Chapter 257 Dual Transformation
Chapter 257 Dual Transformation
As we went out, blood-soaked earth, deafening howls, and the metallic clang of weapons filled the air.
The battlefield between the wolves and bears had descended into chaos. Warriors from both sides charged at each other with primal rage, their eyes wild with bloodlust. The once-green field had turned crimson, and the bodies of the wounded were scattered across the landscape.
I stood at the edge, my heart hammering against my ribs. Next to me, Kane's tall figure was tense, his jaw clenched as he surveyed the carnage.
"This scene can only be salvaged by you, Elena," Kane said, his voice low and urgent. His eyes, those striking gold-green orbs, fixed on mine with an intensity that made my breath catch. "I believe in you, but this conflict is more complex than we imagined."
The worry in his expression spoke volumes. This wasn't just about two species fighting—something deeper was at play.
"What if I make it worse?" I whispered, watching a young wolf warrior fall under a bear's massive paw. "I've never fully transformed since getting Nora back."
Kane's hand found mine, his touch warm and reassuring. "You won't. Your dual heritage is exactly what we need right now."
I felt Nora stirring inside me, eager yet apprehensive. Since reuniting with my inner wolf, our connection had grown stronger, but we'd never attempted a complete transformation in such a high-stakes situation.
"I have to try," I decided, feeling the familiar warmth spreading through my veins. "But Kane... if something goes wrong—"
"I'll be right beside you," he promised, his eyes never leaving mine.
Taking a deep breath, I stepped forward and closed my eyes. I focused on Nora, feeling her presence wrapping around my consciousness. 'Together', I thought. 'We do this together.'
The transformation began with a rush of heat and a delicious ache in my bones. My senses sharpened dramatically—suddenly I could hear individual heartbeats across the battlefield, smell fear and rage mingling in the air. My body shifted, muscles stretching and reforming as silver-gray fur erupted across my skin.
When the change completed, I stood tall on four powerful legs, my silver-gray coat gleaming like moonlight. Next to me, Kane had also transformed into his magnificent Alpha form—a massive black wolf with silver-tipped fur, significantly larger than any other wolf on the field.
Together, we lifted our heads and howled.
The sound cut through the battlefield noise like a knife. Wolf warriors paused mid-fight, turning toward us before joining our howl, creating a haunting chorus that momentarily halted the conflict.
For one hopeful moment, I thought it had worked. Then a massive bear warrior at the front lines bellowed, "Wolf tricks! You think this display will intimidate us?"
His roar galvanized the bear clan, and they charged with renewed fury. One bear hurled a javelin that struck a wolf warrior in the shoulder. The wolf collapsed immediately, his body convulsing as dark veins spread from the wound.
"Poison!" someone shouted.
My heart sank. My wolf form hadn't calmed the situation—it had escalated it. Wolves howled in outrage as their comrade writhed on the ground. Bears advanced with more weapons, their eyes burning with hatred.
Kane nudged me with his muzzle, a question in his eyes. I knew what I had to do next.
Drawing on my mixed heritage, I focused on my mother's bear blood. The transformation was excruciating—my body fought against itself as bones cracked and reformed. My silver fur receded, replaced by thick brown fur. My muzzle elongated, paws growing into massive clawed hands.
The agony was blinding. I heard Kane's concerned whine as I shifted into a form I'd never fully embraced—a massive brown bear, standing upright on the battlefield between the warring factions.
My roar shook the ground, causing both sides to freeze in shock.
The reaction from the bear clan was immediate but divided. Some lowered their weapons, eyes wide with something like reverence. Others curled their lips in disgust.
"She's nothing but a half-breed!" shouted one bear warrior. "A mongrel trying to claim bear heritage!"
"She carries the blood of the Highland Bears," argued another. "We should listen—"
"Traitor!" spat a third.
The division in their ranks created confusion. Some bears retreated slightly, while others pressed forward with even greater determination. My attempt at unity had fractured their forces but hadn't stopped the conflict.
The dual transformation had cost me dearly. Pain radiated through every cell as my body struggled to maintain the bear form. My vision blurred, control slipping as conflicting instincts battled within me. A bear warrior charged, weapon raised, and I couldn't coordinate my limbs to defend myself.
Kane leapt between us, his black wolf form taking a glancing blow meant for me. He snarled, blood matting his silver-tipped fur as he drove the attacker back.
The battlefield had descended into greater chaos. My transformations, rather than uniting the sides, had created new divisions and suspicions.
"Elena!"
Through the haze of pain, I heard a familiar voice. Julian appeared at the edge of the battlefield, Isadora at his side. Both looked battle-worn, with cuts and bruises marring their skin.
With the last of my strength, I forced myself back into human form, collapsing to my knees. Kane immediately transformed beside me, draping his jacket over my shoulders.
"Your shape-shifting show didn't quite have the desired effect," Julian said with a strained smile, kneeling beside me. His usual lightness couldn't mask the concern in his eyes.
Isadora crouched down, examining me with worried eyes. "You've depleted yourself," she murmured. "Dual transformation without proper training... it's a miracle you're conscious."
"We have bigger problems," she continued urgently. "Hawk's forces are gathering just beyond the northern ridge. They're waiting for both sides to weaken each other before sweeping in to take the territory."
Julian's expression hardened. "The bears and wolves fighting each other is exactly what Hawk and now the bear king want. He's been playing both sides from the beginning."
Kane cursed, his hand protectively on my shoulder. "We need to unite against the real enemy, or we'll all be slaughtered."
"If we don't do something fast, the bears will have us all," Julian warned, his eyes scanning the ongoing battle. "Elena, you need to try something else. We're running out of time."
I looked at the battlefield, where wolves and bears continued to tear at each other, oblivious to the greater threat gathering on the horizon.
Hawk and my uncle had orchestrated this perfectly, turning ancient rivals against each other while positioning themselves to eliminate both.
