Chapter 45 - A night with you II
Janine.
I didn’t know what to do or how I was going to respond to Kaden’s words. I was facing him while he rested his forehead against mine. I looked down at my feet, and he stared down as well, and let out a soft chuckle.
“Are you nervous?” He asked, and his hand slid to my waist, and he gently guided my hips in the direction he wanted me to move. “You shouldn’t be nervous Janine, you’re here with me, and I don’t want you to see anyone else. Just keep your eyes on me.”
I looked up, caught his sparkling eyes, and nodded.
I moved with him, he spun me around, and his hands went to my back and he pulled me closer and I leaned into him.
My eyes are closed, and I’m inhaling the scent of him as we slow-danced.
Kaden lifted his hand to the back of my head and lowered his mouth to my ear, his touch gave me tingling feelings. “Do you want to stop?” He whispered.
I shook my head softly.
I liked dancing with Kaden, and I did hope it would be the same for our prom night.
He pulled me into his chest and rested his chin on the top of my head, I had the chance to close my eyes and breathe him in again.
He twirled me around, and I was facing his chest.
He chuckled and wrapped my hands around his neck, and his hands went back to the position on my waist. I rested my head against his chest. We didn’t speak, and we didn’t stop dancing, he just held me in his arms, till the song ended and cheers erupted in the hall.
“...I thought I would find you here.” We heard a voice behind us, I took my arms away from Kaden’s neck, and his hands left my waist.
Dale cleared his throat. “Hi, Janine care for a drink?” He stretched out a red cup towards me, and Kaden snatched it from his hand and drank it.
“Go away.” He hissed.
“I was offering that to Janine, it’s juice.” Dale was staring at the empty red cup.
“Hah! Like I would trust you.”
Dale rolled his eyes at Kaden, and he turned to me. “It’s fun right?”
I nodded with a smile.
I was aware of the school band but I had never seen them perform before, they were four of them including the lead singer.
Someone pushed me and intentionally poured a drink on my dress. I jerked forward as the content spilled over my body.
She gasped as if she didn’t have any idea what she did and didn’t even utter any apology like I was invisible.
I dabbed my dress with my hand to remove the stain but made it worse.
“Kaden, I have been looking everywhere for you, you left our space.” The girl grinned and shoved me aside, standing next to Kaden.
“Sarah!” Kaden glared at the red-haired girl trying to act all innocent. “Apologize for what you did.”
Sarah shrugged. “Isn’t she dumb as well? Why should I apologize to someone like her, I heard as time goes on, she might not hear or speak.” Sarah giggled.
“Kaden you know I have always been there for you. We were best partners in everything, even in your bedroom...”
I didn’t want to listen to what she was saying to Kaden, and I didn’t need someone like her to apologize to me.
“Janine!”
I heard Kaden calling me but I was making haste to leave the hall. I started hearing voices around me, everyone had something to say about Janine as if I wasn’t the one they were talking about.
“...she thinks she’s got it all because she’s Kaden’s mate.”
“Poor girl doesn’t know what’s gonna come for her, once a body will always be a nobody.”
“I never knew she existed in our school, she’s not even pretty.”
Everywhere I turned, I heard whispers.
“...she betrayed the family that adopted her and took care of her for years. She turned her back on time, a sly witch. Stephane was right about her and...”
I felt someone’s hand on my ears, blocking the voices. He didn’t say a word and gently led me out of the hall.
His hands left my ears when we came out of the hall, and he led me towards the fountains beside the building.
“You don’t have to listen to that.” He said, and I stared at his back. “They are just jealous of you, you’re with the Alpha and will get to be Luna someday. It’s what they mostly wished for.”
I exhaled, I don’t know what Stephane was planning but spreading lies about me was something she could do.
Calus tilted his head to the side and smiled.
“I realized why you were always with your AirPod.”
I didn’t expect to see him here tonight.
“Wondering why I came here?” He asked and took some water from the fountain in his hand, he sprinkled it on my body, and I chuckled and jumped.
“It’s cold?”
I nodded.
“I wanted to see you smile, you look beautiful when you do.” He looked away tucked his hands in his pocket, moved away from the fountain, and stood before me. He wore stripe-sleeved black pants and an inner white t-shirt, his sleeves weren’t buttoned.
“I came to see you, you weren’t in school yesterday. I heard Kaden will be at the concert, I thought he would bring you along. I’m glad you’re...”
A fierce hand grabbed his collar and pushed him away from me. “I warned you to stay away!” Kaden snarled at him. I thought Calus was going to fight back but he didn’t. He stared at Kaden for a moment, and his eyes went over to me. “I will see around.”
He walked a few miles and then halted. “You should take care of your girl. It’s the last time I will say it.”
“Is that a warning?” Kaden asked and was about to go after Calus. I held his hand and pulled him back.
Calus smirked and left.
Kaden groaned before he turned to me.
“Are you okay? I’m sorry about earlier, I have to take care of a few things in there before I come out to look for you. I already told you, you can’t trust Calus.” He exhaled when he realized he was speaking too fast.
He held my face with both hands and placed a kiss on my forehead. “And about Sarah, it was just a fling and I warned her...”
I placed a finger on his mouth and shook my head.
I don’t want him to talk about her.
“I’m sorry, I just didn’t want to hide anything from you.” He muttered and hugged me. “...I will take you home.”
He carried me to the car and asked his driver to take us home. He didn’t let go of him or say a word during the ride home.
He Kaden took me upstairs when we got home.
“Can I be selfish tonight?” He asked when we got to his front door. I blinked my eyes at him. “Stay with me tonight.”
