Chapter Sixty-Six
Chapter Sixty-Six
Everett
I am both nervous and excited as I wait at the airport for Aubrey to arrive. It was touch-and-go there for a while; she only decided two days ago that she was coming. A part of me truly thought she was going to cancel. I tried my hardest to do better, but when Hugo was here, it made it harder. I can only hope that things won’t be off between Aubrey and me. I am eager to see her, but I have that doubt in the back of my mind that things aren’t going to be the same between us.
I am waiting at the entrance for her, an iced coffee in my hand for her. Her flight should have landed, and she’ll be here soon. I shouldn’t be this nervous about seeing my girlfriend. Tell that to my racing heart, churning stomach and sweaty palms. I don’t know how I will react if Aubrey isn’t too happy to see me. I sigh. The thought of it is like a stab in the heart. I don’t want to mess everything up before we have had a real chance.
Five minutes later, I notice her coming through. Aubrey seems anxious, probably because the place is so busy, and she is somewhere she is unfamiliar with. She glances around like a lost puppy, looking for me. The second her eyes find me, she smiles brightly and rushes over to me. Aubrey seems excited to see me.
“Everett,” she gushes and flings her arms around my neck, knocking the coffee and spilling some of it, but I really don’t care.
I wrap my arms around her. “Hey, beautiful.”
I hold her tight, making sure not to spill any more of her coffee.
Aubrey clings to me. “I missed you.”
“I miss you too, beautiful.”
My entire body relaxes now that I know things haven’t changed in the way I thought they would have. We hug one another for a minute before parting. Aubrey stares up at me with her pretty eyes. God, I have missed her more than I realized. I dip my head down, capturing her lips in mine. She moans instantly into my lips, kissing back.
Our lips part, and I rest my forehead against hers. “I am so happy you decided to come and are here with me.”
“Me too, but remember the promise you made to me, Everett.” She whispers.
“I know. I have cleared my schedule for the time you are here. I promise, this weekend is only about us. No work, no business dinners, and no calls. I am all yours, baby girl.”
“Good.” She beams.
I take a few steps away from her, handing her the coffee I have for her and take her free hand in mine, linking our fingers, leading her to my car. We are soon on the road.
“How was the flight?”
“Long and scary. I am not a fan, but it is okay because I knew you would be waiting for me when I landed.” Aubrey smiles, placing her hand on my knee as I drive.
“I am sorry it freaked you out, sweetness. The next time you fly, well, except on the way back, I will be right there with you.” I promise, place my hand over hers and squeeze it.
Aubrey won’t need to fly back here because after this weekend, we don’t have plans to see one another until I return home. It can’t come quick enough. I would rather be at home, where I can see Aubrey any time I want, than be anywhere else. All my calls will be forwarded to my assistant to deal with until I am back in work mode. Nothing is going to get in my way with my time, Aubrey, while she is here. I have made some plans for us, touristy things. Plus booked dinners too. I want to make sure she can have a good time here. I plan to spoil her, even if she tries.
We won’t be doing much today since it is already three in the afternoon. She will be tired from the flight and trying to adjust to the time difference. I have booked us a table for dinner at eight tonight. It gives her a few hours to relax and get ready. The fun can start tomorrow. I would love for us to be alone all weekend in my apartment, but she is in London; she deserves more than that.
“How is London treating you?” Aubrey asks.
“Good. It is a great city, but it isn’t home. I will be glad when I can come home. You are going to love London. I have booked us something to do while you are here.” I smile.
“I will look forward to it. Though what I will look more forward to is when you come back home.”
“Me too. We won’t do much today. Get you settled into the apartment, and then I have booked dinner for eight tonight. We can go for a walk once you have dropped your things off and freshened up.”
Aubrey’s hand runs up my thigh, inching closer to my crotch, but stops before it reaches it. “I had something else in mind, and it doesn’t involve us going outside.” She purrs.
I groan, my length stirring to life. Since our plans haven’t worked over the last two weeks, there hasn’t been much intimacy between us, not even over the phone. “Mmm, whatever you want.”
I see her smirk out of the corner of my eye. Aubrey squeezes my thighs before she draws her hand away. “I have missed being that close with you, too.”
“You and me both.” I groan.
There have been a lot of cold showers and the use of my hands. It hasn’t been the same. Thankfully, I have been busy, and it hasn’t been taking over me as much as it would have if I weren’t doing anything.
“I thought you would agree…” she giggles.
Aubrey rests her hand on my shoulder. “I really have missed you, Everett.”
I kiss the top of her head, making sure to keep my eyes on the road. “I have really missed you, too, beautiful.”
I wish she could stay here with me until I return to New York, but even if it were possible, it wouldn’t happen because I wouldn’t be around much, and we know how that has been the last couple of weeks. It is only another two weeks, and I will manage. If something doesn’t go right, I am not staying any longer. Someone else can deal with it. I agreed on a month! I don’t plan on staying any longer.
