Chapter 194 Face-to-Face Warning

Chapter 194 Face-to-Face Warning

No matter what Richard said, the officer refused to believe him and had him locked up directly.

Meanwhile, Hannah was anxiously waiting for good news. Before long, she came across the latest video online.

After seeing the content recorded by netizens, she couldn't help but feel relieved—she'd made the right move after all.

However, she soon learned that Evelyn was fine, only injured and under observation, while Richard had been locked up instead.

Realizing she might be exposed, Hannah grew restless and immediately went to the police station to visit Richard.

The moment they met, Richard looked at her as if she were his lifeline. "My dear daughter, please find a way to get me out of here. I really don't want to stay in this place. I don't even know what happened to me. How could I have done something so foolish?"

Seeing Richard's remorseful expression, Hannah's eyes showed great sympathy, but inwardly she felt increasingly annoyed.

She'd thought he could accomplish something, but not only had he failed, he'd landed himself back in prison.

However, judging by his reaction, he didn't seem to know exactly what had happened. Hannah's anxious heart finally settled.

"I believe you. I'll definitely find a way to get you out, but they're investigating strictly right now. This matter must be thoroughly examined."

"But rest assured, I'll find a way to save you."

Hearing Hannah's words, disappointment flickered in Richard's eyes. He'd thought her arrival meant he could leave, never expecting he'd still be detained here.

Hannah seemed to read his thoughts and whispered a reminder, "Evelyn is the victim in this case. If we can't get her forgiveness and can't explain the drug residue detected in your system, then forget about getting you out—you'll probably face several more years in prison."

Hearing this, Richard's expression grew dejected as he lowered his head, his emotions becoming complicated.

Hannah had said this deliberately. She wanted Richard to believe it wasn't that she wouldn't save him, but that Evelyn refused to relent.

Besides, only with Richard locked up here could she remain safe.

It seemed her previous plan to kill two birds with one stone wouldn't work out after all.

"Visiting time is over."

Before they could exchange more than a few words, Richard was led away.

Hannah watched him being taken away, pretending to shed a few tears. Once he disappeared, the sympathetic expression on her face vanished completely.

Shortly after, Hannah arrived at the hospital and found Evelyn's room. As soon as she entered, she saw Evelyn and Leona inside.

"What are you doing here? No one welcomes you."

Before Evelyn could speak, Leona suddenly stood up, wanting to drive her out.

Hannah merely laughed coldly, not taking her seriously at all. "I heard you were injured, so I came specifically to check on you. Why are you so on edge?"

Seeing her mocking attitude, Leona's anger flared.

Originally, the two had been puzzled by Richard's sudden appearance, but now Hannah's presence explained everything.

Even without evidence, they could conclude this matter was definitely related to Hannah.

"Wait outside for me," Evelyn said to Leona, knowing Hannah wouldn't appear without reason.

"Alright, I'll be right outside. If anything happens, just call and I'll come in."

Before leaving, Leona didn't forget to glare fiercely at Hannah.

After she left, Evelyn studied Hannah for a long moment. It was still that face she despised, yet something seemed different from before.

"Hannah, your days haven't been easy lately either, have they?"

Evelyn's words made her expression change instantly. Hannah's anger erupted as she lowered her voice and said viciously, "Why did you have to come back? Didn't you already have so much in Celestria? You came back just to strike at me, to watch me suffer, didn't you?"

"Evelyn, I thought you were as innocent and kind as you appeared on the surface. Turns out you're full of malice too."

Watching Hannah's hysterical display, Evelyn looked at her as if she were a fool.

She shook her head helplessly, truly unable to understand what was going on in Hannah's mind.

"Hannah, do you think all your current misfortunes are because of me?"

"Aren't they?"

Seeing her speak so righteously, throwing all the blame onto her, Evelyn didn't get angry—instead, she laughed.

"Don't you realize your life is a joke?"

As she spoke, Evelyn stood up and approached her step by step. "Let me tell you, I go wherever I want. I've never intended to compete with you. You're the one who twisted everything."

"From beginning to end, you've been paranoid, constantly comparing yourself to others, constantly scheming."

"Your current predicament is entirely your own doing, yet you push all the blame onto others. Does that give you peace of mind?"

Hannah retorted sharply, "You're lying! If not for you, how could I have ended up like this? You deliberately opposed me at every turn, always trying to outdo me. Now you're pretending to be so selfless?"

Evelyn stopped arguing. Words were wasted on her.

"I won't waste my breath on you, but judging by your appearance, these days haven't been easy for you either. Where's your godmother?"

Hearing her suddenly mention Layla, Hannah's expression changed dramatically.

Ever since Layla had returned to Celestria, the two had completely lost contact. Everything had to go through the estate manager as an intermediary.

But she knew Layla wouldn't cut off contact without reason.

The longer it went on, the more uneasy she felt. Yet she hadn't expected Evelyn to know about this.

"What does that have to do with you?"

Hannah remained defiant, but her feeble bravado had long been seen through by Evelyn.

"Indeed, it has nothing to do with me." Evelyn sneered, looking her up and down with contempt in her eyes. "I'm just reminding you—if something really happened to Layla, then your backing will collapse."

Evelyn's words struck Hannah's painful spot, yet she remained verbally aggressive. "Stop your nonsense. My affairs are none of your concern."

"Don't say I didn't warn you. If you go back to Celestria now, we can end our grievances here."

Just as she finished speaking, Leona suddenly pushed the door open. Seeing the two standing there so calmly, she found it hard to believe.

"It's time for lunch. Or should I keep you here?"

Clearly she was driving her out. Hannah ignored her and turned to leave.
