Chapter 30
Kayla stayed at the hospital with Jake and Daisy keeping her company all through, Daisy called her office and informed them about her not coming back as the emergency was quite a serious one.
When the Doctor discharged Kayla Jake and Daisy took her back to the apartment.
Daisy has been using bits of her salary to add some things to the house, she upgraded the television and got a new bed.
"I'm happy you are back home Kayla, this place Miss you so so much" Daisy joked.
"Of course," Kayla said and replied and they both started laughing.
Daisy made a meal for Kayla and Jake. They all chatted over the meal.
Jake received a call and he had to leave, he hugged and pecked Kayla on the forehead and reminded her to take care of herself.
Daisy also thanked Jake for going to get Kayla and they bid each goodbye.
Days rolled into weeks and weeks into month, another month passed and Kayla was due to give birth the next month.
Bills started piling up again after the advance payment Kayla made had been used.
Xavier didn't leave her with anything and Kayla was broke. Daisy's salary was going into their father's treatment as well as her checkups.
Kayla couldn't do much as a result of her condition. She was either at home or at the hospital.
At one point, Kayla had to sell all the expensive dresses she had bought to recover the money that could sustain them before Daisy's next pay.
Kayla also had to buy little things for the baby as she already had a due date.
Jake and Daisy fawned over Kayla and took care of her in every possible way they could.
Kayla could only do little things by preparing meals for Daisy and keeping the house clean.
Her father's condition improved drastically and he regained consciousness but he wouldn't say a word.
Daisy talked about this to Doctor Evans and he reassured her that it would take time before he would be able to speak again.
Although Daisy was really worried, Doctor Evans reassured her that her father was recovering well.
Every day Kayla would sit beside her father and talk about everything but she was met with silence all the time.
One Faithful evening, Kayla had to go for a scan. The last scan before her delivery day, Daisy offered to go with her but Kayla refused.
Kayla insisted that Daisy remain at the hospital to accompany their father and she would go home to make dinner afterward.
When Kayla left the hospital room, it was just Daisy and her father.
Daisy then decided to sit close to her father and talk to him despite knowing that he wouldn't respond.
Before Daisy could say her word, she heard her father say something.
"I...have.. some…thing to tell you Daisy…" Thomas Williams, Daisy's father said as he struggled to put words together.
"You have been a good daughter but I have kept something away from you" Williams opened his palms for Daisy to place hers on it which she did.
"I am not your father," He said.
For a moment Daisy felt like the world had stopped, she couldn't breathe or think.
"What do you mean by that father?" Daisy asked as tears rolled down her eyes.
"I might have raised you, but I'm not your father," he said again.
"And I hope you find him one day, Daisy forgive me for just telling you now, your mom never wanted you to know about this, but life had a different plan for us"
Daisy didn't know what to think or how to process what she had just heard.
She called in the nurse to check up on her father who dozed off after revealing the truth to her.
Since they had no money to continue with the special procedure their father had been undergoing, the doctors resulted in normal methods.
Daisy was very skeptical about it but Doctor Evans assured her that since he had already improved, using the normal procedures to treat him was
okay.
Daisy asked the few nurses she could find in the hallway to direct her to the Doctor's Evans office which they did.
On getting to the office Daisy greeted the doctor and asked for her Father's medical report for the past months
"Daisy, a medical report is an official document that can only be handled by a specialist, I wouldn't be able to give that to you" Doctor Evans explained.
"Okay..can you please tell me if my father's sickness had affected his memory or brain?" Daisy asked.
Doctor Evans then pulled out the medical file and went through it one after the other.
*No Daisy, your father's brain and memory are still very intact, Although I can understand you are worried about him not speaking just give him some time" Doctor Evans advised.
"Thank you Doctor" Daisy said and as she was about to walk out Doctor Evans stopped her.
"Would you like to go out again with me?" He asked.
Daisy looked at him and turned down his offer, she just received the biggest revelation of her life and she didn't even know how to handle the information.
She couldn't tell this to Kayla, and not in Kayla's condition.
Daisy gathered herself and decided to pretend like nothing happened and she went back home.
Like every night, Kayla would always make something new and yummy, they would gist, eat, and then Kayla would fall asleep.
The next day as early as five, Daisy got a call from the hospital asking her to come over immediately.
Daisy thought about waking Kayla but decided not to.
She got dressed and left for the hospital immediately, on getting to her father's room, she saw that her father was already covered in white and she screamed.
The man she had called father all her life is dead.
