Chapter 115

After my workout, I return to our apartment just as Jenny emerges from the bathroom wearing nothing but her underwear. I'll be grateful for the sight of her for the rest of my life. I hug her from behind and she whimpers.

"Stop it! You're all sweaty and clammy."

"I know, but when I see you like this...." I grunt and stick my erection between her buttocks.

"I don't have time." She giggles. "I wanted to see Amelia before I started my day."

I reluctantly release her with a sigh. "Have you heard from her? Is she feeling better?"

"Sophia told me that contrary to what everyone thought, she's living her enforced rest pretty well."

"It's 9 a.m., her rest has just begun," I tell her, frowning.

She laughs, shaking her head. "Yes well, she's already asleep after having breakfast."

"If you ask me, it's not the hardest first day..." I undress as I enter the bathroom and she follows.

"I think it'll already be better once Alpha Xander's gone. She'll have this off her mind."

I snort. "She'll always think about him even if he's not physically there. After all, he's her mate too."

"Wow." She says to me visibly stunned. "So you're telling me that if a girl showed up here tomorrow saying she was your second chance mate you'd consider..."

"Hey, don't put words in my mouth. I just don't think it's that simple for all three of them that's all."

I walk up to her naked and take her chin between my thumb and forefinger. "You'll always be my number one. I'm glad I got rejected by my true mate to be with you. I love you and will love you until my last breath."

She bites her lower lip. "I love you, too. But I'm sure glad I'm not in their shoes."

I kiss her and she pushes me away before it goes too far. She turns, biting her lip before walking out of the bathroom leaving me alone with my erection and cold shower.

Once I've finished showering, I think back to my conversation with Xander earlier and the question he asked me. Why am I being so nice to him? Maybe because I know what it feels like to be rejected, and I was lucky enough to have an escape and meet Jenny afterward. But him... he'll always be Alpha, he'll always have to stay with his pack and he'll look weak to some people because he couldn't convince his mate to choose him. Damn, we've got a lot more in common than I thought.
