Chapter 133 Star Dance

Chapter 133 Star Dance
Lyra: POV

I sat in the secluded garden of Star Crystal Territory, the Tidesong Staff balanced across my lap. After retrieving it from the vault yesterday—and that unexpected attack from Cassius's spy—I needed time alone to understand this ancient artifact my mother had entrusted to me.

The staff felt warm against my skin, its intricate runes glowing with a faint silver-blue light that responded to my touch. I traced my fingers along the ancient symbols, feeling the power thrumming beneath the surface.

"Stella, can you sense the energy patterns?" I asked silently, closing my eyes to better focus on the connection.

"Yes," Stella's voice echoed in my mind. "The Tidesong Staff carries the essence of generations. It's waiting for your command."

I took a deep breath, remembering my mother's instructions. "Deep breaths. Let the energy flow naturally," Lady Selene had said. "The staff isn't a tool to be controlled, but an extension of your power."

I gripped the Tidesong Staff more firmly and focused on the sensation of energy flowing through my veins, into my fingers, and through the ancient artifact. Gradually, the tip began to glow with an intense silver-blue light. I was surprised to discover that the staff amplified my starlight energy, making it several times stronger than when I cast spells on my own.

I guided the flow toward a small pond where the void contamination was most concentrated. The purplish-black taint that clung to the water's surface began to evaporate like morning dew touched by sunlight, dissipating into nothing.

"This is incredible!" I exclaimed, watching the contamination vanish much faster than I'd ever been able to achieve before. Areas that would have taken all my strength to purify were now being cleansed in mere minutes.

Nova fluttered silently to my side, her tiny form glowing with approval. "You're mastering it so quickly, Lyra," she said, her voice like wind chimes in my mind. "It's as if the Tidesong Staff has always been a part of you."

As I continued to direct the purification energy, I noticed the ancient runes etched along the staff's length began to illuminate one by one. Each symbol brightened as the cleansing progressed, creating a pattern of light that danced across the metal.

"The Tidesong Staff is remembering," Stella explained within my consciousness. "It has formed a resonance with your dragon soul. It doesn't just amplify your abilities—it preserves the experience of each purification."

I experimented by directing energy toward a flower bed farther away. The Tidesong Staff warmed in my hands, vibrating slightly, and I felt the purification range easily extend to triple my normal reach.

When the entire garden had been restored, verdant green replacing sickly purple-black, I felt a surge of hope unlike anything I'd experienced since this nightmare began. The garden now thrived with life again, a small victory against the spreading corruption.

Nova suddenly perked up, her attention drawn toward the palace. "Someone's coming," she said urgently.

I hurried back toward my chambers, my heart racing. As I moved, Stella's presence in my mind suddenly brightened.

"Lyra," she said, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "I'm sensing something... distant echoes from Kael."

My steps faltered. "What do you mean? Is he okay?"

"It's difficult to explain," Stella continued. "Our connection with dragons allows me to sense their general presence. I feel Kael's energy signature somewhere in the Dragon's Spine Mountains. They seem to be sheltered, protected somehow. But the details are hazy—like looking through fog."

"Are they safe?" I pressed, hope and worry battling within me.

"I believe so," Stella answered. "There's no sense of immediate danger. They've found refuge somewhere deep within the mountains, possibly underground. Beyond that, I cannot tell."

My heart both relaxed and ached at this vague assurance. As I processed this information, a knock at my door interrupted my thoughts.

My father stood in the doorway, his eyes carrying unspoken concern. "You seem troubled. Is everything alright?" he asked quietly.

"Yes, I just... I'm worried about my friends," I answered carefully.

He stepped closer. "Any word of their whereabouts?"

I studied his face, noting how much he had changed in these past months—the wrinkles around his eyes had deepened, and silver threads now prominently streaked his once-dark temples.

"I believe they've found shelter somewhere in the Dragon's Spine Mountains," I said after a moment's hesitation, keeping details intentionally vague.

"I could send scouts to locate them," he offered. "The Dragon Guard are absolutely loyal to me."

I shook my head. "No, I think... I think they're safer if we don't draw attention to them right now."

Father rubbed his temples wearily. "Things aren't going well in the council. I've been struggling with the factions that have emerged."

Looking at his exhausted face, I noticed how much thinner he seemed than in my memory. The shadows beneath his eyes spoke of countless sleepless nights, and the wrinkles etched into his face told stories of worry and strain.

White hair had crept through what had once been his raven-black temples, and the lines around his mouth seemed to convey all the hardships he had endured in my absence.

A lump formed in my throat as I suddenly realized how much pressure he had been under, protecting our territory and family. Tears welled up unbidden, and before I could stop myself, I rushed forward and wrapped my arms around him.

He stiffened in surprise before his arms encircled me, strong and protective as they had been when I was a hatchling.

"I'll be okay," I promised, my voice thick with emotion, feeling his powerful arms return my embrace.

His voice was equally unsteady. "I know you will... You're stronger than anyone, my daughter."

After he left, I picked up the Tidesong Staff again, feeling its resonance with my bloodline. Through our connection, I sent a silent hope outward: "Wherever you are, Kael, stay safe."

I gazed at the staff in my hands, imagining how it might become the key to turning the tide in the coming battles.
