On Good Turn...

Cole opened the door and went inside with the poise of a man who nothing could ruffle. But despite his composure, when he and Eva got to Jenna's room, even he was shocked to find Frank standing a few inches away Jenna's bed, looking down her sleeping body.

"Hello?" Tolu said, gingerly walking up to him. Eva traipsed closely behind him, holding him closely.

Frank didn't turn back. Tears were dropping from his eyes but he there was no trace of sorrow on his face now. He wasn't really crying, but tears were streaking down.

"I think he has gone crazy," Eva whispered in Cole's ears.

"How do you know?" Cole whispered back in annoyance. He was beginning to smell trouble and he didn't like this feeling.

"Good morning, Mr Frank," Cole said again, trying to be gentlemanly. "Good to see you."

Frank didn't turn back. He hadn't even acknowledged their presence yet. He just kept staring down at Jenna's face while she slept.

"I told you," Eva whispered again, clutching Cole's arm tightly, "he's out of his mind."

"Was he acting like this when he arrived?" Cole said in a whisper.

"No, not at all," she said, still maintaining the whispering conversation, "He suddenly changed when I told him that Jenna is alive."

"I remember telling you not to pull that stunt but you wouldn't listen," Cole said, gnashing his teeth.

"How was I to know that it would affect him this much?"

Cole reached forth and placed his hands on Frank's shoulders. He was surprised to find that Frank's muscles were taut. In any case, he said calmly:

"I know how you feel, Frank. But I want you to sit down and give your mind some time to process this reality."

"Take your hands off me."

Damn. There was something deadly, something frighteningly menacing about Frank's voice that Cole, even with all his poise, took his hands from Frank's shoulders immediately. The hostile tone in his Frank's voice bewildered him because he didn't see any need for such.

"I know you're probably mad about the stunt," Cole said, "look, it was my idea,"—he took the blame—"I wanted you here by all means. Jenna was hurting herself due of your absence, due to how bad you've treated her." And then Cole became angry. "You have absolutely no right to be angry at anyone! This pretty lady lying down here could have been dead now because of your wickedness!"

Frank swivelled around and glowered at Cole. That thing that he was struggled against three minutes ago, that thing had taken full control of him now. Even though Eva didn't know what it was, she was certain now that Frank wasn't mad. He was a totally different person now.

"Frank, what's all this nonsense?" Eva said. "Some minutes ago you were crying and saying you loved Jenna more than anything and now, after seeing your lover"—she did the inverted comma sign with both hands when she said 'lover'—"you've suddenly changed and start looking angry. Angry at whom?"

Frank eyes was still focused on Cole. Cole's hand stirred nervously. By the look on Frank's face, he knew he had to do something fast to change the tensed atmosphere.

"Look, man," he said calmly, "I'm sorry about that, okay? Seriously, the stunt was just to help Jenna. We were worried for her. Just sit down, please, and let's talk like adults that we are."

"Don't tell me to sit down."

"And who the fuck are you to think you can intimidate with your angry face?" Cole flared up. "I advise you to leave here now if you don't want trouble. Leave here! You're of no use! You're useless to this poor girl!" He turned at Eva and said, "Didn't I tell you? It was pointless trying to get this heartless idiot to come here! Such a wicked human being he is! Seems he has yet to understand that Jenna would have been in the morgue now if it weren't for us. This fool couldn't care less if Jenna committed suicide and he's here scowling like an idiot!"

"You're right, Cole," Eva said, "it's all my fault. I thought I was dealing with a human being with a conscience."

Cole reached for his pocket and brought out his phone. He began the dial something on small the Motorola phone.

"Please leave here and don't bother to come back," Eva said to Frank who hadn't taken his eyes from Cole. "Leave or the police will make you leave."

"Save your breath!" Cole said to Eva, "The idiot is about to know the kind of person I am." And then he placed the phone on his left ear, waiting for the person from the other side to answer the phone.

"Your presence here is dangerous to the life of Jenna," Eva said. "Leave now and avoid trouble."

Frank didn't even look at her direction at all. He kept gazing at Cole were sharp hatred in his eyes. Cole, on the other hand, started speaking now. His voice was loud and clear, calculated to scare Frank.

"Yes, yes," he said, "It's Afolayan OluwaCole. Good morning, how are you? … okay, okay… See, I want you to come to my compound now… there's someone I suspect to be a criminal… yes, no, I mean, yes… he threatening people.… how many minutes… what?? Thirty?? ….. don't worry…no, don't worry, I'll pay… your station is in this same Bariga nau… five minutes? okay, good." Then he ended the call.

"At they coming?" Eva asked.

"They are on their way already."

"Excellent."

Cole was returning the phone to his pocket when something heavy—so heavy and hard like a rock—hit him by his jaw. The force of it sent him flying in the opposite direction.

"Aarrhhh!" He exclaimed and fell down. The sheer force of the blow wasn't like anything he had ever experienced before in his entirely life. Eva shrieked too and dashed to the door in terror. In all her years, she had never seen a single lunch throw a grown man off the ground like that. In a moment, she was gone, shouting on top of her lungs, asking all the neighbours to come outside.

The punch was so lethal that it broke Cole's jaw, and he spat out blood and three broken teeth. Frank towered over him, ready to land another punch, but Cole rolled his eyes to the side and passed out that moment.

"What's going on?" Jenna said weakly, waking up from sleep. She could not see very clearly as she was still under the influence of the sedative she had received. She wiped her eyes with both hands to clear her vision.

"Frank," she gasped, "Is that you?" Then he eyes caught the bloody sight of Cole lying still on the floor. "My God," she cried, "what have you done?"
