Chapter 70 Everything Shattered
When the doctor was gone, he was sitting beside her, holding her hands in a firm grip, pressing her hand over his forehead as a sign of reverence.
“Oh my, Bella, what have I done? I am sorry, I am so sorry,” He whispered breathlessly.
His voice was coarse, he could break any moment but not allowing himself, he merely stared at the unconscious woman.
Not once his intentions were to shatter her extremely, not once his dreams revolved around agonizing her.
Yet in the end, he ended up doing everything that could raze her until she couldn’t take it anymore.
William and his actions had weakened her too much.
Eventually Arabella woke up, her temperature was high due to fear, kicking under the sheets at the discomfort.
“Argh,”
At her movement, William panicked and instinctively embraced, shutting his eyes hopelessly.
“Bella, Bella, oh finally you are awake. I was so scared, I am sorry, I.. I..”
Cursing himself for becoming too self-centered to discard her feeble calls. She held her hand out at many points but he never understood.
“Huh..?”
There was no point of remorse anymore now.
She had comprehended he was immovable, her voice, her desperation was meaningless…. Just like her screams.
And when she recalled what happened, she shut her eyes fretfully and threw him down on the ground.
“Get away from me!”
Shaking violently in horror, she was glaring at him, utterly frightened of the senseless man before her.
“Bella, please, I-I didn’t mean to… I had no idea..”
Covering her mouth, she turned away instantly, failing to maintain a single eye-contact with him.
“Leave, you have frightened me enough,”
“Arabella, please, listen to me-” He held his hand out hopelessly.
“I said get the fuck out, William!”
When she shouted miserably, his hand was left in the air, eyes narrowed with a hastened breath that suddenly purloined energy from his whole being.
All he could do was to stare for the next few seconds with tears collecting in them, his lips quivered.
“P-Please…” he whimpered.
“GET LOST!”
He slowly curled his hand in a fist and forced himself to stand and left the room without causing further damage.
When he was gone, her eyes shifted to the room which was pristine as if nothing happened, to avoid the questioning from the doctor.
The picture was gone and the sight constricted her chest, curling like a ball, staring at the empty wall, her lips quivered with an immeasurable heartbreak.
‘I failed, nothing worked. He had gone on an irrevocable path. He was truly dead… there is nothing left in this worthless marriage.’
Everything was becoming meaningless, from the tightness, to the salty tears brimming, the sobbing, the anguish and endless efforts to make him listen.
To bring him back to the man he once was, everything failed.
Terribly.
And when it sank it, she couldn’t help but to shed silent tears at her destiny,
What more did she ask for?
To treat her as a human at least.
He couldn’t do this much leading her to this horrible point where an irrecoverable scar had appeared.
Carrying the ache, the next morning, she refused to bulge as he came, using his softest tone which couldn’t help anymore.
“Bella,”
Stopping before her, not allowing him to look, she instantly covered herself with the sheets, shutting her eyes.
Having zero strength to confront him which made him hopeless.
“Uh.. Have some breakfast…”
The hesitation was crystal-clear along with the remorse she was determined to not pay heed to.
“The doctor said you have weakness. Please eat your food and take these medications,”
Shifting down to the ground, his knees bend, staring at the covered woman while gripping the bed sheet, his eyes narrowed.
He stared keenly, focusing to listen to the feeble reverberation of her breaths, blaming him for her condition until he couldn’t bear it.
“Arabella, look at me,”
With his voice turning hoarse, he lowered his head out of shame, pressing his teeth to grasp the overwhelming ache but to no avail.
“Please,”
She didn’t, only hissed in return.
“Look for what? To not find you there? To find an animal before me?”
He pleaded with her, "Please, don’t say this. I-I didn’t mean to… go that far,”
“But you did,”
“Please,”
“Can you ‘at least’ now spare me some compassion and get the fuck away from me?” She snarled, mocking him.
She didn’t want to spend a second in his proximity.
His heartbeats drop into a strange, uncontrollable pain, turning his breathless, desperate.
All futile.
Overflowing with embarrassment, he rose from the ground, whimpering.
“Take care…”
Receiving no reply, he quickly changed and went to work, granting her a few moments to contemplate the situation.
His madness, the insensitivity, the mistrust. Now she was regretting ‘not’ telling Luke everything.
She purposely stopped, trying not to destroy the bond of the brothers but now, she wanted his life to fall apart as well and realize his deeds.
‘You created this scenario, everything was set up by you and maybe it is time you should pay for your action, William,’ She thought outrageously.
Getting out of the bed, bearing with the fever caused by the fear, she freshened up, ate the breakfast before falling into the bed again.
Drained to walk around or search for the picture and everything gradually began to stack in her chest, entangling her breaths with misery.
“What have you done to yourself…? What have you become?”
She was staring at the ceiling, wet tears smeared all over her cheek, silently rolling down, amplifying her aching.
Everything was shattered for her, nothing was working, everything felt hollow at this point.
“He is not him, he is not my William,”
And covering her face with her hands, a painful sobbing escape that spoke the buried truth no one knew.
The main, greatest reason for her to cling onto that marriage with expectation-
“He is not the William I fell in love with…”
Curling like a ball, she emptied her devastation until her soul was empty and she couldn’t provide further wails, staring into nothingness and remembering everything.
How it all started and how it all ended.
