Chapter 87
Looking at Nelson, she was shocked to notice that the two men were still staring at each other in silence, and seemed to be communicating through their eyes, without uttering a word, as if they were having a tense conversation.
Not wanting any tension between the two men, especially in front of Théo, Lilian promptly got up from her seat and greeted Nelson warmly.
“Grandpa, you're right on time!” Lilian greeted him warmly as she guided him to his chair. “Come have lunch with us.”
When Lilian wanted to show Nelson an empty chair, he refused and sat down in her place, and she was stunned. Before she could say anything, Nelson called Antonio.
“Antonio, can you put Lilian's plate next to Ethan's?” Nelson asked casually, but Lilian was perplexed to hear his instructions.
“Yes, sir!” Antonio quickly moved Lilian's plate and cutlery closer to Ethan.
Lilian was nervous to see how quickly they moved her to sit next to Ethan, and she felt as if that man was trying something shameful again, like setting up a date between her and his grandson. Again!?
Somehow, she felt like she wanted to disappear from that place.
Lilian wanted to refuse, but when she saw Nelson ignore her and start talking to Theo, she dismissed the idea and turned her gaze back to Ethan, who, seeing her smile sweetly at him, swallowed hard, looked away, and walked to his seat.
Ethan was annoyed by his grandfather's sudden arrival, but now he slowly calmed down when he saw Lilian sitting next to him, and a satisfied smile appeared on his lips as everyone began to eat as a family, and he felt blessed.
The family lunch continued with Nelson Legrand joining them, and Nelson insisted on helping Théo with lunch, although Théo seemed a little annoyed by his grandfather's help.
On the other hand, Ethan felt excited because Lilian was sitting next to him, and his smile never left his face, however, he was surprised when he looked at her and saw her fierce gaze.
“Why are you looking at me like you want to eat me?” Ethan put his cutlery on his plate and leaned in to ask. “Well, I don't mind if you want to devour me, Lilian. Just say so!” When Lilian wanted to respond, Ethan spoke again, and a soft laugh escaped his lips, making Lilian roll her eyes.
“You said this lunch was just for us, but why did your grandfather show up all of a sudden?” Lilian asked in a voice so low that only Ethan could hear.
Lilian wondered if Ethan had set a trap for her again, and she narrowed her eyes, staring at him.
“Would you believe me if I said I don't have the answer to your question either? I have no idea how he found out I live here, because I told them I was staying at my apartment the whole time.” He replied as he contemplated her beauty.
Seeing the seriousness in Ethan's eyes, Lilian was a little confused.
“That's strange, isn't it?” She still doubted that Nelson knew Ethan was there without someone telling him.
Did Suelen Legrand already know that Ethan lived next door to her?
This thought began to worry her. If her evil ex-mother-in-law found out, she might come here, and she would definitely know about Theo.
“I think he's following me now...” Ethan sighed deeply as he looked at his grandfather, who seemed so happy talking to Theo.
Lilian continued eating, but it didn't take long for a thought to cross her mind. She paused and looked at Ethan.
“Does he know that this place was one of his properties?”
“He does, and frankly speaking, your grandfather's house was...” Ethan paused when Antonio suddenly appeared beside him. “What is it?”
It took a few seconds for Ethan's expression to turn pale upon hearing Antonio's words, and everyone in the room was surprised to see Ethan's expression change.
“What happened, Ethan?” asked Lilian, who had the same expression as Nelson, and the two looked at Ethan, worried.
“It's nothing!” Ethan replied, and he wiped his mouth with a napkin before standing up and looking at her. “I'll be right back.” He apologized and left, with Antonio right behind him.
“Are you okay, Ethan?” Nelson asked when he saw Ethan outside, who was also starting to get worried.
Ethan stopped, looking at his grandfather and Theo.
“Everything's fine. Keep eating. I'll be right back...”
Théo continued eating, while Nelson and Lilian couldn't enjoy their meal, their eyes still fixed on the door leading to the main entrance.
“It looks like someone's coming!” Suddenly, Nelson's voice echoed through the room, breaking the silence. “Is he expecting someone?”
Lilian was a little surprised to hear Nelson's question because she didn't know the answer, but she was getting tense, wanting to know who would show up next. She hoped it wasn't the person she had in mind, Suelen Legrand, because if that woman showed up, Lilian could imagine that her days would no longer be peaceful.
“I don't know, Grandpa!” She sighed deeply before answering Nelson, then looked at her son, and Theo seemed to sense his mother's gaze and turned to face her.
Lilian knew that although Théo didn't seem to care about what they were discussing, he had heard everything and understood the situation, and that boy was exceptionally perceptive for his age.
She tried to lighten the mood and distract him from his worries.
“Honey, do you need anything else to eat?” she asked, and Theo shook his head.
“I'm full, Mom. But I still have room for dessert...” His eyes twinkled at her, and Lilian was amused to see how adorable Theo looked now, wanting his dessert.
“Of course...”
“Ah, my dear Théo, would you like dessert?” Nelson interrupted her, and seeing Théo nod, he called a maid who was standing by in the dining room. “Could you bring dessert for Théo?”
The waitress nodded and immediately returned to the kitchen, and shortly thereafter, several pairs of footsteps could be heard coming from the living room, causing Lilian to turn her eyes to the door.
Lilian's nervous hands were clenched tightly in her lap, eager to know who this person was who would be joining them, and not only was Lilian curious, but Nelson was too, and he looked at the door with a deep frown.
