Ch152 Fenris’s Worst Night
Starting at the beginning, Fenris told Leo of how Sasa became who she was. Explaining the home, she came from, that she battled for her life, then got buried alive in snow. As it was, they should have known how strong she was back then, but only thought it a fluke that Sasa had reached out to Marith and Fenris. The touch was so slight Fenris had ignored it, but when Marith wanted to explore it Fenris changed his mind. Found with a werewolf, and half frozen they took her home. She was such a cute innocent kid. They watched over her for the first several years as Dagrim allowed her to play human if she could keep her vampirism a secret. It worked until she was attacked by more vampires. Fenris healed Sasa from the fight she had won. It had been a harsh battle with half a dozen vampires and nearly two dozen of their ghouls. Sköll, the werewolf who had stayed at her side, hadn't approved with how Fenris had healed Sasa and tried to kill him. The stupid girl pushed Fenris out of the way and took Sköll's fangs in his stead. Again, Sasa nearly died. Luckily, she didn't, she only fell into a deep sleep for a few weeks. After that she became a werewolf, and almost tried to eat her family. The only one she hurt was Fenris because he knew if he held her, he could calm her. It had worked from the time they first met, and after the fear of her death Fenris realized he loved her. A special kind of love he had only felt once before and knew he wanted her for the rest of his life.
During her first transformation, Sasa tried to run away again because she was afraid of killing her family. Sasa hated killing, she still didn't enjoy it, but knew it was necessary sometimes. Fenris found her again and took her home and showed her how much he loved her, no matter what form she had. It made her happy to know he cared for her just as she cared for him, but her fear of what she had become was too great. She asked her father if they could still go to Egypt. They did, but they were only gone for about half a year. Something impossible had happened. However, as they were learning, with Sasa the most impossible was possible.
New life had formed and grown inside her belly. The glow Sasa had as a pregnant mother made her even more beautiful than she was now. Dagrim finally allowed Fenris to marry her and he did. Fenris made everything perfect for his bride. Sasa was so full of life you couldn't tell by looking at her that she wasn't human. A few of the wedding guests even questioned Fenris about taking a human bride. Since vampires can hear blood flow and knew she was pregnant, Fenris just smiled and said it was his problem of having a human wife. His babysitters knew and nosey people should keep to themselves. After the wedding they ventured to Finland because Sasa wanted to get as close to Fenris’s homeland as they could. Also, she had never been and there was so much Fenris could share with her. After the honeymoon, they visited Chicago for some pizza. She had never been to Mardi Gras either, so when she requested to stay, he didn't see the harm. How he wished, even more so now, that he had said no. That they should return home and have the baby and then next year they could come back. No was not a word easily said to his wife. She still looked so cute, so innocent, Sasa was still so young and full of life. Fenris, then and now, wanted to give her the world and the stars beyond if it was in his power to do so.
Sasa and Fenris had fun and got blood drunk off all the party animals in the streets. It was fun to see his wife act so wild and flirty and like a real vampire. They were drinking responsibly and only taking small amounts so the victims remained unharmed. There was no reason to be attacked other than the fact they were vampires. It only took one DMB dart to take Sasa down. Fenris panicked, he wasn't sure what DMB would do to his wife let alone the baby. If the baby was lost Sasa would never forgive herself, and neither could Fenris forgive himself for letting such pain touch his wife. It had only been a few short weeks that he had vowed on his life to protect her for eternity. Fighting to protect his family, Fenris took several jabs of the poison before he fell.
Once he awoke, he was alone. He demanded to see his wife. The ignorant humans in front of him jeered and told him the woman was safe and that he better concern himself with his own skin. Fenris used his telepathic and telekinetic abilities to kill all but the most timid feeling person in the room. Again, he demanded to see his wife. Once he had Sasa he would tell them what they wanted to know. More poison was injected into him as they asked why she was worth dying over. Fenris just shook his head, but admitted she was special. That little girl was worth more than him, and worth more alive. If anything befell her, Fenris feared for the world. He had never seen her father upset, but the loss of Sasa would upset him to a degree he most likely hadn't felt since he was changed thousands of years ago. Fenris found out years later that they had been tormenting Sasa, making her werewolf blood boil. They mistook that, and her intolerance to DMB, for her being feral. They also threatened her baby, which made her vampire and werewolf blood rage.
That was the first time she had used blood magic to filter out toxins. There were no cool attack dragons, she just made it so the blood that poured from her wounds was the toxic blood. When they were reunited, she latched on to Fenris, crying with relief and joy. He knew she needed blood, but instructed her to wait. The fools would have misunderstood and killed her. She needed blood from her injuries and from being pregnant. The baby taxed her body so heavily that no matter how much of his richer blood he gave her she never seemed full or changed deeper into her vampire blood like she was now. They had no idea if this was normal or not, vampires had never had a baby before. Sasa fought hard to protect her family, which ended up in her using blood magic again. Only this time it was to kill.
She had turned her blood into deadly blades of blood and cut down the hunters with it. They wanted to swarm on her, Fenris summoned the last of his strength to knock them all over. A stake was driven through his heart. Sasa freaked out and couldn't stop them as they staked her in silver. She hadn't known stakes don't kill normally. However, when she woke up, she knew she should be dead, silver had pierced her heart. Her heart felt strange, then her abdomen. There were still deep incisions across her chest and stomach that had only started to heal. An empty, dark, surreal feeling washed over Sasa as she realized she had no baby, no husband, and no reason to live anymore. That was why she killed all the hunters. She no longer felt, she was in so much grief and pain. Sasa was lost and only wanted to find the remains of Fenris and her child. The child was no longer in the compound, but Fenris was. That was why she just laid on him and cried, why she didn't fight when the man in white shot her. She wanted to die.
Everything else of Sasa, Leo should already know. However, what he didn't was what happened next to Fenris. He hadn't even told Sasa. She still had nightmares and blackouts from her first stay here, Fenris wasn't going to bring it up on purpose. Once he had his stake removed, he found himself in a lavish mansion. Some rich woman had bought him with some fantasy that he would change her, or at the very least become her lover. Fenris laughed at the woman as he drank the blood she offered him in a crystal goblet. His wounds healed, he searched for his wife's presence, but couldn't find it. He asked about his wife. The woman laughed at the thought that Fenris would ever marry, but if he wanted a wife, she could oblige.
Fenris got all the information he could out of the woman before he drained her dry. It felt good and he wasn't ashamed to admit it. After that he had to travel home with his tail between his legs. Dagrim had never sired Sasa, so he knew she was in danger from the call he had made while they were prisoner, but he had no way to track them. Half way home Fenris ran into the Ancient, the wolf, and his child, Ryuji. Fenris forgot Ryuji or Bernard could track him, they had the bond of sire and child. Fenris expected the Ancient and wolf, to be more upset, but they were understanding that it was to the fault of hunters. Their understanding made Fenris angrier and moodier. It was his fault; he was supposed to protect her. He was supposed to protect the child.
They found it a few months later, dead. Why the hunters had kept the corpse of the child to where it looked twisted and deformed was beyond Fenris's understanding. All the humans died that night as two livid grandfathers and a devastated father took revenge for the child's death. They stopped back home to lay the child to rest. This way when they found Sasa, if she didn't kill Fenris for failing first, he could bring her here to share the grave with her. He left it unmarked because the name had been so important to Sasa.
She had wanted to name him Lucien, or Leif, or even Adrian. When he brought Sasa home, they could name him and carve it into his marker. When Fenris had brought her home over a decade later, she named him Blaise. She had liked that name too, but because it meant lame she decided against it. Now, however, she felt it was fine to name him Blaise because she didn't need to worry of it becoming a curse to him. Sasa tried to pretend she wasn't affected by the loss of her child, but she hadn't been quite the same since. Sasa never mentioned it to Fenris, and he's never approached her on it, but he knew from that night she has never allowed herself to become pregnant again. She knows how to control her blood too well and never lets things have the conditions they need to succeed.
The sun was finally starting to set by the time Fenris finished his tale.
“That's a sad story, and a lot for one person to go through in such a short time, but how does that explain who she thinks I am?” Leo asked confused.
