Forty Eight
Chapter Forty Eight
“This is going to be quite a visit Jenny.” Amanda looked away from the female inmate prison and faced Jennifer looking very worried.
“Are you sure you will be okay going in alone?”
“I should be. What could she possibly do? At worst she makes me cry through whatever story she wants to tell me.” Jennifer shrugged and smiled at her friend afterwards.
“Okay. But I will be out here to help if anything goes wrong.”
“You really shouldn’t have come.”
“Are you kidding me right now? Did you notice how secluded the road was on our way here? Crazy things happen on roads like that. So, I am here to protect you. Thankfully I wore my boots. See?” Amanda tilted her legs up and Jennifer smiled, nodding.
“This boot is freaking hard, so whatever kick I would be giving any bastard that wants to try shit will be hard.”
Jenifer chuckled. “Well, thank you so much my protector. What would I do without you?”
“A lot actually, you are that strong. Okay, enough talk, you need to go in. Don’t let the arrogant Hannah sway you okay?” Jennifer nodded, opening the car door.
“Take care.”
Jennifer smiled to herself as she got off the car. She took a deep breath and stared at the yard through the barbed fence. It was constructed similar to the males just that it was a bit noisy. Jennifer reasoned that since they were at a very secluded place, they could make a lot more noise without disturbing anyone. Well maybe their wardens.
‘This place smells deadly already.’ Jennifer thought as her legs finally found their way into the compound. For some reason, she had been very reluctant to go visit Hannah that she stalled until a week later. Amanda was the reason she was finally visiting her. Amanda had pulled her out of the abundant office duties she had put on herself.
According to Amanda, she was just trying to find an excuse to successfully ignore Hannah’s request.
‘You are just low-key scared of what she would be telling you, but you have to hear it anyway to have all your questions answered.’ Amanda had said.
Jennifer took another deep breath, releasing it slowly to put her mind at ease. She walked towards the building just in front of her sight which had the reception indication by its side. She entered, bumping into a busty woman who sneered at her before leaving the room. Jennifer shrugged to herself as she concluded the woman to be silly. She walked to the receptionist and told her why she was there.
“Oh Ms Lewis, we have been expecting you.” The petite lady smiled looking a bit relieved.
“We?”
“Yes, the entire office. Ms Solver has been causing quite a ruckus here because you failed to show up.”
Jennifer did a ‘oh’ with her mouth. “I am sorry about that.”
“It is fine. What is important right now is that you are finally here Please follow me to the visitation room.” Jennifer followed her out of the reception glad to be back outside as the office was a bit hot.
“We will finally have some peace here. Ms Solver has found ways over the week to torture the whole place. Just yesterday, she hit a guard’s head against the iron bar because she refused to get her water. It was crazy.” The lady talked on as they entered another building whose first room was empty but led to a corridor.
“I hope the guard is fine.” Jennifer would feel entirely terrible if something very terrible happened to the guard since it was because of her refusal to show that caused Hannah’s attitude.
“She is fine. Luckily the hit was not that much.” They walked further down the long corridor.
“Hannah does sound pretty wild.”
“Don’t worry ma’am we will ensure to have guards by the door in case anything crazy happens. Well here we are.” She opened the door.
“We have provided an empty room for the two of you to have your conversation. I will let the warden know you are here, please go in and make yourself comfortable. Do you need anything to drink?”
“No, thank you.” Jennifer smiled and entered the room. The receptionist left, Jennifer immediately breathing out in relief. The little amount of talking she was doing was beginning to tire Jennifer who wanted out of the place as soon as possible.
Jennifer took out her phone, checked the time then sat down, making sure to face the door so she would see Hannah coming in.
After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, a guard finally showed up and told her Hannah was at the door. Jennifer’s eyes became alert and stared eagerly at the entrance. As the familiar orange colour came to sight, Jennifer’s system jumped.
“Hello sister.” Jennifer’s eyes traced her body from her feet to her face which was all smiles to Jennifer’s discomfort.
“Step sister.” Jennifer corrected, the air feeling more tense as Hannah narrowed her eyes at her, a smile still playing on her lips as she sat down. The guards that were behind her left to stand outside.
“Our father’s blood runs through both our veins, don't you think it would be more appropriate to call me sister. Big sister perhaps?” She smirked, sitting back.
“I expected you to come earlier than this though…”
“Why did you ask to see me?” Jennifer sat back too, her arms folded.
“To explain things? I am pretty sure you still don’t believe I am your father’s daughter, so I want to tell you the story of how I came to be so you will finally accept that I am the one actually entitled to the company.”
“Just talk.” Jennifer demanded, turning on the sound recorder of her phone as discussed with Detective Sanders the day before.
“Alright, alright. Your… our dad, shortly before he got married to your mom, had a short sort of unexpected fling with his childhood friend which led to her getting pregnant with me, this beautiful creature.” Jennifer scoffed inwardly.
“Daddy couldn’t bear to hurt your mom because he loved her, so he gave my mom a lot of cash to go somewhere far to start afresh with me. My mom and I lived together for seventeen years with no mention of who my father was. On my eighteenth birthday, I got strangely more curious about who exactly my father was that I had to force the information out of my mom’s mouth. With the name of my father in my head, I started to dig around for information, more and more information. When I found out he owned a huge company, I became determined to meet my father in whatever way so that he would remember he had a child somewhere who was also entitled to be part of the company.
Honestly, meeting him was not easy as I thought it would be. So after few years of trying, I had to change my name, I basically erased my previous existence and moved here to Bahama five years ago. Fortunately for me, the very day I arrived, you guys put up a vacancy notice for a domestic help, it was then I was able to work out a plan . All I had to do to secure the plan was become a very trusted staff. After that had happened, I involved Francis in the plan by drugging him and then having sex with him, planting it in his head that he was the one that came onto me.
Poor Francis, he fell for it, besides he was scared that you would leave him if I told you, so he followed all my instructions from that moment. Besides he had a bit of greed , so it actually made things a loy easier. With your fiancé on my side, I was ready. I started my plan by gradually changing your father’s prescriptions to slightly… deadly ones.”
Jennifer jumped up from shock of what she just heard Hannah say. “You… did what?”
“I changed his prescriptions a bit.” Hannah shrugged in an unbothered manner it made Jennifer’s blood begin to boil.
“And how exactly did you do that?” Jennifer slammed the table that separated them.
Hannah smiled. “Oh, I forgot to add your aunt Sarah was also on my side and since she was the doctor prescribing your dad drugs, it made things easier, she just changed his drugs a bit.”
Jennifer grabbed the edge of the table firmly, her head swirling hard. She found herself sitting down back, unable to say anything for a while as she processed the information. To think that her dad died because of some person. “Didn’t you say he was your father? Why would you kill your father?”
“Honestly, I did not plan to kill him, it was you I planned to kill. But when I thought about it, his death was better for me even though not getting to call him father sucked. But at least I got rid of the obstacle that would have been in my way if I had killed you successfully. See, the thing was supposed to work out in this manner; After you had died, I would reveal myself as his lost daughter and he would give the company to me and we would have lived happily forever.” She frowned for a second.
“But that plan was meant to flop because alive daddy would have refused to give the whole company to me because he would have felt I wasn’t worthy or something. So, dead daddy made things easier.” She smiled at the end of the statement.
“What on earth is your problem?” Jennifer shouted, glaring at Hannah as the smile on her face was just so annoying. “You killed my father you bastard! You destroyed my life! Because of what? A couple of buildings? You are not even entitled to that company at all.
“I am entitled in every way to that company!” Hannah responded shouting, getting up abruptly, leaning her cuffed hands on the table .
“I am your father’s first child and by law, I am the successor.”
Jennifer got up too, grabbing her phone. “By law? We are not in the freaking sixteenth century dude! Things work using a will. A freaking will! And the last time I checked, it did not mention any other daughter being entitled to the company and it never will because my father never recognized you as his daughter.”
“You stop talking right now.” Hannah growled.
“No. I will continue. Fine, you got the company for a while after you supposedly had me killed and how did that turn out? You almost ruined the company within two months.”
“My company!”
“No! My company! It has never been yours and it will never be yours. For killing my father, it will never be yours.” Jennifer said with a low yet threatening voice. The two of them maintain eye contacts full of anger for a while, their heavy breaths ridding the room of silence.
“Aargh!” Hannah threw the table away in anger despite the cuffs on her hands, glaring hard at Jennifer.
The guards outside immediately rushed in and grabbed Hannah who was already walking towards Jennifer. Hannah fought their hold, trying to find a way to attack Jennifer.
“Leave me alone! I want to kill her! That company is mine! I have worked too hard to lose it now! Motherfuckers let me go!”
Jennifer watched feeling a bit scared, as Hannah became instantly transformed to some kind of human monster. She watched as one of the guards brought out a taser and attacked her back with it severally until she passed out. They dragged her out of the room leaving Jennifer who just kept staring at the spot they had just left.
But she soon came to her senses. Looking around for nothing in particular, she grabbed a chair, sat down and covered her face with her palms. And she cried.
She cried about everything.
