Chapter 29

Chapter 29
“Your father told me that!” Carlos replied. “Lilian, did you really ask for that, or did your father lie to me?”

Lilian had always suspected that her father had done so, but after receiving confirmation from her grandfather, she couldn't help but smile bitterly.

“No, I never asked them to do that!” she said.

Carlos Arbex straightened his back, feeling as if all the blood in his body was about to rush to his face, and was shocked to hear this.

“How dare Leandro do this to you?” His voice sounded furious when he spoke. “And also, how dare he lie to me?”

“Sir, please calm down!” Nicholas suddenly stood beside Carlos and handed him a glass of water. “Please drink this first, sir, and stop challenging your blood pressure, or this time, you really might end up in the emergency room!” he said worriedly.

Lilian also became concerned when she saw her grandfather's face turn red.

“Grandpa, don't worry about it, because believe me when I say this, but I'm really relieved that my marriage never became public, because it would be a bigger problem if people found out that I was Ethan Legrand's wife.” She convinced her grandfather.

When Carlos heard this, he could only see the good in his granddaughter and how she had become a strong woman.
“Lilian, it doesn't matter if it was good or bad, but I need to apologize to you!” After drinking his water, Carlos looked at his granddaughter with a guilty look. “Please accept this old fool's apology, my dear granddaughter, please.” His eyes and tone of voice showed that he was sincere in asking Lilian for forgiveness.

“Stop it, Grandpa, you will always have my forgiveness!” Lilian smiled at him before continuing. “But please, Grandpa, can we stop talking about this? I'm fine now, so you don't need to worry so much about me!” She tried to convince him once again.

“All right, if you want to let it go, let's do that, but now, tell me about yourself, my daughter. You look healthy and more beautiful now, after your rest in Europe!” He said curiously.

When he learned that his granddaughter had moved to Europe, he was shocked, as he had no relatives there, but he stopped worrying when she told him she was fine.

Now he really wanted to know everything she was doing in the foreign country, and although they had talked several times, Lilian had never explained in detail what she was doing there, which made him curious.

“I just took care of some business there, it was a friend of mine who asked for help!” Lilian wasn't entirely honest with him.

She couldn't reveal to her grandfather that she was one of the company's shareholders.

“So, you're not going to stay there anymore?” Carlos asked.

Lilian smiled at her grandfather before telling him about her plan to move to the capital, after all, she would be taking care of the company's branch office. However, Lilian still hadn't told him about her son, and she didn't have a chance because her grandfather seemed interested in her company.

“That's good to hear, my dear. How many days will you be here?”

“A week!” Lilian explained hastily when she saw his expression turn sad. “I promise I'll visit you more often, Grandpa.”

“Yes. You should, because from now on, I'll be following Nelson Legrand.” Carlos Arbex sighed deeply before continuing. “I'm moving to the countryside to live there. I can't stand being in the capital anymore, because your uncle is causing me a lot of stress.”

Lilian was surprised to learn that Carlos Legrand no longer lived in the capital, but in Araraquara, in the countryside. It was hard for her to believe.

“Grandpa, I'm glad to hear that. After all, the countryside is a better place for you to retire.” Lilian paused for a moment before continuing. “But, Grandpa, why did Nelson Legrand move here?”

“You really don't know?” he asked, and Lilian nodded.

“After you divorced, Nelson was furious, and he scolded the whole family, and because of that, he decided to return to his hometown, and he doesn't even see his grandson or his son anymore!”

Upon hearing the news, Lilian was completely shocked.

At that moment, she didn't know whether to feel happy or sad.
She was happy that Nelson Legrand was by her side, but also sad to know that he had to live alone in the mansion, far away from his family.

“Grandpa, I'm sorry for him...” Lilian didn't know how to continue the sentence, and could only take a deep breath as she looked outside, trying to hide her tears.
Meanwhile, at Dahma Village Mansion, on the other side of town, Ethan arrived at the mansion and greeted one of the security guards politely.

“Miguel, is my grandfather home? I need to talk to him!” Ethan said to the man standing in front of the door, preventing him from entering.

“I'm sorry, Mr. Ethan, but your grandfather will not see you!” said the assistant seriously.

“Are you serious, Miguel? It's been almost six years since the divorce, and how many times will I have to ask for forgiveness?”

Miguel said nothing and just looked down, feeling sorry for the young man in front of him.

Ethan frowned thoughtfully, as he needed to see his grandfather, and after a while, a slight smile appeared on the corner of his lips, and he looked at Miguel again.

“It's okay. If Grandpa still refuses to see me, then just tell him that she's back!”

When Ethan finished saying “her,” the mansion door opened, and a man in his late sixties came out.

“What do you want?” His voice was deep and firm, sounding like that of a leader. “If you don't leave right now, Ethan, I'll call security to get you out.”

Ethan smiled secretly when he saw his grandfather, as it had been more than six years since they last saw each other, but Nelson looked as healthy as he did last time.
The only difference was that there were more wrinkles.

“I told you the truth, Grandpa, Lilian is back in Brazil!” Ethan's voice was low and soft as he tried to persuade his grandfather.

“Don't try to fool me, Ethan!” warned Nelson, who turned to face Ethan with his piercing blue eyes.

However, Ethan smiled even more, because he knew that his plan to find and talk to his grandfather had worked. But what intrigued Ethan the most was that he was only interested in talking about Lilian, and no other subject in the world would make him open the door.

When Nelson found out about the divorce, he was so angry with them that he decided to move to that area, far from the capital and his business, and closed the door on him and his parents.
He would refuse to see them, even if they came begging to see him.

At first, Ethan thought that, with time, his grandfather would calm down and forgive them, but he was wrong, and even now, his grandfather's attitude towards the matter remains the same.
He defends Lilian and blames Ethan for divorcing her without consulting him first.
