Chapter 83 Failed Attempts
Later, Arabella knew her resistance, her fighting, everything that showed she “actually exists” was William’s satisfaction.
It satiated his thirst, his cravings were fulfilled by her rebellion and when none was fed to him, he was weakened too.
Subsequently, she decided to do none at all.
Staying lifelessly in the room, not bothering to come out, to fight, to argue, or even to escape that was troubling William too much.
“Talk to me, Bella, please, please,” William begged.
He was sitting on the ground, back against the bed while sitting on the side but resting his head on her lap. She didn’t resist.
“Don’t remain like this, please,” He pleaded with her, kissing the side of her leg.
Afraid he might not have traumatised her with his display of real wrath, that he might not have ‘broken’ his most cherished possession.
So he endeavored to control himself, to be good, but each attempt resulted in failure.
She could no longer trust those beautiful eyes.
“Stop this act, William,” She exhaled coldly, removing his head from her lap.
Holding her wrist desperately, he kissed it to show his veneration, “I am not acting, I swear,”
“Don’t bother. You can never change or be how you were.”
Scoffing, she yanked her hand back, wiping her wrist on her shirt to show the disgust his touch had begun to surge.
Curling his hand in a helpless fist, her action pierced a needle in his chest. Narrowing his eyes, he whispered sadly.
“Not that I chose it willingly…"
“Each time….” She swallowed hard to not cry, “Each time I think about finding something positive in you- you ruin it.”
Closing her eyes briefly, Arabella collected her words as the times of their marriage flashed where she gave him chances after chances.
“Each time I try to find a reason to stay in this marriage- you take it away from me. Each time I try to love you- you make me hate you,”
What did she ever want? Treat her as a wife.
He never let her go beyond a thing and even now, his concern was his ‘chattel’ was not working.
The Bella he stole with incredible efforts was not functioning properly and as long as this perspective would exist.
Nothing could get better.
Suppressing her tears, she finally decided to stare back into his miserable gaze, seeking her shore but she could no longer provide it.
“Is this what you want, William?” Her voice broke.
“Me being miserable? Desiring freedom from you and giving up on you?”
Filling with shame, he lowered his head and shook his head in denial.
“...No,”
“Your actions say otherwise,” She muttered.
Pushing her hair behind and going to the bathroom to take a shower in order to relax her body and mind but not before a piercing statement.
“You have seriously disappointed me this, William,”
He opened his mouth to say something but before he could, she was inside the bathroom.
Exhaling, he rubbed his temples in frustration, pressing his head harder on the bed while punching the ground.
He had no idea how to tackle this situation or what he could possibly do in order to regain her cognition but no answer reached him.
Sighing in disappointment, he decided to get ready for work and left.
Later that day, he returned late at night and saw Bella facing the wall, covering herself with the blanket. Perceiving another source to gain her slightest attention and laid next to her after freshening up.
His hand held her waist, pressing her into him with a hot breath on her neck, hoping to surge lust as a source of redemption.
“Arabella-”
But, she removed his hand and tensed her shoulders, not permitting him to explore her skin.
“I want to sleep, William,”
Nuzzling further into her neck, his lips quivered, “Please…”
“Leave me, I am exhausted, you have stolen my sleeps enough,”
He couldn’t understand the in-depth meaning of those words.
Looking for the next few seconds, when he saw her discomfort, he simply turned away and faced the other direction too.
She had grown weary of her own love. She had given up on her feelings and attempts and shut her eyes to discard all the problems.
With tears glistening in the corner, Arabella was staring outside the window..
‘What have I done to myself? Where did these feelings lead me? What did I gain by this stupid love? Nothing?’
And after contemplating her life thoroughly, the experiences, William’s Obsession, the only befitting outcome she found for them was… Separation.
Else, what could root in emptiness?
The following day, Arabella was staying silent but the heftiness of it gobbled William to the point he was willing to take her out.
“Uh.. Bella, get ready,”
“I don’t want to go anywhere with you,”
He sighed, “Helena wants to meet you. You can go with her place, I will drop you,”
“Why not here? Are you afraid she will see this obsessive side of her brother?” She taunted, going to the closet and picking out a dress.
“Hmm,”
Not arguing for the time being, she got ready as he dropped her at her friend’s place, praying it would reduce the walls of coldness.
“Helena…”
“Arabella…”
Filling with awkwardness, how she bid Helena goodbye at the wedding and now meeting under such circumstances, it was discomforting to say the least.
“I am leaving,”
Clearing his throat, William left as Helena gestured her to come inside as they sat down in the patio of her mansion.
Helena ordered all servants to not disturb her, frowning at Arabella who was looking down in dejection.
Folding her arms, Helena commented, “This is not the expression to receive from you after marrying him,”
Her lips began to shake, tears filling her eyes as she held onto her dress firmly, failing to hold her composure at this point.
Distressed at her anguish, Helena held her shoulder a little.
After witnessing her love all their lives, Helena thought Arabellla had found all her glee with William.
That her darkest fantasy had been fulfilled.
Helena thought for William she would willingly give up on all of them- She might have too- But only if things were as beautiful as others thoughts.
“What happened? You left my Luke, you left me, you left your world for William then why do all I see is regret in your eyes?”
When her pain grew intolerable, she hugged Helena, shattering into an uncontrollable wailing.
“Helena!”
“Be- Bella?”
“I made a mistake! I made a horrible mistake! He is not what he shows. He is not the man I fell for… he had changed,” She cried, refusing to let her go.
“I don’t want to sound heartless but I guess this is your punishment for being… selfish,”
“Even if this is, I can’t take it anymore, Helena, it hurts. It hurts so much!”
Confused at her outburst, Helena slowly hugged her back, asking tenderly.
“But why does it hurt? Doesn’t William treat you right?”
Sniffling, she pulled away and after giving it a thorough thought, Arabellla decided to tell her everything.
“He.. he… has made me a thing.”
