Selfish

Chapter Seventy-One – Selfish

The energy within the company died down by afternoon. Dominic slumped down on his chair. It wasn't even the end of the week yet he felt so exhausted.

The lawyer was still perusing though mounds of paperwork, while Lucas was asleep on her laps. Dominic smiled, his little nephew must feel safe around her now.

It was time to see his family as promised. "Um, Selene, I'd leave the rest to you for now. You should stop soon too."

She looked up, then down again at the papers. "No worries, you can have a break. I'd handle it till then."

Dominic wondered why she sounded like his boss giving him some time out? She was impossible. He carried Lucas off her and towards the room where his family where.

On opening the door, he saw half of them asleep, except Suzy, Jake, and a young man he recognized as Butler Su.

"Oh, would you look at that! Lucas actually looks adorable when he sleeps." Suzy teased, it made Jake give her the sides eye. The twins were resting on both his legs.

Dominic gently laid Lucas on a couch, then turned to Brielle. The woman was really at his company, but once again, ignoring her duties as a mother to sleep. "Jake, your legs would hurt if those two keep staying there."

"They already hurt." The young body groaned.

Suzy chuckled. "The boys could have gone to their mother but they came to you, be proud."

"That's not what happened, young lady." It was Butler Su, he gave Suzy a reprimanding look. "I'm sure the two young masters felt their mother was tired so left her…"

"When they slept, Miss Brielle was still awake. In fact, she just finished yelling at my Uncle Jamie. They were scared to go to her, more like." Suzy retorted.

What a conceited young girl, Butler Su thought. How dare she bad mouth Lady Brielle and in front of her ex-husband that she's still trying to please?

"It's alright Suzy, we don't know why they left in the first place. It might be tiresome." Dominic said, taking the twins off Jake's body.

He already knew how Brielle was like, there was no need to further paint her.

Jake tried to move his legs but discovered they were stiff and painful due to muscle pull. "That's it, I'm useless now."

Suzy chuckled over every little thing making the butler annoyed. She noticed his gaze on her and smiled, before walking out of the room to be with her mother.

Dominic watched Butler Su intently before walking up to him. "Do you know what happened?"

The butler looked away from him, feeling bland in comparison to him. That'd be the only reason that sets Dominic apart from him. His good looks.

Despite the butler's regular talks of being beautiful, he always felt insecure when it came to Dominic. After all, Lady Brielle married him. Even if he wasn't a fresh unmarried man, he could still easily rival unmarried men.

"I-I think it'd be best to let the Lady tell you herself. I wouldn't know what information she'd like to keep from you." the butler finally answered.

Was there information to keep from him? Dominic frowned. "Since they left home, I'm assuming they'd be living with me from now on, right? So, I need to know."

Living with him? Butler Su grew distressed. Lady Brielle would be living with his ex-husband? It wouldn't take long for them to be back together.

He looked down, wondering if he'd pick her happiness over his. He knew she still very much liked her husband.

"I still retain my earlier response. Please, wait for Lady Brielle to awake before asking questions." Butler Su repeated. Dominic scoffed, walking out of the office.

Someone sneezed and he turned. It was Lucian, perhaps the place he laid him was quite dusty. Dominic went back to him and patted his head.

"Daddy?" the little boy rubbed his sleepy eyes.

"Hmm." Dominic answered. "You should lay back down…"

Before he could finish, the little man wrapped his arm around his father's waist. "Daddy! You finally came!"

The feeling was warm and relaxing, being with his sons. He rubbed his back. "Hmm, I finally came."

The butler felt more distressed seeing their interaction. Equating Lady Brielle's kids in the equation would mean they needed a father. And he couldn't be that for them.

"Daddy!" Lucian suddenly remembered. "We heard our grandfather say he was trying to kill Uncle Bethany."

Kill Uncle Bethany? What made them know Bethany was their uncle? Or was it just a formality? "Eh? He said that?"

"We need to warn Uncle Bethany. For his spy mission. And Bobo too!" The boy looked determined.

Dominic held his mouth, watching Brielle and the butler, he didn't trust them to know about Bobo's existence.

"Right, right, I'd tell Uncle Bethany about the attack and he'd be alert. Don't worry, he has it under control, okay?" Dominic whispered back.

Lucian slowly nodded, thinking the whispers was because the information was a secret mission. His father exhaled, leaving his side. So Mr. Allen finally lost it?

It made Dominic wonder if it was because of the news Silas made that day. Was the old man losing it because his plans were being thwarted?

The incident with Bethany he may have been talking about would be the one that led to Bobo staying at his house. Dominic thought.

"Did your grandfather speak about a wristwatch?" He asked Lucian and Jake. "Did you see the news recently?"

Jake shook his head in the negative, being unaware but Lucian began gushing. "Yes, you were on TV. Dorian and I saw you." The boy smiled. "We saw you, we saw you."

"Mr. Dominic."

Dominic looked away from his son, to the butler. "Yes?"

"Did you know the wristwatch belonged to Mr. Allen?" Butler Su asked. You asked if his grandfather asked about the…"

"And if I did?" Dominic raised a brow.

The butler hesitated. If the man knew, couldn't he just return it to the owner without bringing it to the media?
