Chapter 59 His Misbehavior Tonight
Various sounds filled the bar, instead of flirting around, Eric just sat with Joseph and drank.
"I mean, you're drinking too hard."
He couldn't stand it anymore. Joseph had been pouring drinks all night without saying a word. What the hell happened?
Joseph once again finished the drink in his cup, slammed the glass heavily on the table. He leaned back and tilted his head against the sofa, casually loosening his tie around his neck.
Eric could tell he was drunk. As a friend, he couldn't just leave Joseph alone. Eric stood up to help Joseph, muttering, "Dr. Lucas, you really are quite a handful."
It was already early morning. Joseph, in this state, probably didn't want to go home.
Eric took Joseph to a hotel near the bar and got a room. Finally he managed to get him into the room, sitting on the sofa. Just as he caught his breath, Joseph, with his eyes closed against the sofa, said, "You can leave."
Eric didn't hear him. He walked over panting and asked, "What did you say?"
"I said, you can go." Joseph opened his eyes, his wrist resting on his forehead, staring at the ceiling light. His dark eyes filled with a heavy mist, making it hard to see clearly.
"How am I supposed to leave you like this?" Eric was stunned. He really had guts. With glass shards still in his palm, he didn't even frown and he refused help.
Joseph was almost incoherent now, yet he wanted Eric to leave. Did he think he was Superman?
But Eric knew Joseph's character better than anyone else. He was always firm in his decisions.
After a moment of thought, Eric tentatively asked, "How about I call Harper for you?"
Joseph glanced coldly at him, but he didn't show any sign of refusal.
"Got it."
Eric gave a knowing look and went to get Joseph's phone.
"Unlock it."
Joseph frowned but didn't move. "Do you want me to use my phone to call? I don't have Harper's number! Let me check her number."
Eric thought he felt like a fool tonight! He looked at Joseph, who seemed drunk, unlocking the phone with his fingerprint.
As he searched for Harper's number, Eric muttered, "Looks like tonight is all about Harper."
Joseph squinted and remained silent. His slender fingers pressed against his temple.
Eric breathed a sigh of relief and finally dialed Harper's number on his phone.
"Hello, who's this?"
The phone connected. Harper's voice sounded hoarse and a bit confused. She probably just woken up by his call after crying herself to sleep.
Eric glanced at Joseph subconsciously. He didn't seem to be reacting. He was really good at pretending.
"Harper, it's Eric Baker."
Eric deliberately spoke loudly so the man beside him could hear. "Joseph had a bit too much to drink and injured his hand. I got him a room at the Moonlight Hotel. It's room 606. Can you come over tonight to take care of him? I have my girlfriend waiting for me, so I need to go back."
Harper had indeed just been awakened by the call, her voice slightly hoarse.
She sat up slowly, furrowing her brows slightly. Joseph had drunk too much?
But thinking about what he had done to her tonight, Harper bit her lip and directly refused. "I'm not coming."
Eric didn't expect her to refuse so decisively. He paused for a moment and said, "He really had drunk a lot, and his hand was still bleeding. Are you sure you want to leave him alone here?"
Harper pursed her lips, and made up her mind after a moment. "I said I'm not coming. Goodbye."
A few seconds later, Eric, looking at the hung-up phone, felt a bit lost.
He turned to Joseph. He didn't look good, apparently having heard Harper's words.
"Dr. Lucas, your wife is quite an ingrate." Even in a normal friendship, shouldn't she at least show some concern after hearing what he just said?
Joseph remained unmoved. His hazy eyes now carried a hint of coldness and said coldly, "You can go."
Eric looked at him with a bit skeptical. "Are you sure you can handle it alone?"
But then he remembered Joseph was a doctor. He should know his condition.
"Alright. I won't bother you anymore. Call me if you need anything."
With that, Eric put on his coat, sighed. "You are so hammered." And he left.
Soon, the room fell silent. At this moment, Joseph wanted to see Harper.
But she didn't even want to look at him. Had his behavior tonight completely disappointed her?
At that moment, his phone vibrated, and Joseph's eyes lit up.
But when he saw "Olivia" flashing on the screen, his expression became gloomy again. His slender fingers slid to answer the call.
"Joseph, are you asleep?"
"Not yet."
Olivia called so late because she had an academic question for Joseph. but she could tell something was off in his voice.
"Are you feeling unwell?"
Joseph pinched his brow, his drunken voice becoming more magnetic. "Just had a bit to drink."
"Where are you?"
Without much thought, he shifted. "Moonlight Hotel, getting ready to sleep."
"Alright. Have some hot water and rest soon."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Joseph glanced at Harper's number. His fingers twitched slightly, but he didn't dial.
His lips tightened, tossing the phone aside.
In the middle of the night, Harper tossed and turned in bed, clearly disturbed by the recent call.
He had been drinking and injured. Didn't he consider going home or to the hospital?
She couldn't help but think of his misbehavior tonight.
Was he drunk because of this?
She tried to clear her mind of the chaotic thought by shaking her head. She couldn't calm down and eventually sat up.
She sighed.
In just a few minutes, she quickly put on her clothes, called a car, and headed to the Moonlight Hotel. When Harper arrived, it was already 2 a.m. After registering at the front desk, she took the elevator to the sixth floor. Standing outside room 606, Harper hesitated.
After a brief internal struggle, she finally rang the doorbell.
Half a minute later, the door opened from the inside. There stood Joseph in a bathrobe. The robe was loosely tied around his waist, revealing his muscular chest.
