Chapter 56 Moving in with Me
Harper looked at Henry and Mia, then at the expressionless Joseph below, and awkwardly explained, "This is my brother."
Mia was even more puzzled. "Harper, I've never heard that you have a brother before?"
"He's not my biological brother."
Brian took over. "When I was young, I was adopted for a while. I lived in Harper's house for a few years, growing up with her."
"Oh, I see."
Mia and Henry suddenly realized. "So, it's more than just a working relationship between the Lucas Group and the T-shine Company!"
"T-shine?" Harper was surprised. "Isn't that the company I work for? Brian, are you the boss?"
"Yes."
Brian nodded. "I just found out this morning that you're an intern at our company."
"Oh my goodness! Have we missed each other so many times?"
Harper felt regretful, thinking it was quite unbelievable that they hadn't met while working in the same company.
Looking at her expression, Brian couldn't help but smile. "It's okay. We've met now."
Joseph stood by silently, not saying a word.
Such a coincidence.
Patrick wasn't resolved before, and now Brian had appeared.
Thinking of this, Joseph felt his temples throb with anger. He wished he could immediately bring Harper over.
"Yes. We have a long time ahead." After Henry finished speaking, he noticed Joseph's gloomy expression. He patted him and said, "The ceremony is about to begin. Come and help me."
Joseph instinctively frowned. He glanced deeply at Harper and eventually followed along.
Henry walked a bit further and quietly told Mia, "Let's get the emcee to start soon. It's uncomfortable for them with so many people watching."
Next, Henry and Mia's wedding proceeded smoothly.
Harper watched their affectionate appearance from the audience, feeling deeply moved.
She wondered if she would have such a wedding in the future.
After the banquet, it was time for everyone to gather.
When the melodious music played, someone took the lead and invited their female companions to dance.
Joseph followed Henry around toasting, but his mind was elsewhere, and his expression wasn't pleasant.
Through the dancing crowd, Joseph's gaze fell on the two people chatting and laughing in the distance. He felt uneasy.
He glanced at Henry, who was engrossed in conversation nearby, set down his glass and prepared to approach Harper.
"Joseph."
Olivia walked over with a smile, eagerly looking at the people on the dance floor. "Can you dance with me? It's been so long since I danced."
Joseph remained silent.
He raised his gaze, only to observe Brian suddenly lowering his head, engaging Harper in conversation of which he was unaware. Subsequently, both of them stood up and left.
In the hotel garden, Harper sighed. "It's a bit noisy inside. It's much quieter out here."
"Brian, where have you been all these years? Not a single word from you. And you come back as the company's boss."
She was eager to know about Brian's situation over the years.
"Overseas." Brian glossed over it. "T-shine is a branch of Simbara. I came back to take a position."
"Were you used to the living habits abroad? Where have you been living? Why did you suddenly decide to come back? Why didn't you contact me all these years?"
Listening to Harper's questions, Brian couldn't help but chuckle, rubbing her head.
"Why are you still as problematic as before?"
Harper glared at him. "That's because you've been gone for so long. I don't know a lot of things about you, and you don't know a lot about me."
She naturally referred to Benjamin's passing.
Brian looked at her with a pained expression. "Harper, have you been doing okay all these years?"
Harper nodded. "I've been okay."
She paused and added, "There was a time when things weren't great, but it's all in the past. In retrospect, it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal."
Brian stopped in his tracks. "I'm sorry. I came back too late, leaving you to go through so much alone."
"It's okay." Because they had just talked about Benjamin, Harper felt a bit sad, but she forced a smile. "It's good to have you back."
In those days, with someone helping her, things weren't as difficult as she had anticipated.
"I'll be here from now on." Brian looked into her eyes. "I won't leave you alone again."
"I know. If you dare to leave again, I really won't talk to you anymore! By the way, where have you been living abroad?"
Brian's eyes sparkled. "I'll tell you later."
His current family situation wasn't something that could be explained in a few words.
"Oh. I went back to the old house to find you before. Why weren't you still living there?"
Harper nodded, looking down. "I didn't want to live alone. I missed Dad."
She was contemplating whether to tell Brian about the marriage.
But she and Joseph were secretly married, and they were about to divorce.
She had just heard them mention that The Lucas Group and T-shine were about to collaborate. Would it have any impact if she said it now?
'Maybe it's better not to mention it. For now, there's no need,' She pondered.
"Where are you living now?"
Harper blinked. "I'm living with a friend now. He takes good care of me, so you don't need to worry."
Brian nodded, then spoke, "In that case, why don't you move in with me?"
