Chapter 116
**AMELIA**
This first day is going better than I expected. I slept in, Jenny popped in to check on me, and I started a new series on Netflix. Noah joined me for lunch on our bed. He watched an episode of this series and now I'm doomed to have to wait for him to continue. Grrr if I'd known I'd have turned it off before he was home.
Now all I have to do is find a good girlie show that will only interest me.
While I'm watching trailers, there's a knock on the door.
"Come in!" I shout from my bed.
With the TV remote control in one hand and a handful of popcorn in the other, my hand stops in midair as Xander appears at the open door.
"I see you're living the enforced rest pretty well." He tells me with a smirk.
I release the handle into the bowl. "Er, yeah. I haven't had a day like this since the kids were born, so I'm enjoying the quiet."
He hesitates for a moment but then enters the bedroom and sits on the bed next to me.
"I'm on my way home so I wanted to say goodbye before I left and also... I'd like to apologize for this." He says without looking at me.
"For this?" I ask him confused.
He looks at me with a clenched jaw. "If I wasn't here you wouldn't be in pain and you wouldn't be forced to stay in bed and worry about your unborn child."
"It has nothing to do with you. I've been stressed about this pregnancy from the beginning. It was... unexpected."
"That's not what Noah thinks." He says quietly.
I want to growl in frustration but I can't, we have to display a united front, especially in our situation. I can't imagine what Noah said to make him feel guilty.
"I'd say I'm more anxious because of the situation than because of you." I look at him cautiously. "If you know what I mean."
He relaxes visibly and offers me a small smile. "I think I do."
Is it weird that I'm glad he came to see me and at the same time sad that he's leaving? I spent all my time putting him off and avoiding being alone with him and now that the opportunity won't be coming up again any time soon... I'm disappointed.
I can't stop thinking about what my life would be like today if I'd met him before Noah but I refuse to go any further because I wouldn't have my sons and that's unthinkable.
I sigh. "I'm glad you came even if the circumstances are... well... not exactly ideal."
"It's hard to find a word that fits." He shakes his head as he stands up. "I wish I'd had more time in your company, but I have to get back. I hope we'll see each other again soon and that you'll think about what I said... seriously."
After hesitating, he approaches me and kisses me on the forehead.
Then he leaves, and when I hear the door close, I feel a smile form on my lips unconsciously.
"Well? What are you supposed to be thinking about?" Noah asks me in the doorway, his arms crossed and his gaze serious.
He must have arrived just as Xander left and I didn't hear him. If my parents could get home at that exact moment with the kids, I'd be happy because I wouldn't have to have this conversation with him now.
