Chapter 140

Chapter 140

After saying this, Aiden didn't even glance at Bronte. He rushed over to Delilah and bowed respectfully. "Ms. Roberts, I'm Aiden, the head of the Taylor family. I never expected you'd not only come to treat the children, but also stay at Emily's place. There are some things about Emily you might not be aware of. Over the years, she's mostly stayed home taking care of the kids and hasn't really been involved in the business side of things. I put her in charge of the company as president and arranged for her to stay at Heights Apartments to toughen her up a bit. So the conditions over there are pretty rough, and I'm sure staying with her has been quite inconvenient for you."

He then turned to Daniel with a serious look. "Daniel, call Juniper right now and have her get the master bedroom ready, plus two guest rooms. This afternoon, have Emily's family and Ms. Roberts move in with you. And make sure you take good care of Ms. Roberts when she arrives. I don't want her feeling the slightest bit uncomfortable."

Bronte was stunned.

Delilah? Could this young woman really be the Delilah from Bloody Prison? And how was it possible that Delilah was staying at Emily's place just to treat two kids?

Once Bronte realized something was seriously wrong, she reacted fast. She scrambled up from the floor and crawled on her knees to Delilah. "Ms. Roberts, are you really Ms. Roberts? I'm so sorry. I was completely blind to who you were. Please forgive me."

Delilah frowned and turned her head away, not wanting to look at her.

Seeing Delilah's reaction, Aiden knew she was still furious at Bronte. Knowing full well how dangerous Delilah could be, he raised his cane and brought it down hard on Bronte.

Once. Twice. Three times.

Bronte's head was bleeding. She trembled all over and curled up on the floor, shaking uncontrollably.

"Father, stop, please stop! I admit I offended Ms. Roberts, but Emily made a mistake too! She gave William nearly three million dollars. Father, aren't you going to look into that?"

Aiden's brow furrowed. He stopped and glared at Bronte. "I'll deal with whatever Emily did in a moment. But you — you need to answer for what you've done first! You had the nerve to run your mouth like that right in front of Ms. Roberts. You're lucky Ms. Roberts is a bigger person than you, otherwise you wouldn't even know how you died!"

He turned back to Delilah and bowed again. "Ms. Roberts, I'm truly sorry about all this. I failed to keep my family in line, and this disgraceful woman is the result. I promise you, starting today, I will keep a much tighter grip on everyone. If anyone from the Taylor family ever dares to disrespect you again, I will personally break their legs and throw them out of this family for good."

William spoke up quietly. "That's enough."

Delilah heard him and was about to step around Bronte and leave, when Layla, unable to read the room, frowned and said, "William, who do you think you are? Ms. Roberts hasn't even forgiven Aunt Bronte yet, and you're already telling Ms. Roberts what to do? You—"

Before she could finish, Delilah raised her hand and slapped Layla hard across the face.

With a sharp crack, Delilah lifted her foot and kicked Layla to the ground without hesitation, then planted her foot on Layla's chest and looked down at her with fury. "I've had enough of you! Who do you think you are? If you hadn't been stirring things up on purpose today, would any of this have happened? If you ask me, you're the worst one here!"

Then Delilah turned to Aiden and asked slowly and deliberately, "You're the one who calls the shots in the Taylor family, right?"

Aiden was caught off guard. He stared at Layla pinned under Delilah's foot, drew a sharp breath, and nodded. "Yes, that's me."

Delilah said plainly, "Good. You just said Ms. Taylor's current place is too small and cramped, and suggested that I move in with Ms. Taylor, Mr. Brown, and the kids. But here's the thing — I don't like living with strangers. So how about this: if you're a man of your word, have Daniel and the others temporarily move into the small place where Emily is living now, and let me, Mr. Brown, Ms. Taylor, and the kids move into the bigger house. How does that sound?"

Daniel stood there frozen. He'd come today hoping to get in Delilah's good graces, and instead he hadn't managed that at all — and now she was basically taking his house. What was going on?

He looked at William's calm expression and felt a surge of resentment. No wonder William had been willing to buy Delilah a car. He'd clearly known all along that she was someone important and had gotten close to her before any of them had the chance.

But with Aiden right there, Daniel couldn't let his frustration show. He licked his dry lips and glanced sideways at Aiden, hoping Aiden would put in a word for him.

But what Aiden said next killed any hope he had left.

"Daniel, did you hear Ms. Roberts? You, Juniper, and Heath will just have to rough it for a while and stay in Emily's current place."

Daniel's face went pale. He nodded slowly, looking miserable.

Delilah stepped forward and stared straight into Daniel's eyes. "You're not saying anything. Does that mean you're not willing to give up the house?"

Daniel shook his head quickly. "Of course not, Ms. Roberts! It would be an honor for the Taylor family to have you stay in our home. Don't worry — I'll move out as soon as we get back."

With that settled, Delilah turned to William with a smile. "What do you think?"

William had actually been planning to talk to Jeffrey in a couple of days about moving Emily and the kids to the castle. But since Delilah had already sorted out a new place, there was no reason to turn it down.

"Fine with me."

Delilah nodded, visibly relieved. She turned back to Daniel and waved her hand. "Alright then. Go home and start clearing out the rooms."

Daniel stood there with his mouth half open, wanting to say something but holding back.

Aiden pushed him. "Daniel, what are you standing around for? Go."
