Chapter 24 Missing jewelry
CHAPTER 24.
\-LILITH-
Standing in front of Alpha Damian's room, I waited patiently for his deep voice to usher me in.
I have been knocking for over thirty minutes and there hasn't been any response.
I wonder what is keeping him. Is he still asleep? But he's usually up early.
“Alpha, I'm here to clean your room.. Can I come in?” I said for the hundredth time.
Still no response from him.
“Lilith?” I turned sharply upon hearing Beta Lucien's voice.
“Beta Lucien?..”
“Why are you standing here?” He asked.
“I'm here to clean, but it seems Aloha Damian is still asleep”
He chuckled.
“Alpha Damian isn't in his room. He went to Shadowmoon pack with Princess Rivera”
The hairs on my body stood. Many thoughts began to reel in my head.
Has he gone to officially be engaged to her? has he chosen her?.
“Is he getting engaged to Princess Rivera?
The question rolled out of my lips before I could stop myself.
“I wouldn't know.. You should return back to your quarters, Lilith and resume cleaning when he's back”
“Yes..” I took a step and he caught my arm.
“Are you worried, Lilith?.. Does Alpha Damian's personal life bother you so much?”
“What? No.. I'm just a bit curious, that's all”
I responded, wriggling my arm from his grip.
“I'll leave now” I said to him. He smiled while I walked away.
I didn't return back to the quarters. I found a quiet spot and sat down, letting my thoughts overwhelm me.
Alpha Damian left with Princess Rivera? They will probably return in a few days as a married couple.
I sighed softly.. Lena sighed audibly.
“We're so unlucky, don't you think?” She whined.
“You can say that again, Lena. But you know this is all your fault”
“What? How is it my fault?”
“You couldn't get your flirtatious acts together. You gave in so easily. First, you led me to spending the night with him. And second, you willingly agreed to spending the night with him when he asked..” I rained accusations on her.
“Right.. Find someone to blame. you talk as if you didn't enjoy every bit of it”
I cleared my throat noisily.
“I didn't enjoy it..”
She let out a sarcastic laugh.
“Oh.. yes you did. You enjoyed his soft lips on yours. how his hands brushed against your skins and it felt like magic.. You literally loved everything about him, Lilith.. think about it. That night was magical, don't you agree?”
For a split second, her words made me reflect about that night again. The soft glow from the dim light.. His muscles and everything else that makes him manly.
“There you go. Now you're drooling and it isn't my fault. You see, you are also affected by him”
“Stop it, Lena” I scolded and I could sense she must be sticking out her tongue at me.
“Excuse me..” I looked up and found a girl dressed as a maid.
I don't really recognize her.. Perhaps, I haven't been seeing her around.
“Yes?”
“Do you mind doing me a favor? I have to clean the Queen's room but I have a burn on my hands and it will be hard for me to do it. Do you mind doing it for me? I promise, I'll repay the favor. And the Queen went for a walk actually”
She showed me the burn on her hands.
“Sure.. I'll do it” I took the cleaning materials from her.
“Thank you so much Lilith. I promise, I'll repay the favor”
“You don't have to..” I tapped her shoulders gently and walked away, heading for the Queen's room.
I know I'm meant to serve just Alpha Damian because that's his order, but I can't neglect a colleague who needs my help.
The path to the Queen's room was awfully quiet but I didn't think anything was wrong. I went into her room and did what I was supposed to do.
Clean up.
But, I'll have to say that the Queen's room is exceptionally beautiful. Adorned with gold of high quality.
I could see a little bit of her jewelry from a drawer which was slightly open.
It's beautiful and I couldn't help but admire it.
I couldn't resist the urge, so I took out a piece of her jewelry to have a closer look.
But before I could admire it as much as I could, Nerida barged in.
I flinched backwards, immediately placing the jewelry down and grabbing my cleaning materials.
Nerida gave me a suspicious look. Her eyes squinted as she scanned the entire room.
“Why are you here?”
“Uhm.. I was just helping a maid to clean”.
“You aren't supposed to be here. Scram!!”
I didn't think twice or argue.. I simply rushed out of the room.
Somehow, I don't feel comfortable with the fact that Nerida barged in that way.
I don't know why, but I feel like I saw her smirk upon seeing me with the Queen's jewelry.
However, I waved it aside because I could probably be imagining things.
Getting back to the maids quarters, I laid down to rest, letting my mind wander off to so many things and nothing in particular.
I remained that way until I dozed off.
I didn't know how long I slept but I was awakened suddenly by a noise from outside.
“Lilith!.. Lilith!!”
I jerked up when I heard Becky's name calling out to me. I panicked when I heard her voice.
“What is it, Becky?”
“There is Chaos, Lilith. The Queen's jewelry is missing. Nerida accuses you of stealing it..”
She said in a rush.. I couldn't even understand everything she just said. The only thing I could grasp is that the Queen's jewelry is missing and Nerida is accusing me of stealing.
Still, it doesn't make any sense at all.
“What?..”
“The queen, the guards, Nerida and everyone are heading this way and…”
Before she could complete her statement, the door pushed open and the royal guards barged in with the Queen, Nerida and a few other maids.
Becky and I crouched up to our knees. Although, I have no idea why I'm kneeling down and panicking.
“Where is that ungrateful bitch?” The queen asked, looking between Becky and I.
Nerida's fingers were pointed directly at me.
“There she is. She's the ungrateful bitch I found sneaking around in your room, My queen”
What? Sneaking around? I wasn't sneaking around? I was cleaning… And Ungrateful bitch?
What did I do to deserve such a name?
“What are you waiting for, seize her” The queen ordered her guards.
They marched towards me and grabbed my arms forcefully, pulling me up like a criminal.
Before I knew what was happening, I felt a tight, ear deafening slap on my cheeks from Alpha Damian's mother.
“You ungrateful lowlife slave!” The queen thundered.
