Chapter 44 - A night with you
Janine.
“How...how did you get that Janine?” He snatched the photo from my hand and stared at it. His countenance changed, he looked sad, and his eyes glinted with guilt, he looked keenly at that picture and I almost thought he was going to cry.
He tucked the picture into his pocket and turned to me. “What?” He mouthed.
I dropped my hands at my side, and stared at him, if he was my father he should have known.
How could he not recognize the bond between us?
How could he not know that I was right in front of him, and he treated me that way?
I don’t have any evidence that he was my father yet, and I would have to find out and come back to see him.
“Why are you glaring at me? Did you think I cheated on Mom, I never cheated on Monica so don’t give me that stare. This is just...forget about it and we never had this conversation.”
I pointed to the woman in the photo, and he exhaled.
“It’s not for you to know. Leave, you should stay with Kaden it’s better than you snooping around the house.” He turned his back and walked out of his bedroom, the tone of his voice didn’t sound harsh anymore.
I followed him quietly, he went to the bar section in the living room, dropped the photo on the table beside his glass, and filled it with his favorite whisky.
He just sat there and drank.
I watched him for a while, the gloomy look on his face remained. I leaned against the wall and sighed.
“Go home.” I heard his tired voice sounding from the other side. “Go to your mate.” He added and drank from his whiskey.
I opened my mouth and then shut it.
“Do you want to stay for dinner?”
I stepped out from the corner, I was hiding and he was staring at me.
I shook my head at him, he nodded and took his gaze back to the glass of whiskey.
He ruffled his hair and breathed out deeply, his fingers played around the brim of the glass, and his eyes kept low. “I don’t know what I will do to you, Janine. I shouldn’t see you, that’s why I want you to leave.” He spoke calmly.
I walked briskly out of the Baron's house and shut the door behind me. I was still holding the strange hair I got from his comb, and I was taking it to the hospital.
I stopped at the pack hospital and was in search of Doctor James, he was the one who found me, in the hospital hallway, and called my name.
“...Janine, I thought it was you, and I was right.” He chuckled, he was holding a cup of coffee, and his other hand tucked into the pocket of his lab coat.
“You came looking for me?”
I nodded and gave him the strands of hair I got from Baron.
He took it from my hand. “You want me to run a test on it? With you?” He asked and narrowed his gaze at me. I pointed my at finger my chest, and his widened but he nodded slowly.
“You got something?”
I nodded again.
“I will get it done for you, and then I will email the report to you in a few days. Is that okay?” He asked.
I smiled at him, he was making it all easy for me. He patted my hair and sauntered along the hallway.
I went back to Kaden’s home, and when I turned on my phone, there were a couple of messages from Kaden. There was a box on the bed, probably the dress Kaden mentioned that he got for me.
The concert must’ve started before I got ready, and I haven’t responded to any of Kaden’s messages yet.
I got dressed in the short white dress with a strap hand, I wore a jacket over it and let down my hair.
I sighed and stared at myself in the mirror, I didn’t want to look pale at the concert. I rubbed my cheeks with both hands and smiled at the mirror.
I left the house and went to the concert. It was crowded when I got there, I did recognize most of the faces, they were all from our school.
I shoved past them, searching for Kaden in the large hall.
The band was settling their things in front of the stage, and they were going to start soon.
I smacked my lips and glanced around the spot where I was standing.
I tapped my feet anxiously on the ground, I didn’t know where Kaden was, and I was certain he came here to the concert, and there was a party after the concert.
“Janine!” Kaden called, and I snapped my head around, he was in a hurry toward me, pushing off the people blocking his path. “You came. I was getting worried, I thought you wouldn’t be able to come and why weren’t you taking your calls? You didn’t reply to any of my messages either. That’s why I gave you a phone Janine so I can always know what you’re up to...”
I frowned at that, I could take care of myself.
He sighed. “I’m just worried about you, Janine.” His hands left my shoulders and rested on my cheeks, they were warm.
“Smile at me.” He muttered and cradled my cheek with his fingers. My lips stretched out like a cat smile.
He chuckled and took his hands from my cheek. He brought a necklace out of his pocket walked behind me and wore the necklace on me.
I touched the necklace with my forefingers and smiled. His hand was around my shoulders, and he pointed a finger at the necklace initials.
It has the letter K on it, and a heart sign and J was beneath it. “Do you want to know what it means?” He asked.
I nodded.
'K loves J.'
I caressed the necklace with my fingers, and he spun me around to face him.
“Can you dance?”
I shook my head, and he chuckled and took my hand. “Just follow my lead, don’t think about anything and just focus on me.”
The band started playing, and Kaden danced, his body grooved to the beat in effortless swag, I laughed, though there was no sound coming out of my mouth but my smile widened, and he made me follow his dance steps, my hips swiveled, arms waved,
and our heads nodded in perfect syncopation.
The sound of the beat slowed, and his hand sneaked around my waist and pulled me close to his body.
His hands were wrapped around my waist and knotted in front of me, and he lowered his head to kiss the mark on my neck. “I missed you so much it was as if I couldn’t breathe.”
