Chapter 124

Chapter 124
Katherine P.O.V
In the car Grace keeps looking at her daughter who is driving, so that she missed so many years of her daughter life. Living with her real father it’s probably too much for her and she was working and trying out of trouble but she didn’t go into collage. Katherine takes a quick look at her mother looking at her.
“What is it mother?
Grace’s voice trembled slightly. “You have grown so much. I am sorry that I missed out on your life. Your real father and his new wife made your life a living hell with their step-daughter Skye,” she said, her eyes filled with regret and tenderness.
“Mom, listen I am alright. Plus, I rarely be home with them that why I work most job at the age 15, bosses would feel bad and would pay me under the table. I even work for some of the supernatural. I would save money to get car, even take trips out of the state. Your ex-husband doesn’t know that I have that type of money in my account. Also, he tries to marry me off with a older man lucky Anthony stop him from that even happen,”
“How do you feel about Anthony can’t remember you?”
“Mom, he can move on with his life and found someone that can love him. Plus the children will be alright,”
Grace hesitated, her fingers drumming lightly on the dashboard. “One more question,” she said softly, glancing over at Katherine with concern.
“Sure,”
“Did you have boyfriend before Anthony?”
Sigh “Yes, I did but he is an ex now because Skye has been sleeping with him and even propose to her,”
“I see,”
Katherine kept driving toward the mall called Paradise Plaza, her hands steady on the wheel. Suddenly, her cellphone buzzed and she glanced at it, seeing Dr. Robert’s name appear on the screen. In that moment, she remembered she had left him a message about the medical supplies she wanted sent over to the pack who planned to open clinics and hospitals. Her mind raced as she prepared to answer, realizing how important this call could be for their future.
“Mom, can you push the called button for me,”
“Sure,”
Grace pushes the button and Dr. Robert voice came though the phone.
“Hello, Katherine’s I got your called. You need medical supplies?”
“Yes, my father – in – law Lord Frances need some of medical supplies,”
“Wait.. did you say Lord Fracnes,”
“Yes, do you know him?”
“Yes, I do. Tell me what you need?”
“Some of pack want to open their own clinics and hospital and they need some medical if you have anything that is up-to-date,”
“Yes, I have so much of medical supplies, even machines because other hospital doesn’t want them because they have high end supplies,” Dr. Robert replied, his tone reassuring. “Most of it is still in great condition, so I can easily provide what you need.”
“I will give you his number and you can give him the details,” Katherine offered, her voice calm but hopeful. “That way, you two can coordinate directly for the supplies he needs.”
“Thank you,”
Katherine quickly read out Dr. Robert’s contact information, then ended the call. She kept driving, focused on the road ahead, while Grace gazed out the window, watching cars speed past them. As they approached the mall, Katherine searched for a parking spot near the first entrance, hoping to find one close so they wouldn’t have to walk far. Katherine turns off the car and they exist out of the car and closed the door; she locked the doors before walking toward mall door. Just walking around the mall Katherine saw a store she wants to check out.
“What let check out this store?”
“Alright,”
As Katherine walked inside, she saw rows of pots, dishes, plates—everything you’d need for a home. She and Grace wandered through the aisles, Katherine eyeing a new pot she thought would be perfect for making soup and curry as the weather turned colder. She picked up two pots, one light and one dark, and placed them in the cart, planning to show her mother who had wandered to the other side of the store.
Katherine kept browsing, her gaze catching on the last sewing machine nestled at the end of the shelf. Inspiration struck—she imagined making blankets, cloth bibs, and little things for the house. Just as she reached out to grab it, an older lady swooped in and snatched it first, quickly putting it in her cart. Katherine paused, surprised and a little disappointed, as the woman moved away with the sewing machine.
“Sorry miss, I saw it first,” said Katherine
“But I grab it first, plus my daughter need for school,” said the lady, her tone defensive as she clutched the sewing machine tighter in her cart. She glanced at Katherine, determination in her eyes, unwilling to let go of her claim.
“Well, nice, but I want that sewing machine,”
“It’s mine, I got it first. Plus, you look poor—there’s no way you can afford this machine,” the lady said sharply, her words stinging as she glared at Katherine.
Grace noticed the tense exchange between Katherine and the woman from across the aisle. Instinctively, she began moving toward them, her pace quickening as she realized her daughter needed support. She reached Katherine’s side and stood close, offering a steady presence while Katherine faced the woman.
“Honey, what is going on?” said Grace
“I was about to go and grab the sewing machine off the selves then she grabs plus she called us poor,” said Katherine
“Hun, let her take it. We found another one,”
“Yes, listen to your mother,”
Therefore, the woman walked away with the sewing machine in the cart and, not wanting to start any trouble, Grace and Katherine kept walking around to see if there was anything else they might want. They browsed through different aisles, pausing to look over a selection of dishes and considering all the things they could use at home. Eventually, they made their way toward the checkout area, arms full of their chosen items. As they approached, they noticed the same woman at the register, about to pay for her purchase, the sewing machine prominently on the counter.
The cashier rang up her total, and the woman confidently swiped her card—but to her surprise, the machine flashed "declined." She tried another card, and then another, each one failing, her face growing more frustrated with each attempt. There was almost a sense of irony as Katherine and Grace watched; it was almost amusing how the woman who had been so determined to claim the sewing machine now couldn't pay for it. The woman’s frustration boiled over, and she started accusing the cashier of stealing her money by making her swipe so many times. Just then, the manager emerged from the back to see what was causing the commotion.
The cashier quickly summarized the situation to the manager, detailing how each card had been declined again. The woman, clearly frustrated, called her husband and put him on speaker, her voice rising as she explained she couldn’t use her card. The entire store could hear her husband as he abruptly cut her off, prompting the woman to start yelling at him in front of everyone. With no way to pay, she left all her items—including the sewing machine—behind and stormed out of the store, her face red with embarrassment.
Katherine realized this was her moment. She approached the counter, placed her chosen items down, and caught sight of the sewing machine sitting behind the cashier. Hope sparked within her—maybe, after all the drama, she’d finally have a chance to bring the sewing machine home.
“Miss, I have that sewing machine,”
“You want it?”
“Yes, please,”
The cashier scans the sewing machine with the other objects after paying all their things then Katherine notices they have locked box then look at the sign. That this store will keep your things in the locked box until you finish shopping. So she went over the box, pay for the storage box and put her things and her mother bag inside and it locked and give her a card with a number on it and barcode on the bottom. Katherine put into her purse and walked out of the store to check something else out. Grace pulled Katherine into the clothes store to look at some clothes knowing that Katherine won’t be wearing but she did remember that Anthony birthday is coming up soon so buying one dress won’t hurt. They looking around then Katherine saw a dress with off the shoulder the bottom is nice full but the only problem is that it’s was pink as she look around for different there wasn’t there. Until a young lady came up to them to see Katherine looking at the dress.
“Do you like that dress?” asked young lady
“Yes, I do but I wish it was blue or purple,”
“Oh, wait let me check in the back,”
“Okay,”
Katherine keeps looking around and her mother wrap her around Katherine then look around and smiles until the lady come back to Katherine with blue one then show it to her.
“Thank you,”
“It’s the last one we have,”
“Thank you, I will buy it now,”
“Good come to the counter,”
Katherine pay for the dress and thanks the woman heading out of the store then her mother one her to the jewelry store, Grace look around so did Katherine. What caught her eye was a blue crystal pendant wolf, it’s will be the best gift for Anthony. A man came up to Katherine with a smile then Katherine turns around to her mother pick out a gift too.
“Yes, how much is this pendant?”
“We just got that in but it seems that nobody doesn’t want it because the crystal doesn’t come in no different color. I would say for you $900; you will pay with cash or card?”
“Card,”
Katherine gives the man her card so he can check her check her out as she is waiting her mother came over to her with her little gift.
“It’s for dad?”
“How did you know?”
“It’s a lucky guess,”
The man came back with her card and handed it back to her. Katherine put her card back into her purse while the man wrapped her gift, then handed her the bag with a friendly smile. Katherine thanked him and glanced at her mother, who was admiring her own purchase. Both ladies left the store with all their shopping bags and made their way to the snack cart to grab something to eat. The aroma of fresh pastries and sandwiches filled the air as they looked over the options, chatting about their gifts and the rest of the afternoon plans.
