Chapter 39 Chapter 39: The Unwanted Guest
Chapter 39: The Unwanted Guest
Vishiea’s POV
“Congratulations again, Lady Anastasia,” Liliane said while placing a drink on the table. They had also invited others whom I was not familiar with.
“Thank you, there’s actually no need to celebrate a small triumph,” I smiled at them. Liliane poured drinks into our glasses.
“Lady Anastasia, you didn’t just win. You also showed that bitch she can’t beat you. She was acting like she could easily win that game and even dared to challenge you.” Cassie said before drinking.
She was right. I never wanted to waste my time on someone like her; however, she was too foolish to think she could defeat me.
“Now she knows her place. Exactly where she belongs. A loser only using her position to gain fame and attention.” Liliane uttered. I smiled, knowing that after stealing Darius from me, she never gained the fame she wanted.
She really thought the Lycans would treat her nicely after what she did. However, she’s not the only one at fault. Darius welcomed Rachelle even though we were still in a relationship, even though they knew I was his mate.
Until now, I still couldn’t forget that day when I saw them flirting. I will never forget the betrayal and the pain they caused me.
Now that I have regained myself, I won’t make the same mistake again—and that is to be fooled by him.
“You hated Rachelle that much,” I told them, taking my glass and drinking.
“If you only knew her true colors. I wonder why the king replaced his mate with that bitch. She’s not even worth the position. She’s a bully—taking advantage of the wealth she doesn’t own.” Cassie blurted. I got confused because of what she said. What does she mean by that?
I didn’t expect Rachelle’s attitude to be worse than I thought.
She literally did something to make them hate her. Who are you really, Rachelle?
“What do you mean? Rachelle might be impulsive sometimes because she knows that the king is on her side. Yet I’ve never heard anything worse than that,” I told them, curious about Rachelle’s character.
Cassie rolled her eyes. Then she fixed her dress and sat like a man. I was surprised by how she acted.
I think she’s a little bit drunk right now.
“Years had passed. King Darius was in love with his mate. Everyone knew it, the palace knew it. Then one day, everyone in the kingdom was surprised to find out that Darius had broken up with his mate and chose that bitch over her. What was most disappointing was that her dad was killed and she was exiled. Since then, she never appeared and there was no news about her. After that, Rachelle took over the king’s mate position.” She explained. I was already well aware of what happened in the past.
“She’s too entitled to be the king’s fiancée. She’s rude. She wasn’t like that before, but she changed,” she added before drinking again.
“Give respect to the king,” someone announced. Everyone stood up and bowed.
What is he doing here?
“Your Majesty,” Cassie went to him. But his attention was on me.
Did he really come here to celebrate with us? Would a king waste his time for this simple party?
“I came here because I was invited.” He uttered, eyes still on me.
“You’re always welcome in our place, Your Majesty. Please have a seat,” Cassie offered, still standing and looking at him. He cleared his throat and looked at everyone, who was still surprised by his appearance.
“You can continue. Treat this night as a normal party with me,” he said while walking towards our table.
Can’t he feel that this party became awkward when he arrived?
Cassie talked to the servants and they started bringing various drinks to the table.
“Your Majesty, just tell us what you want and we’ll provide it with all our might,” Cassie told him. He just nodded his head and started to drink.
What does he think he’s doing? This could ruin his image.
“You seemed to have an unfinished discussion earlier. Would you mind sharing it with me?” he spoke. Cassie’s eyes widened. I could see how she gulped. Nathan wasn’t bothered at all; he just kept on drinking.
I didn’t want to drink recklessly because I knew I had low tolerance for alcohol.
“Ah… That’s uh… about that… we’re talking about the game earlier, Your Majesty. We were complimenting how good Lady Anastasia is in archery and using swords,” Liliane answered. Cassie nodded her head and smiled. He looked at me but I showed no interest at all. He just ruined the party.
“So, tell me. Where did you learn that?” He suddenly asked me. I feigned a smile. It would be rude if I didn’t answer him right now.
“Your Majesty, since I was a kid, Mother Kiara had been teaching me different things, including fighting and archery. I’ve grown competing with others, that’s why that game wasn’t new to me at all.” I answered him, trying to be formal.
“Really? How interesting. I’ve never actually seen the daughter of Kiara Cullen before. I wasn’t expecting that this is how she looks. You don’t look exactly like your mother.” His eyes met mine.
What is he trying to say now?
“That’s actually normal. I don’t even look like my mother, though we have similarities,” Liliane said, saving me tonight.
“She’s right, Your Majesty. However, I don’t look exactly like my mom, but I inherited some of her traits.” I answered him. He just looked at me, not letting his guard down.
I know he’s up to something again.
“She doesn’t actually look exactly like her mom, but Lady Anastasia has this undeniable beauty inside and out.” My attention shifted to Nathan as he said that. Suddenly, I felt my face heat up.
“Thank you, Knight Nathan,” I showed him a genuine smile.
Darius suddenly stood up, looking at me.
“Your Majesty,” Cassie stood up. However, Darius showed a disappointed look.
“I have to go now. I was only here to congratulate you. Enjoy the party,” he said and turned his back. I thought he was leaving the place already, but he stopped walking.
“Knight Nathan, report to me in the kingdom. I want you to do something,” he added before finally leaving the party.
