Chapter 16 Don't play tricks, Nerida
CHAPTER 16.

I have already been briefed by Beta Lucien about what I need to do being the personal maid for Alpha Damian.
Serve him his meals, clean up his room and literally go everywhere with him just in case he needs my services.
That sounds really absurd because why would I go everywhere with him when it's the job of his guards.
But, I have no right to change that. I just have to do my job.
Looking at it in a different light, I guess it's a good one because I have to serve just him and take orders from him.
That being said, Nerida has no rights to order me around anymore, hit or do anything to me.
I guess I've been saved from that and I told Becky to avoid Nerida like a plague so she wouldn't get into trouble.
As I headed up the stairs with my cleaning materials, talk of the Devil - Nerida, she suddenly showed up in front of her with her minions.
Not having the strength for any of her morning blabberings, I made to walk past her but her minions stood in my way.
“Nerida, can you ask your girls to step out of my way?” I asked as politely as I could.. Of course, I don't want any trouble since it's my first official day as the Alpha's personal maid.
“You now call me by my name? I see you've grown wings, uh?”
“If it isn't your name, then what else should I call you?” I asked back.
I might look timid, naive and hopeless but once I see who my enemies are, I don't back down.
I have a thing with words.. You can say it's a sharp mouth… But yeah! Sometimes, I don't give a damn about what I say.
“I see you now have a sharp mouth now that Alpha Damian picked you to become his personal maid. That has given you the leverage to talk to me the way you want without any fear, uh?”
“I didn't ask to be picked, Nerida.. With or without being the Alpha's maid, I would still do what I'm doing right now. However, if you wanted to be his personal maid so badly, why don't you go to the Alpha himself and speak to him…”
I paused, moved closer and whispered to her.
“That is if you have the guts to..”
Her face was green with anger and envy.
“You little brat”
She raised her hands to hit me but I caught it mid way.
I'd expected it to happen.
That's all they are capable of doing just because they're superior to others. Rain slaps like it didn't even hurt the victims.
But, I won't let that happen to me anymore. Besides, she should be grateful to me for stopping her from going against Alpha Damian's orders because she just violated one.
“I'll let this slide, Nerida…Oh! And don't you think you can play your little tricks on me. Like tampering with Alpha Damian's meals or stepping on my way and making me trip. If you don't want to get on Alpha Damian's bad side, then stay out of my way…”
She snatched her hand from my grip, glaring daggers at me.
I took a step.. but her minions still stood on my path.
One after the other, I passed them a warning look and as if they caught on my warning, they moved aside while I walked past them, glad that I put them in their place.
I made my way to Alpha Damian's room… I placed a knock, and got no response.
Twice,... Still no response.
Then, I grabbed the door knob and went in. At first, I was nervous but after making sure there was no one in, I felt at ease.
I took some time to briefly look around his well furnished room, packed with lots and lots of expensive things.
While cleaning, I was careful enough not to break a single thing.
His room smelled of luxury.. More luxury than I ever imagined or I have ever seen in my entire life.
But, I tried to focus on my job in his room and not get carried away by admiration.
Once I was done, I headed out. As soon as I pulled the door open, Alpha Damian stood right there.
I was startled a bit but quickly lowered my head and gave him some space to step in.
“Good morning, Alpha”
“Hm..”
He responded, moving into his room completely and looking around the entire place.
“Would you like to have your breakfast now?” I asked.
“No… A guest will be arriving soon. We'll have dinner together”
“Yes, Alpha..I'll take my leave now”
I left when there was nothing else to do.
But, the way he spoke without looking at me kinda bothered me a little.
He usually stares at me.. talks to me in a tone that leaves me weak in the knees. But, it's a bit different today.
He speaks so formally that I couldn't help but think that he's still upset about what I said to him the previous day.
“Lilith!..”
Beta Lucien's loud voice pulled me back to reality.
I flinched at his sudden approach.
“Did I startle you?”
He asked, walking majestically towards me.
“Yes.. I kinda had a lot I was thinking”
He smiled.
“How's the first day serving the Alpha as his personal maid?”
“Not really bad..”
“You don't have to worry because I'm sure Alpha Damian won't have your head”
I didn't know if that was a reassurance, a complement or whatever.
I simply smiled.
“I'll see you later, Lilith”
With a wave, he walked away while I proceeded back to the slave quarters to get some rest.
