Chapter 117 Defending Him

Chapter 117 Defending Him
“Peach Harrison, the billionairess, the domineering businesswoman, successor of the Galaxy Chain, has finally decided to tie the knot with Luke Grayson!”

The news broke out, it was all over the news, reaching most shockingly.

The engagement was done, it went absolutely lovely and dazzling. Still people were talking about the merest moment where Peach made William and Arabella leave.

They were curious by the reasoning yet none dared to question or object either.

“He is the younger brother of William Grayson, owner of Grayson enterprises, the top-notch, charming, and businessman of the Year for five years straight.”

Reading the article outloud, Peach’s father frowned, disliking how they merely mentioned Luke but used adjectives for Peach and William.

“Wow, so many praises for you and William but not a single statement for my future son-in-law?” He groaned, throwing the papers on the table.

“Let’s be honest, Papa, Luke had always relied on his brother. It is undoubtedly William who brought their work to the top. Luke and Helena got the business well-built and sustained,”

Peach’s nonchalant resonance came, filing her nails gracefully.

“Still, they should have watched his position now,”

“Let people talk, that is what they do. Who cares about those minimum wage employees who sit behind their desks in depression?”

“Hmmm, you are right,”

“Anyway, continue reading, I am intrigued to know what more they have to say,”

“Questions rose about their bond being a contract or business deal which was eradicated when the couple firmed it to be a love marriage.

Luke and Peach were university sweethearts who kept their lives private till now and now had announced their wedding.

Best wishes to the couple,”

Her eyes glanced at the glimmering sapphire ring in her hand, bringing a triumphant smile on her lips.

Her father noticed the devious gleam, the way her eyes shone wickedly as if she once again got what she desired.

He couldn’t help but to sigh, “Peach, oh, Peach, my darling daughter, you and your…. Demands,”

“Then you should have been careful when bringing me up. Who told you to make me into a person who gets what she wants?”

Smirking, she placed the filer down, relaxing in her seat, crossing her legs elegantly.

They lived in a sumptuous palace, far more well-embellished, elaborate and meticulously built than one’s imagination.

“It was during your university when you told me you will either have Luke as your husband and if not, you will destroy him,"

She chuckled darkly, “I did both,”

“Exactly. How low can you possibly fall to have what you want?” He exhaled, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“To any extent. Life or business, what catches my eye should have my label and now Luke will have it too,” She enunciated proudly.

“Huff. These genes won’t stop birthing monsters,”

“hmm, hmm,”

“I can only advise you to see the man you are going to marry as your husband instead of… a trophy you won,”

At her father’s advice, an unforeseen softness shimmered in her emerald gaze. Her beats enhanced, the moment they shared flashing before her that made her confess a buried truth.

“Don’t worry. My heart is sensitive about that man,”

“I can tell. But, do tell me, are you only being weak-hearted or… are you in love?” Her father smirked, leaning closer to poke her nose playfully.

Shyly averting her gaze, she rose from her seat, pushing her hair behind before walking away.

“Who knows?”

Later, she had a business meeting which went well but after it, she was unwillingly having lunch with her partner, Mr. Thorne who was giving her judgemental looks.

At first, she ignored it for the time being but when it pissed her off, she finally asked, “What?”

The elderly man faked a laugh, “Peach, congratulations on your engagement,”

“Thank you,”

“If you don’t mind, can I see the ring?”

“Sure,”

Rolling her eyes, she showed off her ring which she was proud of because it created an eternal link between her and Luke.

But, it simply made them narrow their eyes, repulsed this is what he had to offer to the successor, to the most spoilt and demanding one.

They found it hard to digest. Was it enough to impress the princess?

“That’s it? Is that the ring he gave?” He mocked, making a sour face.

“It’s his late mother’s,”

She continued smiling, checking the ring in her finger proudly. None of them could apprehend the sense of her achievement after all.

This was the conclusion of her long lost, most exhausting, and difficult conquest.

“But, ask yourself, is it worth it for someone of your caliber?” Thorne asked, leaning forward, wiping her smile instantly.

“With all due respect, Peach, you are the successor of the Galaxy Chain. You had your choice of countless eligible men- CEOs, politicians, even royalty. Why Luke?”

“Hmm? Why not?”

Receiving a razor-sharp, absolutely serious stare, Peach simply waited for him to fix his mistake which he didn’t and laughed.

“He’s handsome, yes, but frankly, his reputation is that of a notorious playboy, and his standards are… low-”

Averting her gaze, affixed her eyes back to her ring, a sly smirk etched on her exquisite features, giving him a clear-cut warning.

“Speak it again and you won’t be left with any status, this so-called caliber, and this life of yours too, Throne,”

Realizing he spoke too much and displeased the brat, he quickly apologized, “I humbly apologize for my remarks, I didn’t mean it like that-”

“Get lost.” She ordered strictly, glaring at him.

“Wh-”

Hitching his breaths at her level of dominance. Her bodyguard stepped forward, towering to block her sight.

“The deal is done. A second more of my time with is simply a wastage,”

He opened his mouth to debate or fight but the comprehension that it would result in his funeral from not only the deal but could risk his whole business, he swallowed the humiliation.

“Fine,” He growled, slamming his hand on the table and left furiously with his people with a stinging feeling of insult.

“Hmph, peasants,”

Peach knew she was marrying a man on a lower status than hers but her longing for him had reached an unmatched level.

She could finally have the one she wanted.

Subsequently, from now on, sheltering his emotions, his respect, his world, his home had become her top priority.

Unfortunately, none of them, not even Luke, could understand that.
