Chapter 31

Grant’s POV

Rose. She was all I could think about for the past two months: about how I loved her, about how I did her wrong…

Her hair.

Her smile.

Her.

Why did I cheat on her? How could I have even considered doing something like that to her? I was so fucking stupid, and now I’d lost the best thing that had ever happened to me.

What the hell was it going to take to win her back? Whatever it was, I’d do it.

I needed someone on the inside, someone who knew Rose better than she knew herself… I had it!

Jumping off my bed, I snatched up my phone and quickly dialling in the number. He picked up on the third ring.

“Hello?”

“Hey, this is Ryan. Right? Look, it’s me, Grant,” I said, only just managing to get my words out before I heard the dial tone. He hung up on me!

But of course he would hand up on me. Why the hell did I think he was even going to help me? He was Rose’s best friend; of course he was going to hate me too.

I was such an asshole…

There was no hope of getting Rose back after what I’d done. I was stupid to think any differently.

And then my phone rang…

***Ryan’s POV***

“Rose! Rose! Rose!” I chanted, jumping up and down on her bed to get her attention.

I heard her sigh. “Ryan! Stop acting like a child, would you? It’s kind of annoying.”

Ugh, boring Rose makes yet another appearance. I swear that ever since Grant broke her heart, she was acting as if all the fun was sucked out of her and had it replaced with dull, dull and dull! Don’t get me wrong, I hated what Grant did to Rose even more than the next guy, but I’ve seen how he looks at her- when she’s not looking, that is.

And that new kid- the really cute one I’d be hitting on right this moment if I wasn’t with Jason- seemed to be taking a keen interest in my Rose, not that she’d ever notice. If I’m right, she probably won’t date anyone now until she’s thirty. And let’s face it, I’m always right.

I plopped down on her bed and rested my chin in my hands, watching her. She looked as if she’d forgotten about me acting childish before, or even me being there altogether… Rose was just looking into the distance, eyes sad. My guess was that she was thinking about Grant again.

Like I said, I did hate Grant for what he did to my best friend. But she was just so miserable without him, and I actually, genuinely thought that they were good together.

My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,

And they're like, it's better than yours,

Damn right, it's better than yours,

I can teach you, but I have to charge.

Huh, I didn’t recognize the number. “Hello?” I asked, flipping open my phone.

“Hey, this is Ryan. Right?” a voice asked. “Look, it’s me, Grant.”

Grant?! How did he even get my number? That wasn’t the important thing, though. Should I hear what he had to say? Maybe it was important… But not here, not in front of Rose. I looked up at her cautiously, but she was still lost in her own little world.

I hung up the call and snatched my jacket up from her bed. “Rose?” I said, and her eyes met mine. “Jase just called me; he wants to hang out.”

“Okay,” she nodded. “Just wait a sec. I’ll go and get my jacket.”

Oops… “Oh, um, Rose. He wants to hang out, you know, just me and him,” I lied.

The look on her face turned from sad to heart-breaking, and it almost made me tell her the truth- almost. She just looked so lonely. And she’d lost so much weight in the past two months.

I was doing this for her own good.

“Oh, ok,” she said quietly.

“I’ll see you later?” I asked, making sure she knew I still wanted to spend time with her.

She nodded.

I left Rose’s house and slid into my Ferrari. Yup, that’s right- my Ferrari. Prepare to get jealous now, bitches. My older brother bought it for me last year. He’s like thirty and’s a really good lawyer, so he’s super rich. We got on really well, which is more than I can say for my relationship with my parents. They didn’t exactly approve of the whole ‘gay’ fiasco. They were born in the era where people didn’t believe in gays, never mind accept them.

My brother was the only person in my familywho truly accepted what I was, and I loved him for that.

Anyway, before I drove off Rose’s driveway, I pulled out my phone and called Grant back up.

He picked up on the first ring. “Hello?”

“It’s Ryan,” I told him. “You called before? Sorry I hung up. I was kind of busy.”

“It’s okay, but I need your help.”

“With what?” I asked, but I already knew the answer.

“Getting Rose back.”
