“What is the meaning of this?” He whispered and his hands were trembling as he kept flipping the pages till the last which had the DNA results.
His lower lips quaked, he struggled to speak and looked up from the documents in his hand. He stared at me and shook his head.
Then, he swallowed. “What is the meaning of this? Janine. Is this what you can come up with? What is wrong with you?!” He yelled and hit the documents hard on the table and stood up.
He wagged a finger at me. “Is this some kind of plot? Is that your plan because you found that picture on my drawers and decided to manipulate me with this!” He roared.
With my eyes filled with anger and hatred, I made signs with my hands furiously at him, angrily pointing at myself and him.
His eyes were fixed on me, trying to figure out what I was saying to him.
He could feel the anger in which I spoke to him though without my voice.
How hard it was for me to live with him, and that he was my father.
“You learned sign language.” His voice was timid. “You’re moving too fast...”
I made a sign that I had to find a way to express myself when he refused to get me a tutor and kept me locked up because I embarrassed him.
I lost control of my emotions and wept and I found it weird that he understood everything that I said to him.
“I can not believe this, it’s all your plan to...”
I made a sign that he should find it out himself, I went to his desk picked up the documents, and stormed out of his office, wiping the tears that were blinding my eyes off.
“You’re not my daughter!” I heard him yell.
