The Old Man
Chapter Ninety – The Old Man
Effects of being in a coma for long still plagued him, not even in a medical way or physical but mentally.
This news should be the greatest in his life but it got delivered to him, laced with mockery.
"Huh? What do you mean when will we get the verdict?" Selene had scowled at him. "Didn't you throw a party for the case? Or you did so without knowing what was said?"
Dominic had rubbed his neck, wondering what could have been said. "There was a break… right?"
"Ah, you're hopeless." Selene massaged her temples. "The verdict came the same day. Mr. Allen sentenced to thirty-seven years imprisonment. Mrs. Jones- Hey!"
Dominic rushed out from her office to go read it himself. How did he not know that the information he'd been waiting for all year came out a day back?
He opened his laptop and read trending headlines.
Indeed! The verdict came yesterday and it's the best thing. Mr. Allen had almost forty years imprisonment, he'd definitely be dead before he'd come out.
Mrs. Jones got twenty years imprisonment and Mr. Tadashi got forty years imprisonment. Dominic almost felt pity for the man.
The young master made a little dance before closing the laptop. It's truly humiliating that while others celebrated with him yesterday, knowing the verdict came out, he didn't know.
"All is well that ends well!" Dominic cheered.
The knock on the door killed his enthusiasm. Duty called so quickly. Or was it fatherhood this time?
Jamie threw the door opened. "Dominic!" he had a wide smile on his face. "Come and see this!" he rushed out.
Did something happen? It's probably not bad since Jamie had a smile. He barely remembered that butler smiling.
Jamie rushed into the room were the kids usually played and Dominic followed. There was an old man in raggedly clothes, hugging Lucas.
Dominic raised a brow. A new employee?
"Jamie, no matter how unfortunate this man is, I don't think I have a job for him." He came forward and touched the man's shoulder. "Sorry sir, but there's no-"
The old man smiled at him. "You grew up a lot too."
Dominic's hand shook as he released the man, he began laughing. "Grandfather?! Goodness, you look like shit!"
The old man joined him in laughing. "It's like that sometimes! You look almost forty though! How's it going?"
Dominic huffed. "So you finally came back?"
"Yes, it was a good retirement plan, right? And no, you still have all the rights to the company. I'm not taking over at all." Mr. Thales smiled. "You proved you earned it."
That's the best thing Dominic had been told in a while. He nodded, suppressing a smile. Finally, he proved himself.
"How did you get here-" Dominic slammed to the wall as Pamela shoved him, while rushing to her father.
Mr. Thales felt terrified at first, thinking it's a ghost before feeling her and realizing she's real. He had so many questions. "M-My daughter… My daughter!"
Dominic rubbed his head that got slammed on the wall. He should sneak out of here somehow before his body gets rammed into something worse.
"Brielle found him."
Dominic turned to Jamie. "Brielle?" So that's what she had been off doing? She would also be taking care of her father's company and paying the ones that he owed.
"So, where are they?" Mr. Thales asked, still hugging his daughter. "Come on, where's your family, Dominic?"
Dominic hesitated. "Well, my boys are…"
"Brielle is no longer part of his life." Pamela released her father and said. "Her involvement, intentional or not, in the fall of Thales Empire is too great to overlook."
That was one way to say it. Dominic thought. It made him sad that Brielle left with Jake but it made sense as much as he'd like to revolt. She'd be so alone if not.
"Dorian, Lucian!" he called the boys who were sleeping in a small room inside the same room. They didn't hear him.
Mr. Thales rushed to the room. His eyes expanded on seeing them. "They are twins? That's so beautiful."
Dominic smile proudly. Everything was so beautiful now.
Looking back at when he woke up, everything felt so dark till Jamie came and then Selene and everything just started to step up. The secrets hurt but he overcame.
"I owe you a special toast actually. Remind me some time." Dominic told Jamie besides him.
The young man was a bit confused but he agreed. "Sure."
Dominic returned back to his last work for the day. With a grandfather and mom, Lucas would be so much better. His kids too.
His grandfather would be down when he'd hear his wife's death but the news will be so much easier to swallow when you know the perpetrators are rotting in jail.
The transport service ranked amongst the top ten best and reliable in the country.
Dominic thought of another celebration party since his grandfather missed the last one but he kicked against it.
He still had to pay Selene so he shouldn't waste money.
"Hmmm."
Dominic looked up and saw his grandfather in the office. He had changed to better clothes. "This is a huge bill." He pointed at the one pinned on the wall. "Which employee racked this up?"
Dominic exhaled. "Butler Saunders Daughter, Selene, also known as Case Closed. She helped with the case and she's one of the best, if not the best, lawyer around."
Mr. Thales nodded. He had heard of the young lady before and wanted to pair him up with his grandson but decided to let the young man find a wife himself.
"How about grandpa help you with this bill?"
Dominic raised a brow. "Huh? Where will you get the money?" He had money and he dress like a beggar? That's some shit from a sitcom, wasn't it?
Mr. Thales wore a smug expression. "Which billionaire do you know that doesn't have a stash somewhere?"
Stash? Dominic's eyes widened, he smirked. "Fine then. Please, help your grandson pay this debt!" he bowed.
Mr. Thales patted his shoulders proudly. "Yes, poor child. Your grandfather will willing help." They shared a laugh.
Dominic noticed that the twins stuck around their great-grandfather more and left him to his work. He felt thankful for that.
By evening he was done with work and assembled all of them. "So, who wants to follow me for lunch?" They should already know where.
Dorian and Lucian began jumping. "Me. Me. Me."
"I don't mind, Uncle Domi. I actually have a preference this time." Lucas said with a determined expression. Pamela rubbed her son's head.
"I'd decline." Jamie said. "I still have to-"
"We are all going." Mr. Thales pulled Jamie back. "It's all on Dominic so eat to your fill."
Dominic began having second thoughts. Why did that feel like they planned to waste his money? He smiled anyway. "Sure! Let's eat!"
All's well that ends well. All that mattered was the family stay together and share many happy memories.
