Chapter thirty-four-Here I am
Adira Skylar's Pov:
I woke up in the middle of the night feeling cold. I looked up at the window to see if it was raining. It was not. But I noticed something else. Someone was walking outside the car. Someone was there outside the car. I sat up and noticed six of us were sleeping inside the truck. Valentino was sleeping too beside Mathew. I tried to look outside through the window. I touched the window. It was so cold that I jerked my hand away. Suddenly, I heard someone singing "Delia's Gone" by Johnny Cash.
"So if your woman's devilish,
You can let her run.
Or you can bring her down and do her
Like Delia got done.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone."
The song, the voice, everything sent shivers to run down my spine. I moved away from the window. I just felt so scared. I wanted to hide under the blankets but mustering up the courage I went near the window again. I inched closer to the window gulping.
"Boo!" A voice startled me and started laughing in front of the window.
"Aaaaa!" I instantly screamed in fear and jerked away from the window.
"Adira, what's wrong?" Lancelot said taking me in his arms. The lights were turned on. I started to cry. I started to cry so hard. I was so scared. Everyone was up. "Baby, did you have a nightmare? What's wrong? Tell me, baby." Lancelot asked me softly. I kept quiet and kept crying. "It's okay. We all are here. We are all safe. You are safe. Don't cry, baby. It's okay." Lancelot told me hugging me tightly. Emily came to me and held my hand. "Sky, don't cry. We all are here. Tell us what is wrong? Don't cry please." Emily told me caressing my face. I gulped. "Someone is outside there. " I cried out.
Lancelot Carter's Pov:
"Someone is outside there," Adira said crying. She looked terrified. "I think you were just having a nightmare, baby. Nobody is there. See?" Emily assured her pointing outside. Adira nodded in denial. " There is someone. He was singing something creepy. He was walking beside the car. And when I tried to look through the window to have a better look, he just jumped on the window and started laughing." She told us to bury get face in my chest. She was still crying. We all looked at each other. I handed Adira to Emily and decided to check outside. I can't take any risks. I came outside the truck. Oscar followed me. It was chilly here. I walked around the car. Walking up the window that Adira mentioned, I touched it. It was frozen. It was so cold that I jerked my hands away. I panicked. "We can't stay here. We have to move. He is here. Get inside the car, Oscar." I told Oscar panicking. "Who is here?" Oscar asked worriedly. We ran inside the truck to the others. " Snow Willson is here. We need to move." I told him to get inside the truck. "It was not Snow. He didn't even resemble Snow. What are you talking about? He was not Snow." Adira said still crying. I looked at her in confusion. " What do you mean it's not Snow? Who else will walk around our vehicle at this time of the night scaring the hell out of you? Last time I checked, I don't have other enemies." I told her. " It was so not Snow. I know him. He won't walk around the car just to scare me!" She told me with tears in her eyes. I was angry. Why was she calling that monster Snow so lovingly? Why was she even defending him? "What do you mean you know Snow? Why are you calling that bastard Snow? You don't even know him. You just saw him once. And that one time he scared you." I raised my voice at her.
"I know him. He talked with me every day. He came to me whenever I was alone. He would talk to me. And he was not scary at all. Yeah, one time he scared the hell out of me but he apologized for that. He is not the one who came today." Adira said wiping her tears. I looked at her in disbelief. "You knew he was following us yet you didn't say anything to us. You were talking with him and you didn't even bother to say anything about it to me. You know he is the guy we are running away from. Yet, you talk with him? You defend him?" I yelled at her.
"The guy who showed up right now wasn't Snow. Believe me." Adira said softly.
"How can I believe you? How can I believe you when you have been doing nothing but being friends with him behind my back?"
"I am sorry for not telling you earlier. But I won't apologize for talking with him. He is not the bad guy here. You say it's all he's doing. But did you even ever see him doing all you told us? Did you ever saw him killing a person? Killing people in front of you?"
I became silent. She was right. I never saw him killing people. I never even saw him doing anything. I just heard people telling me he was behind all of this. She was right. But I felt so angry. Why was she so confident about him?
"Yes. I did. I saw him killing people!" I lied.
"You are lying. Your eyes are lying. You never saw him killing people." She said looking at me.
"Why are you taking his side? Why are you defending him? Why are you being so confident about him?" I yelled angrily.
"He is my friend," she stated looking at my eyes.
"That's just not it. Is it? You are cheating on me. You cheater! You-" a slap stopped me saying further. Everyone was silent.
"I just hope you would take back what you said right now," Adira said looking at me. Her eyes were so cold. She was hurt. I know but I was just full of my ego. I was jealous. Why would she talk about another man like that in front of me? I wanted to rip off Snow Willson's body.
"I don't want to take back the truth I said. You should admit the truth." I told her touching the place where she slapped me.
"Suits you best." She said looking at me. She took her phone and her bag and opened the door of the truck and walked away.
"Adira! Stop! Hey! Stop right now! It's not safe out there! Come back this instant!"Mathew yelled at her.
"You are such a jerk! Stop her." Emily told me and got outside of the truck. Others got outside too. Mathew, Valentino, and Oscar started running after her. I sat there with my ego. She won't go far. She will come back within some moments. She doesn't know this area. She has to come back in some time. I came outside the car and stood beside Emily. " You should have stopped her." Emily started crying. "She shouldn't have defended that bastard," I stated simply. Emily looked at me with disbelief. I looked away.
Some seconds later, the guys came running to us. Adira's bag was in their hands. I panicked. "Lancelot! Adira, she just vanished. She just vanished while we were running after her." Valentino said with fear evident in his eyes. I sat down in panic. "God! What did I do? Oh no!" I mumbled crying. "You jerk! It's all your fault! Bring her back right now!" Emily yelled at me slapping me continuously. Yeah, this was all my fault. Why did I tell those things to her?
Kristopher Davies's Pov:
"Oh silly child, you just made such a clear path for me. Thank you for not believing her. Thank you for yelling at her. I am the bad one here. Here I am sitting and sipping on my coffee and enjoying your silliness, Lancelot. Such a stupid kid." I said smirking to myself.
I looked in the direction from where that girl vanished. "Oh Snow, I see what you did there. You took her with you. Should I follow you? Or just mind my own business for a little more while? I should do the second one." I smiled to myself.
"That girl wasn't dead. Why did those two idiots tell me she was dead along with her parents years ago? My bad. I should have done the job myself. I should have killed her like I killed Ezlynn Mavery Skylar and Jacks Evans Skylar with my own hands. You can't even trust people doing a job. Such a hustle. But it will be fun to kill her now. Let's play with her a little more and put an end. For now, let's sing my favorite Johnny Cash song:
'Delia, oh, Delia,
Delia, all my life.
If I hadn't have shot poor Delia,
I'd a had her for my wife.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
I went up to Memphis,
And I met Delia there.
I found her in her parlor,
And I tied her to her chair.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
She was low down and trifling,
And she was cold and mean,
Kind of evil make me want to grab my submachine.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
First time I shot her,
I shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer,
But with the second shot, she died.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
But Jailer, oh, Jailer,
Jailer, I can't sleep.
'Cause all around the bedside,
I hear the patter of Delia's feet.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
So if your woman's devilish,
You can let her run.
Or you can bring her down and do her
Like Delia got done.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.
Delia's gone,
One more round,
Delia's gone.'
And it's time for Adira Skylar to be gone," I said laughing.
