Chapter 114

Chapter 114

Khan

"What happens if the weapon proves more powerful than we anticipated? How will I face Dianna and the children?" Fenris said. I scoffed and continued my way outside. Farkas went ahead of us to set things up. Although he was saying I shouldn't go ahead with it but his face was saying otherwise. He couldn't hide his excitement at the thought of seeing the latest weapon in use.

"Come on brother, let us think this well." He added and he might not know it but I love it whenever he refers to me as a brother.

"Where is the adventure in you, come let's see what the weapon can do." We stepped outside and I was surprised to see every soldier on the walls waiting to see what would happen.

"How news flies." I said.

"I am sure that it was Farkas that spread the news." Fenris didn't like the fact that many people were around to see it.

"I hope this doesn't get to Dianna's ears just yet." I looked at the weapon and it had already been set in the tower. It is bigger than I thought.

"It is bigger than I anticipated." I muttered.

"Are you changing your mind?" Fenris smirked thinking that I will chicken out.

"No, I am more competitive than ever." I smiled then spoke in a loud voice, not for the wolves but the humans and the heretics to hear it.

"You all have gathered here to watch the showdown between your King and this man made machine. I hope you won't be disappointed." They all cheered and I hope they can keep it down.

"Farkas, shoot this boulder first." Farkas did as Fenris instructed and shot the boulder.

From the shot, I noticed two scary things about the arrow. The first is that the speed was remarkable and it is the fastest thing I have ever seen. The second one is that the force was powerful enough to penetrate the boulder without shattering it.

"Woah, that is a scary shot." I swallowed and felt glad that Fenris asked Farkas to target the boulder first. I would have underestimated it if not for the first shot.

"Are you ready?" Farkas asked.

"As I can be." Fenris stepped away from me and I allowed my ambience to sip out of my body. I needed to show them how powerful I have become since the last time they saw me. The moment my ambience covered the whole space, the surprise look on their faces was satisfying.

"Here it comes."

Farkas released the arrow with a smile and I realized I have two options. The first option is the easiest and that is to move out of the way. The second option which is the hardest is to forcefully stop it. I smiled as I went for the second option since it will make me show them how powerful I am.

The arrow came to me with full force and I stopped it with both hands before it reached my heart. I stopped just an inch away from my heart. I made sure not to move a step back and resist the force that the arrow came with.

"Wow!" Fenris was forced to say when I stopped the arrow. I dropped the iron arrow and looked at my throbbing palm.

"It is really a lethal weapon." I said and looked up to Farkas with a smile showing how proud I am of my strength. My smile died the moment I saw Dianna standing beside him and her face made me realize I am in big trouble. After looking at me, she turned back and left. Farkas looked more petrified than he was when I defeated him. He must have sensed the killing intent of Dianna.

"Ouch, you are in trouble." Fenris sighed.

"Tell me what I don't know." All the soldiers left one after the other and I felt betrayed. Since the show is over, they do not need to stay. I left Fenris and went after Dianna.

"Wait please." She ignored me and kept going her way. She went inside our room and I followed her. The moment I entered, a vase was flying in my way and I grabbed it. She threw another at me and I caught it with my free hand then dodge the next one. She kept throwing things at me angrily so I rushed to her and stopped her.

"Stop, you are going to hurt yourself." I said.

"Hurt myself? When you are faced with the strongest man-made weapon, you don't think you would hurt yourself."

"I can handle it and that is why I did it." I reasoned with her but she wasn't having any of it.

"How stupid is it that you wanted to release yourself from the upcoming war." Tears were already falling from her eyes and I hugged her close and consoled her. I cursed whatever took the news to her.

"I will not do that again."

"You better not," she mumbled and I smiled.

"It has been a long time since we went to our favorite spot." She said and her eyes radiated as she smiled at me.

"You are such a child."

"No, I have two children now, so I am not a child. If I were a child, would I kiss you like this?" She leaned up and took my lips in a passionate kiss. She is definitely the best gift in my life.

"When I went out to train, I could feel your longing for me. Many times I wanted to leave the training and come running to you."

"I would have chased you back." She bit her lower lips.

"Are you about that?" She nodded.

"But, your body says otherwise." My voice came out lower than expected.

"You know, we were in the middle of something before the children walked in." She stood on top of my feet. She started doing that just a week before I left for training. She would always stand on my toes and ask me to walk around carrying her.

"What if the children walk in?" I was already taking her to the bed.

"They are in their uncle's house." She replied.

I don't care which uncle's house they went to. I know they are safe wherever they are and also, I am glad they are not around because I don't need a disturbance in what I am about to do.

Dead bodies went as far as I could see. Fear gripped my heart as I saw the dead bodies of Fenris and Farkas. Right to left, front and back, all I could see was death. I could feel that Anu Ukwu has fallen and our enemies have won. I blamed myself for not being there for them. I can't even think of the reason why I abandoned them in their time of need.

"Dianna, Dianna!"

I yelled but no answer, fear didn't let me search the corpses. I just had to keep running to the Palace with the hopes of finding her and my children. I ran past thousands of corpses and they all seemed familiar. Even the ones I have met before, I could feel they were connected to me.

My heart throbbed uncontrollably and feared that I would not be able to make it on time. I tried to increase my speed as I heard her scream but I felt I was being dragged down by the weight of the world. My feet can't go any faster than a human, tears rolled down my eyes and I cursed myself for being weak. All my training and preparation was for nothing. Finally, I was able to get to her but my enemy seemed to be ahead of me. First Khan had her by the throat and with just a move of his hand, he would kill her.

"With all your powers, you couldn't even save her."

He smiled at me and snapped her neck. I screamed and woke up from sleeping sweating profusely. I looked beside me and Dianna sleeping and she wasn't even disturbed by my ratting. I sighed in relief, leaned down and kissed her.

"This is the difference between the two of us." I turned to the voice and saw First Khan leaning over the window. I wonder how long he has been there.

"Don't be alarmed, even myself let my guard down when I am next to my mate." He added and I guess he understood my dilemma.

"What difference are you talking about and why are you here?" I stood between him and Dianna as I noticed his attention was on her.

"Our difference is that your nightmare ends when you wake up." He looked back at me and then to the moon. His gesture reminded me that we have only a few days left.

"Don't you?" I asked.

"No, I dream while I sleep, nightmares are for my waking hours." She shrugged and I wondered what he had been through.

"Walk with me child." He leaped out of the window and I followed him.

I followed him and he led me deep into the snowy mountains. I have never been to this side of the South before. I now wonder if it should be called Anu Ukwu Nation or not.

"You are surprised how close it is, yet you have never thought of coming inside right?" I refused to answer but kept following him. In the twilight, we arrived at a cave and he sighed.

"Just in time." He said.

"For what?" I asked in surprise.

"Let's step inside first." He went inside the cave and I followed him.

"I am surprised you came with me without a protest. Are you not scared that I might have laid an ambush for you?" I scoffed.

"That is something I wouldn't do if there are any similarities between the two of us. Then, it is also something you wouldn't do." He nodded and he led me to the center of the cave where the morning light had entered through the center opening of the cave.

"What is that?" I asked as I looked at the frozen corpse in the middle of the cave. I slowly went closer as I was drawn to the corpse. It seemed surreal and almost magical.

"She was my mate." He replied and the sadness laced in his voice was heavy but I could dwell on it, I saw the face of the corpse.

"Dianna?" I murmured.

"That is Xena, my mate." He came and stood beside me.

"Isn't it fascinating, the resemblance is…."

"Unbelievable." I completed the words and I am unable to remove my eyes away from her. She looked exactly like my Dianna.

"She was my mate and in that way, the mother of all Khans. There is something that the heretics believe in, reincarnation. I never thought much about it, but seeing your mate, I realize that they are actually right."
