Chapter 29

**Hunter's POV**

I left Daisy at her Dad's place after talking to him for a while so that they could talk more. He was surprised we used his hair for the DNA testing instead of just asking him for his blood but I told him I didn't want to get his hopes up.

Daisy said she would head to Keesha's place after leaving there so I told her I would send the driver down to her but Mr. Heart said his driver would do it.

It made me happy to see how proud he was of who Daisy had grown into.

Immediately after leaving there, I had called my friends and Daisy's friends to tell them about the good news. To say they were ecstatic was an understatement. They all promised to fly back as soon as they had chances to.

Right now though, I'm heading to the office where Mike is waiting for me. I had thought that I would not be needing his services anymore since I found Daisy but something about seeing Eve again does not sit well with me.

When Daisy passed out, I had rushed to her side and before I knew it, Eve had disappeared. She seemed really shocked to see Daisy, she probably thought she was dead up until now.

I had called Mike right after to look into it and now, I'm meeting up with him to hear his report. I won't make the same mistake I made years ago. I'm leaving no stone unturned regarding Daisy's safety.

Stepping out of the elevator, I notice Daisy's empty seat and I smile at the thought of her not being so far away from me all along.

When I turn my head, I see Mike sitting on the waiting sofa.

He stands up when he sees me and utters a "Mr. Stone" in greeting.

We both walk into my office and we take our seats.

"So what did you find out about Eve?" I ask hoping I don't sound as worried as I feel.

"Nothing. When I got to the restaurant, I discovered that she had quit immediately. I asked other waitresses if they knew anything about her but no one did. They all said she never talked to anyone, she just came and left every time"

"Shit" I swear in disappointment.

"But after talking to the manager, I found out that a few days before you went to that restaurant, she had asked for an advance in order to pay for her father's hospital bills" Mike says and my heart starts beating wildly.

"Her what?" I say almost yelling.

"Her father" Mike repeats cautiously while giving me a curious look.

"Mike, you have to find her! As soon as possible, oh shit, this can't be happening again" I blurt out.

"Is there something I should know?" He asks still confused.

"Daisy didn't just get into a car accident and disappear, she was kidnapped by Levi: Eve's father" I reply.

"Oh wow...that's... I'll give this my all and make sure I find her soon" he says and I nod.

"That would be great" I respond as he gets up to leave.

"Let me deal with all the worrying Mr. Stone, you should enjoy your time with your lost fiancé" Mike stops to say at the door before walking out.

After some hours, I'm momentarily able to get my mind off the matter to focus on work. I'm startled when the office phone rings and I figure that it must be Mrs. White; the receptionist calling directly since Daisy isn't around.

"Hello" I say.

"Good morning Mr. Stone, there's a Miss Eve Miller here to see you, she says you're expecting her?" My heart jumps to my throat in fear at her words.

What is Eve doing here?

What does she want?

"Send her up" I order and she responds before hanging up.

A few minutes later, Eve walks into my office and I resist the urge to pick up my phone and call the police.

"What do you want Eve?" I ask my voice almost as cold as how I felt towards her.

"I'm here to make a proposal" she replies taking a seat in one of the chairs in front of my desk.

"And why on earth would I agree to anything you have to say?" I respond incredulously.

"If you want to keep Daisy safe, you will" she responds staring me squarely in the eyes.

"My father is alive but my mother died in that accident although I never knew her" she starts and I frown confused.

"Your mother?" I ask.

"Yes, Miss. Violet; Daisy's housekeeper is my...or was my mother. She left when I was a baby but apparently kept in touch with my Father and decided to pose as the Heart's housekeeper when my father offered her a huge amount of money."

So Miss. Violet was also part of Daisy's kidnap?

"Anyways, my father thinks Daisy is dead and I'd like to keep it that way. He's very sick right now and if you give me some money, I'll take him very far away from this city and never come back" she states and I stare at her in disbelief.

"Why would I do that when I can just arrest both of you right now?" I ask ready to call security.

"Arrest me based on what? I never did anything to Daisy. Besides, you don't even know where my father is. Even if you find something to pin me down with and send me to jail, he's going to find out about Daisy one way or the other and you know how he is. When he does, he'll find her and finish what he was unable to years ago. Look, just give me the money and we'll gladly be out of your lives" Eve says almost pleading.

"How much are we talking about here?"

"Ten million dollars" she replies without batting an eye.

How do I even know she's telling the truth?

"Fine, how do you want to be paid?" I voice out and she slides a piece of paper across the table before getting up.

"Meet me unaccompanied at this address tomorrow. Make sure you've already deposited the money into a new account and bring the details with you. Remember Hunter, your time is ticking. Don't try to doublecross me, I don't want anyone to get hurt" she warns before sashaying out.

Wow, the audacity!

I immediately pick up my phone and dial Mike's number. Immediately he picks up, he starts talking.

"I was just about to call you Mr. Stone, I just found the hospital where Levi is currently receiving treatment. It's a psychiatric hospital, he goes in every two weeks for evaluation. What do you need me to do?" Mike says with a little bit of excitement in his voice at having found Levi so quick.

"Eve just came by my office" I state before proceeding to tell him everything she said.

"So, what are you planning to do, Mr. Stone? Although I have to tell you that giving her the money is a very bad idea. There's no reassurance that she will stick to her words or that she won't show up again in the future" he says.

"I was never planning to give it to her. I want you to get their address from the hospital, contact the police and go ahead with Levi's arrest preferably before the day ends." I command and he answers in the affirmative before hanging up.

Just then, I hear footsteps hurrying away from outside my door and I rush out to see if anyone is there but when I see nobody, I go back into my office.

I must have imagined it.

Later in the evening, I call Daisy to ask of her whereabouts and when she tells me she's at her apartment, I tell her that I'll be there soon.

I stop on my way to buy a bottle of wine for both of us. I can't wait to hear about how her day went and how Keesha reacted to everything.

Soon, I reach her apartment and when she opens the door, I'm unable to hold myself back from capturing her mouth with mine.

She responds instantly by wrapping her arms around my neck and then pulling me inside. She grins when she sees the wine I'm holding.

"A man with taste, I see" she says collecting it to place on the table before going to the kitchen to fetch wine glasses.

I follow her and pull her back into my arms and then start kissing her again.

"The wine can wait, I missed you" I murmur in between kisses and she smiles as her body melts into my arms.

"I missed you to...wait, did you hear that?" She asks suddenly at alert.

"What? I don't hear..." I'm cut off by my car alarm going off outside.

I frown and start to walk to the front door to check what's causing the commotion.

When I open the door. I see nothing so I step outside and see a bunny moving on the hood of my car. What the fuck?

That must be what set the alarm off.

I walk towards it to help the Bunny off while wondering how the hell it even got there in the first place.

My blood runs cold when I get closer and notice that it's a toy bunny. Someone must have set off the alarm then put it there to bring me outside.

My suspicions are confirmed when I turn around and see Eve holding a gun to Daisy's head.

How on earth did she get here?

"I told you not to double-cross me Hunter" she mutters coldly and I make a move to step forward then freeze when I feel something cold press against the back of my head.

"Don't even think of moving boy"
