Chapter 71
Will's POV
When Nico alerted me to Kai's condition I already knew to call her doctor. Doctor Missandra has been looking after Kai since high school. She was supposed to give reports on Kai and her development to my father, but after examining her she told my father that unless Kai gave consent she wouldn't give him so much as a wellness report. Father tried to be reasonable with the woman, but she made it clear that her patients come first hanging up on him. Since then she has treated Kai anytime she's had an injury or needed any kind of medical care. Calling her I waited for her to answer the phone.
“Hello, Your Majesty, to what do I owe the pleasure of your call?” she asked politely. “Kai fainted in the hallway and she said she was feeling dizzy earlier. If you could get here ASAP I would appreciate it,” I said. “I'll be there in 10 minutes,” she said and hung up. Leaving my office a very confused Jace follows as I make my way to her rooms. Getting closer I feared the worst and pryaed to the goddess I was wrong. Walking in she's laying on her bed as if she is in a deep sleep with Nico sitting beside her. “What happened? She was only tired and hour ago,” I said sitting on her other side taking her hand.
Moments late the doctor walks in setting her bag on Kai's desk then walking over to check her over as she asked, “What happened? She's never been this sick. What has she been doing?” I began telling her all of what she suffered at the hands of the witches and the care she received with the Jaguar people. By the time I finished she had given her some potion pouring it down her throat then settling her as she moves away from the bed. Nico and I step over to her to hear her diagnosis, “She's malnourished and anemic. She needs to stay off her feet for the next few weeks or she will be come worse make sure she has plenty to eat and no strenuous exercise, even sex. Sorry fellas you need to give her a break, a real one,” she said packing up her bag then turning to us, “I will leave a recipe for her make sure she makes it even if she has a sour face about it.” With that she headed out the door leaving us with our sick and weak mate.
“We should have been paying better attention to her. She always keeps these things hidden. Why won't she say anything when she needs help?” I said out loud trying to figure her out better. “She didn't want us to worry and thought she would get better being home. Unfortunately she just didn't heal fast enough. We'll just have to keep a better watch on her from now on. That's all we can do,” Nico said sitting next to Kai to hold her hand again. He was right of course and he hadn't known her all that long either. While it irritated me to hear this from him even Hunter agreed that we needed to be closer to our mate.
*Will, I know you think you know her best, but she had to deal with your family by herself and everything they threw at her. You weren't there when she needed someone to have her back. That's why your hating his words. Do better now so that isn't all she remembers of us,* Hunter said settling into the back on my mind. Moving to sit next to her I lean in to brush her hair away from her face as she sleeps. How am I going to do this? I should do more. I thought trying to think of a way to mke up for all the years she didn't have me there to defend her.
Letting the wheels turn Jace finally approached me lean down saying, “I know this is important, but I did that errand you asked before the doctor got here. And we have a response.” I was surprised a reply came so fast. Looking to Nico I said, “Make sure she stays in bed. I need to take care of those witches we're having problems with.” A smile of satisfaction on his face with a nodded he understood what I was about to do.
Kissing her forehead I move out of the room with Jace to the conference room where the Witches Clan delegation waited for us. Diana at the front with three other witches wit her as my guard surrounded them. Thia showed up just as we were walking in with Kenna and Lysa in tow. “Now that we are all here lets get down to the bottom of what everyone is clearly trying to do. Diana keep your mouth shut until your daughter has said what she needs to say,” I said pointedly. She huffed then looked at her daughter waiting for her to speak. “I know you want things, mother, that I can't give you. And that you'll do anything to get them. Now I have to be honest for me and my mate,” Kenna said her mother looking shocked at the news, “As an Original the marriage agreement asked that a Royal mate with one of the two Originals of the Witch Clan. While mother would have preferred I mate your queen I never told her who Lysa was to me in case she had her killed just so I could fulfill her mission.” Kenna looked at Lysa the whole time who had tears in her eyes hearing this.
However Diana looked pissed as if she had lost a valuable treasure. “How could you Kenna? You know your destiny and you still let your emotions and some bond blind you from the ultimate goal for all witches? How can you do this to us?!” Diana screeched at her. “Our people are practically extinct and you think this will appease the Council?!” The witches behind her seemed to be whispering to themselves and my ears were ringing as well as the guards around the group. “What is this? What have you done?!” I asked dropping to the floor covering my ears. Lysa was on the floor with Kenna trying to chant as well to counter their attack.
“Give it up, Kenna! You know we have a greater purpose then keeping these wolves alive. Come home bring your pet and fulfill your destiny with us,” Diana said to her as Kenna kept chanting. Her eyes began to glow like Kai's did when she invoked her Originals bloodline the energy pushing the witches back as they tried to advance past the Hall. Hoping her bond with Lysa was strong enough I reached for her with my mind trying to feed her energy to stop the witches. The relieved look on her face as she concentrated harder on her spell made a difference as the witches were pushed into a corner against the walls.
“Kenna! Don't! We can still save our Clan!” Diana said trying one last time to plead with her daughter. Kenna looking at her mom tears in her eyes saying, “I'm sorry mom. I want to come first for once.” Knocking them out as the guards rush forward slapping warded cuffs on all four of them then dragging them off to the warded cells. I turn to Kenna saying, “Thank you. You didn't have to and had every reason so just take my power and run with it, but you saved us. So thank you.” she smiled holding Lysa in her arms. “Can we keep staying in the room the Queen made for us? I'm sure that's not the last of the witches that will come and I'm pretty sure I'll be on a wanted list soon. Plus like I said you might want to start making those demands of the Council now that my mother is imprisoned.”
Turning away to walk back to their rooms Lysa and Kenna looked rough, but on a good start with each other. Turning to Jace who had a packet in his hands I said, “Time to put that Witches Council in check.” Remembering the motions Kai made to make a portal I did exactly as her and ripped a hole in time and space to the Witches Council Hall. The Guard behind me stood at attention as I said, “Time to scare some Witches,” then we made out way in through the portal.
