CHAPTER 30: JUST THE TWO OF US

I left the tree and tried not to make any noise. If Isaac knows I'm not in that house then he might have known where my current location is.

There's a nearby park here, I'll stay there until I see their car leave the subdivision.

I sat on a bench and looked up at the stars. They should be leaving now, what's taking them so long?

"A penny of your thoughts?"

"I'm waiting for someone to leave—" I couldn't continue my sentence when I realized that it should be only me here right now. So, who's this...

I slowly turned my head to check the person behind me but I was caught off guard when he cupped my face and planted a kiss on my forehead.

W-What?

What just happened?

Why is Isaac here?

And did he just kiss me?!

My heart is racing, why is that?

I placed my right hand on my chest and looked at Isaac who just sat beside me.

"Do you want me to explain?" he suddenly asked.

Does he mean why he suddenly threw me away somewhere far away without even saying anything or without contacting me for weeks?

If I hear his explanation I don't know what I'll do. To think that despite what he did it felt like it was for the best.

"I don't need it. Considering you're here then that means you've taken care of it now," I said. I saw Isaac nodding as he clasped his hands together.

It stayed quiet after that.

Wait, what am I waiting here when Isaac's here with me?

"Aren't you going home?" I asked.

"Do you want me to leave my wife here?"

"Well, you already did," I said and smirked.

Isaac scratched the back of his head and chuckled, "Then should I just stay here with you?"

"No," I plainly said.

Isaac's brows met together as his forehead creased, "Why not?"

"I have something I have to do on my own," I told him.

He looked at me with curiosity on his face. I thought he was going to ask more but thank goodness he didn't.

"Was that lady one of your friends?" He suddenly asked.

"Yeah, why?"

Isaac shook his head and said, "Are your friends all dangerous? That man who was with him is a no-go too. If he isn’t someone you know he'd be dead by now,"

What’s he saying? Does he know him?

"Never mind that I think it's going to rain. You guys should go home," I said.

And as if on cue it suddenly poured really hard so we had to run somewhere dry.

Isaac took off his coat and covered me with it, grabbed my hand and dragged me.

We're getting far and far away from the park but I think this is still part of the subdivision so we're all good.

I squinted my eyes and saw something ahead, "I think there's a house near there, maybe we can stay until the rain stops,"

We ran in the direction where I saw the place but we were bummed when we saw an inhabited house. That's not all, I think this has been abandoned for a long time since it's so dirty.

The roof looks like about to give up anytime. But since we were already there we took shelter.

I walked inside to look for something useful but everything was junk except for the dirty blankets that were covering the furniture.

I pulled out the clothes and found a sofa that looked old but also looked new. Is this antique?

The owner wouldn't mind if I sat here right? I also called Isaac to sit here with me.

"It doesn't look like the rain will stop anytime,"

"We have no choice, we have to sleep here,"

Now that we're here, it's kind of getting cold my battery about to die too. We can't use anything here aside from this couch and the fireplace doesn't look like it's still safe to use.

I woke up from reverie when Isaac suddenly pulled me closer to him and he enveloped me in a big warm hug.

"Body heat," was all he said.

I didn't argue with him about this one since I too am cold. I-It's not like I like his hug or anything! I'm just cold! That's right!

I was just going to close my eyes for a little bit but I guess I drifted to sleep.

I woke up feeling so hot, I was already lying down on the couch and Isaac used his handkerchief to put a wet cloth on my forehead.

Damn, this body is too weak. I wasn't even that wet from the rain and I'm already burning with fever.

My head is throbbing hard as if it's splitting into two, I can't even lift a finger.

My vision is getting blurry too, where's Isaac? Did he leave me?

I tried calling for him but I guess I couldn't even form a sound. And then he suddenly appeared before me,

"I'm here don't worry, I won't let go of your hand," he said softly.

I rested my head on his chest when he lifted me and wrapped me in a blanket.

Anyway, when morning arrived, I woke up from hearing camera shutters. When I opened my eyes I saw Hudson and Eleanor along with that man Howard or whatever his name is taking pictures.

My eyes landed on the man beside me and our current position. My eyes widened in embarrassment and quickly got up and moved centimeters away from Isaac.

Why the bloody hell is he half-naked? Nothing happened right? And why am I wearing his polo?

I looked at the two to ask questions when Isaac suddenly pulled me back to him. He placed his forehead close to mine with his eyes closed.

What is this? What's happening?

"You're fever's gone," he said relieved.

Fever? That's right! I had a fever last night! So, nothing happened right?

"W-We should go back,"

"Are you sure you should be moving right now?" Eleanor suddenly asked.

I turned around but my gaze wasn't on her but on.... bloody hell.
