Chapter 44 Betrayal

Chapter 44 Betrayal
Theo
I woke up feeling really energized and it’s mainly because I sort of have gotten some headway. Since I made up my mind to fix things for Grace’s sake, I’ve taken active steps that have now yielded results.
“Heyy, hope you haven’t forgotten our meeting this morning?” I asked over the phone. It’s my private investigator, I reached out to him to get more in-depth information and we agreed to meet this morning.
“No, I’ll be there in time.” He affirmed and I hung up.
I rushed through my morning routine and in no time, I was ready to head out. I got to the hotel’s reception and it was a new lady there.
After the issue with at home, I had to leave and I’ve been staying at the hotel. It has been quite nice, though I have to put up with the ladies at the reception always drooling and trying to get close to me. I found a way to keep them at arm’s length and it seemed to work until now.
The new lady stared at me so long that I had to give a soft tap on the desk, before she came back to.
“Oh I’m so sorry, sir. I was just carried away by… you.” She smiled at me and even though her expression seemed really funny, I maintained a straight look. I didn’t want to give the impression that I was available for whatever she had in mind.
“That’s okay, are you new here?” I asked and she nodded with yet another smile.
“Yes… actually that’s not true. I only took some time away to sort out some things. I’m fully back to work now. Are you staying for long here?” She asked.
“I’m not sure. It’s good to have you back anyway… uhm… this is my key. I’d like the room cleaned before I’m back please.” I said and then turned to leave but she stopped me.
“It’s Tim… my name is Timara. But you can call me Tim, that’s what my close friends call me.” She chimed in and I nodded.
I walked off wondering why she would think we are close friends just because we spoke for a second.
I got in my car and drove off. I was soon at the park and it was easy to find Don. He chose a well hidden spot, it was in plain sight but had some illusion that made it the perfect spot.
We got straight to business as he handed me an envelope. I opened it and went through it contents. I was so shocked but it only got worse with each page that I flipped.
“Oh my God, this is so much worse than I thought. Are you sure about this?” I asked sternly while he nodded, maintaining a hardened straight look.
I didn’t ask because I doubted him, I trust him so much. He has never failed or given a false information. I only asked because I was shocked. I knew my family is messed up and can do a lot of unimaginable stuff, but this was just a new low for them.
“Collins might have made some bad decisions but the embezzlement isn’t entirely his fault. As you can see in the file, I traced it back to a shell corporation owned by your father. And your brother, Matt is also a major shareholder.” He explained while I flipped through the pages again like I hadn’t seen it already.
It finally became very clear to me. My dad has always envied the Collins’ company which is belongs to Grace’s family. My dad wanted it for himself but couldn’t get it or Collins probably wouldn’t let him. He then came up with a plan which involved Collins investing blindly in a project not knowing it was all a carefully planned scam.
To him, it was a bad decision that sank the company and when he couldn’t find a way out of the trouble, my dad reached out. He made himself look like the perfect savior, coming to save his company in exchange for an arranged marriage with Grace.
Collins gets the money to pay back his debts while my dad gets the major share in the company. That way, he gets what he wants without the truth ever getting out.
I felt so much disgust in me as I couldn’t take the fact that the man I call a father could do this. I felt so ashamed knowing I have his blood running through my veins. I mean, this is a man who betrayed his best friend in such a shameful manner. And to think he dragged Matt into this evil too. He should have just done it all by himself but then, he needed help and he has always taken Matt as the real heir. It’s just natural that the two of them have such evil in them.
“That’s not all, you should check the last two pages.” Don chimed in and I quickly went to check.
My eyes became so big they could fall out of their sockets. Sometime ago, Matt happened to get photos of Grace and I kissing from an anonymous. My face weren’t shown and that got Matt angry because Grace wouldn’t reveal who the man was.
Grace and I never knew how the person got the photos and we tried to be careful afterward.
Now staring at the file in my hand, I can clearly see that the anonymous sender was none other than my own assistant, Sarah.
“Apparently, Matt is having an affair with her and she saw it as an opportunity to win his trust and get him all to herself.” Don explained and I didn’t know when I burst into laughter.
I was filled with so much shock that the only way my brain could think of expressing it was to laugh, and it was a good one.
“You did well, Don. I’ll take it from here.” I said to him as I took my phone and transferred some money to him.
“I just sent you your balance. I’ll reach out when next I need you.” I let out…
