Chapter 13
" I feel so fly right now, we finally have a house" Kayla said happily as she twirled.
Jake watched his best friend while munching on his chicken sandwich, the Agent was kind enough to buy them a snack while going through all those boring processes of renting a house and now he was on house accessories shopping with Kayla.
Kayla only picked out the necessary things: a few groceries, some clothes, a mattress of course, and some kitchenware, she also got a mini television and her money was exhausted.
Jake helped Kayla move everything she had gotten, they rented a car to make two trips from Jake's house to the new house and it was quite a distance.
Everything moved, now it was time to clean and arrange although the previous person who rented the house left behind some few reusable stuff like the couch and a functioning freezer, although not Fully functioning but it could work.
Jake helped Kayla out around everything and in few hours, everything was done, everywhere clean and set,
A functioning Kitchen, Bedspace and TV were good.
Kayla felt proud of herself as she scanned the whole setup, the house had a heater so everywhere was cool and cozy, the movies she had promised her sister were also ready and there will also be homemade meals.
This made Kayla teary, "you are such a crybaby and so emotional please, put yourself together I have a surprise for you" Jack teased as he hugged Kayla,
"Thank you for doing this with me Jake, I'm so grateful believe me," Kayla said,
"Don't thank me yet, until you see what I have for you" Jake replied as he smiled at Kayla, " come on let's go he said as he pulled Kayla along with him
"But where are we going too"? Kayla asked as they had taken so many turns already and she was exhausted,
"We are almost there, don't be a lazy ass" Jake teased,
Kayla looked at him with an angry expression which didn't last and Jake burst out in laughter,
"You always do this Jake, make fun of me all the time", Kayla said putting on a pitiful expression,
"Fix that face baby girl we are here already" Jake said as he stopped in front of what looks like a diner,
"What are we doing here Jake? I'm really in no mood to drink, I just want to be with Daisy and Da…"
But Jake cuts her short, "we are not here for either of that, Kayla relax and comes with me" Jake said with a cheeky smile as he opened the door of the diner for Kayla to walk in.
Kayla walked into the diner and the place was almost empty but it was large, with many tables and chairs surrounding it. It was really a diner setting but at the Corner was a very wide bar, shelves of drinks ran through from one end to the other, Everything smelled clean and warm.
As Kayla observed the whole place totally In awe of the simplicity yet totally out of the world decor, the manager of the diner walked out from the kitchen,
"Aye..Jake my man, you are here already, this interrupted Kayla thoughts as she turned to see whose voice she just heard,
She turned to see Jake hugging the man, but he was an average man, probably in his mid fifties but he looked agile and fit, with neatly trimmed hair, he had this warm feeling.
"Greetings sir," Kayla uttered weirdly she tried looking at Jake for some signals of what she was doing here but Jake gaze remained fixed on the man,
"No sir..child, call me John, I'm the owner of this fine diner," Jake reached out to me saying "you needed a Job, and well luckily I was also In need of an assistant bartender," He said In one goal while smiling.
"Woah…" Kayla turned to look at Jake as tears streamed down her eyes she quickly rushed over to his side and hugged him tightly,
"Ja..ke..what would I do without you" Kayla said as more tears rolled down her eyes,
Jake patted her hair while hugging her back, "Maybe nothing" he teased again, and this made Kayla to pull back as she gave him a stern look while Jake broke into laughter.
"But you haven't accepted the job yet Young lady," John said as he walked over to the bar,
"Pardon my manners sir.. sorry Jo..hn..yes yes..I don't mind I will take on the offer, I will literally do anything" Kayla said as she dries up her tears while totalling pulling away from Jake,
But this sent John into a fit of laughter and Jake joined him as well,
"Alright dear come on in here, your shifts starts today by 9pm I should teach you the basics at least" John replied,
"Alright"
"Make yourself useful Jake, Make us a meal would ya"? John asked.
"Alright alright, I will make steak and potatoes, how does that sound"?
"Fine by me" Kayla and John chorused at the same time as Jake shakes his head walking into the kitchen.
Kayla made a mental note to ask Jake how he was so familiar with John while they had dinner.
So, while Jake was in the kitchen making steak and potatoes for Kayla and John, John taught Kayla all the basic stuffs she needed to know, He also told her that she might have to act as a waitress on some nights and maybe also stay in kitchen if there was shortage of hands,
But Kayla was up for everything and anything so she listened and accepted it with no issues,
John taught her how to mix simple cocktails and mocktails and also how to pour out beer properly.
By the time the lessons were done Jake served the meal and they all ate while having a hearty discussion.
Jake and Kayla left the diner at 6pm as they headed to the hospital,. immediately Kayla opened the door of the ward she screamed,
"Sis I got a job"!
