Chapter 27

Kayla tried to form words on how she could explain what happened between Bryan and her.

"He helped me a lot Xavier..things just went out of control and it happened okay," Kayla said.

"So..a man got you in an accident, helped you, gave you some money for compensation or what…then you offer him your body in return?" Xavier asked with sarcasm.

Kayla was hurt by this, tears concluded her vision, she tried to wipe the tears away but it didn't help matters.

"What was I thinking..you agreed to marry a stranger just for the benefits of course you would do anything for the money" Xavier added.

"Please stop it, Xavier, you are hurting me," Kayla said as the tears she tried to hide streamed down her eyes.

"Seriously… I.. am the one hurting you I can't believe it," Xavier continued as he stood up from the couch and headed to the bar to grab another bottle.

Kayla raised her head to see Xavier, but disgust was written all over his face, there was no trace of pity on his face, not like she expected him to pity her but he should be able to understand her.

"You have two options, Kayla" Xavier stated.

" You can either terminate this pregnancy and we can live our lives to the fullest till whenever you are ready for it or immediately you give birth you have to leave my house and our contract will be annulled" Xavier added.

Kayla's heart broke even more when she heard what Xavier said, the baby growing in her is a symbol of a passionate night she spent with Bryan and she couldn't bring herself to terminate the pregnancy.

"I will call my doctor now to set up the date," Xavier said as he brought out his phone to make a call.

"No Xavier I cannot terminate this pregnancy" Kayla uttered weakly.

"What are you saying? I am offering you a second chance at life, we can get rid of this pregnancy, I can forgive you, and we can start afresh" Xavier stated.

"I cannot...Xavier, I'm sorry but I cannot bring myself to do so, " Kayla said in return.

"You don't even know the father of the baby…and you will choose that baby over me?" Xavier said.

" Xavier I just can't kill the innocent baby, it's inhumane" Kayla protested.

"Your final decision?" Xavier asked.

Kayla gulped, there was silence for a few seconds.

"Yes" Kayla responded and immediately Xavier slammed the glass he was holding and Kayla covered her ears in fright.

"When you give birth to that baby, you leave my house with nothing, are you still on that decision?" Xavier asked.

"Yes," Kayla replied, whimpering.

"Alright," Xavier said and walked out of the house slamming the door heavily.

Kayla wrapped herself on the couch and cried herself to sleep.

On the other side, Daisy was having quite a good time with Doctor Evans although she was still worried about Kayla. Doctor Evans proved to be a good companion.

Over the months while she stayed behind to take care of her Father, Doctor Evans was the assisting doctor in charge of her father's case.

From time to time they would have little conversations about the tiniest things and sometimes Daisy would find herself staring at him for longer minutes.

The day she had gone to receive the divorce papers from the court, on her way back after Kayla had called her she had entered a room and was crying, unknown to her it was a lounge for doctors and Doctor Evans walked in on her crying.

He had comforted her and never asked her the reason why she was crying and to date he never did.

Sometimes when she was all alone he would bring her fruits and snacks and keep her company for a while.

Daisy thought he just pitied her but she liked him.

After Daisy and Doctor Evans finished with their food they talked for a while and Doctor Evans offered to drop Daisy home but she refused.

He then booked a ride for her and she accepted the ride, she got in and waved him goodbye.

Daisy got home and tried to reach Kayla but to no avail.

The next morning when Kayla woke up she realized that she had slept on the couch and her phone was dead, she quickly lowered her phone as she started cleaning the glass Xavier broke last night.

When she was done cleaning, she showered and checked Xavier's room but he wasn't back home yet.

She then called Daisy and reassured her that she was fine and there was nothing to worry about.

Daisy then told her to come to the hospital and she would meet her after she was done with work.

Kayla tried calling Jake and this time she was able to reach him after the first ring, Jake answered the call.

"Kayla….I have been trying to reach you" Jake stated.

" I. I am... everything is fine" Kayla said, she didn't want to tell Jake about the whole incident over the phone.

"Well...I would love to believe that but I know you and you don't sound anything like fine" Jake argued.

" I will be at your place in the next one hour, I just got back," Jake added.

"No no no no you can't come to Xavier's house, I will meet you anywhere else but not here I will come to your apartment," Kayla said.

"Alright" Jake agreed and Kayla ended the call.

Kayla got dressed and wrote a note for Xavier, she had already packed her things and was willing to leave but she couldn't until Xavier was back to the house.

She booked a cab and within minutes she was already at Jake's apartment. She got in and saw that Jake was cooking.

"Jake, everything is over," Kayla said as she dropped her bag on the floor then she sank to her knees.
